What I don't understand is this;
Prior to this RAM-Gate, Everyone was like, uhh 970 is the best card and performs better than 780.
After discovering that the 0.5GB RAM is not the same fast RAM, Uhhh now my 970 sucks and I need refund badly. NVIDIA penipu scammer
My question is that, has the performance of the GTX 970 changed after knowing the issue? If not, then why everyone cried for a refund? Or just people wanted to take this advantage to get a free upgrade to GTX 980 instead?

QUOTE(rav3n82 @ Jan 28 2015, 10:40 PM) If they would have come clean in the first place, I am sure all of us would not even have an issue to begin with. From my personal point of view; small issue made big. And biasalah, people sometimes still carry this mob mentality with them. Don't fully understand the issue, just jump in and join the bandwagon. Awhile ago all everyone so happily praising the 970, suddenly with this RAM-gate fiasco, all cry foul. You can see for yourself, some of those that complain in our forum are those that read from forums/websites and don't even have this dreaded 970 to begin with. I for one hardly have any issue with this 970 playing on 1080p. Most (if not all) of my games are optimized by Geforce Experience. Even with a fully enabled fast memory buffer of 4GB on the 970, I doubt it would have made much of an impact on higher resolutions (particularly 4K). To churn out such amount of pixels would require significant GPU processing power, not just memory buffer alone. Suddenly, all wanna jump ship and go for 290X with humongous 8GB VRAM, as if that would really made much of a difference. I thought we already established long ago that having more GPU RAM does not really improve performance when the GPU itself isn't fast enough. I would agree if everyone is double or triple SLI their GTX 970 to run 4K (because the RAM is still limited to single card RAM) then it is an issue. I guess people just take opportunity (like every fanboys) just to jump the gun and take the shoot for trolololol. I still remember I first got conned by a salesman in Low Yat saying that my ATI X300 with 256MB HyperMemory is a powerful card. Only later I learned that X300 is entry card (not even mid range)... all the additional RAM went unused. This post has been edited by yaphong: Jan 29 2015, 12:00 AM

QUOTE(vivre @ Feb 2 2015, 10:19 PM) Thanks guys! Will wait then... It depends. I upgraded from GTX 670 to GTX 980 and I noticed the performance jump. I think it is about double of what GTX 670 did. Partly also because my monitor display at 1440p thus I needed the improvement (GTX 670 did struggle on more graphic intensive games at 1440p). Now I can do 60 fps at high settings at 1440p.

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Feb 3 2015, 10:43 PM) Money is subjective bro. When a 970 can be gotten for RM1.3k new and the cheapest 980 is RM1.9k, that's RM600 worth of difference. 7-10 extra frames isn't worth RM600 IMHO.The 980 will also have better frametimes at over 3.5GB VRAM usage, but again... it's not RM600 better. I think using FPS is not really a good comparison. Game A may give you 7 fps improvement, while Game B may give you 15 fps improvement. In short, GTX 980 is about 12% (on average) faster than GTX 970. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Anyway, sometimes 7 to 10 extra frames could be crucial. If GTX 970 gives 20+ FPS and then GTX 980 with 30+ FPS, then GTX 980 can be look attractive... This post has been edited by yaphong: Feb 4 2015, 03:18 PM

QUOTE(vivre @ Feb 4 2015, 02:32 PM) Phew! 980 is different league bro.. If I have the moolah, definitely will go for 980! right now limited to options of 970.. I wanted GTX 970 too, but it was mostly out of stock or people jacked up the price from MSRP RM1388 to RM1499 (ASUS STRIX 970). I got mine ASUS STRIX 980 for RM2150 (inclusive of credit card charges) instead of RM2299 which is the normal price people selling... (I can't find MSRP for this though).

QUOTE(SSJBen @ Feb 4 2015, 06:02 PM) 7-10 frames is 12% average performance difference, as you can confirm with TPU's chart (or any other chart really). Frametimes > average frames. Having 200 frames in a game means nothing when there are micro stutters that brings it down to more than half of the average frames. If the 980 is sold at the 780's price prior to launch (RM1.6k-1.8k), then it would have been a really good deal. Having 200 frames is a good thing, this means your card can perform more than it should. I would normally either use DSR to further increase the graphic fidelity or just V-sync it to save power (my whole system consumes 250W when I play DotA 2). However at 1440p, GTX 980 is just nice for 60 FPS with all the settings turned to max. As other former pointed out before, I didn't recall 780 is launched at RM1.8k, I think it was 680. QUOTE(ngkhanmein @ Feb 4 2015, 05:34 PM) if they accepted, pls kindly inform me. Are you gonna top up to join GTX 980 if they accept refund? QUOTE(SSJBen @ Feb 4 2015, 11:16 PM) No, 780 launched at RM2k+ as well. But the 780 was much faster than the 770, where the 980 vs 970 delta is closer. Of course I'm being cheap and wished the 980 just took over the 780's price point when it launched. Yeah but 980 is already cheaper (at launch) than 780Ti (which is also slower). So I think it makes sense for NVIDIA to price it that way, although as the consumer we wished 980 is priced at 970 price and 970 is priced at 960 price lol.

QUOTE(kingform @ Feb 5 2015, 12:49 AM) anybody knows if it is possible to use 4K resolution with DSR on a 24" TV with a resolution of 1360x768? if thats possible i might just use my grandma's TV instead of a new monitor. i'm using a single GTX 970 now Yeah I think it is possible. I even tried 5K (5120x2880) DSR on my 1440p monitor and it works.

QUOTE(PsychoHDxMachine @ Jun 1 2015, 10:31 AM) Yea.. Have to spend at least 1/2 yrs or more. Then straight go for 4k !! To go 4k we need at least double processing power of GTX 980Ti. GTX 980Ti is actually good enough for 21:9 @ 1440p.... GTX 980 is struggling to get 60 fps in some modern games, especially with NVidia Gamework's tech turned on.

QUOTE(cstkl1 @ Jun 1 2015, 12:09 PM) again depends what ure gaming at Reality Check Truth to be told 980ti/Titan X Sli Maxed out gaming. @1080p Min 100fps @1440p min 60fps @4k min 30fps 980 is like the in-between card. Titan X now kindda pointless. New games are actually managing VRAM much better 5gb is the sweet spot Yeah, but that's SLI right? Single card can do 30 fps at 4k?
