QUOTE(ykit_88 @ Jul 25 2016, 02:30 PM) Hi Nacht. Nice thread here! I salute your effort to spread the knowledge on Chinese folklore practices. Hi ykit, thank you for stopping by. Feel free to stay and chit-chat on the subject. I got one question. I've seen in temples they worship 太子爷 of different ages on the same altar table, i.e. Age 3 (San Sui), Age 5 (Wu Sui) etc. etc. Why there are so many different ages? Are they same or different? Each of these Na Zhas represents a different chronological snapshot of Na Zha, a different aspect or facet of him, each with different abilities and personality traits. These aspects are all part of a whole, of course, but can manifest independently. It's being able to time travel and gather several different chronological specimens of a certain individual - e.g. 3 year old ykit, 18 year old ykit and 40 year old ykit - to assist you with different tasks befitting each specimen's ability scope. Certain sintuas/mediums may only be able to conjure/summon/invite/channel/host Na Zha aspects of certain ability levels and ages. |

Hello Nacht,
There is a deity celebration today (6th lunar month 24th day) for "Ngo Lui Sian Soo" at a local shrine. As I understand, "Ngo" is translated as 5, are the celebrations for Five Camp Commanders? Or it is referring to other deities? |

Perhaps Lei Gong could be among the 5 deities as there is a statute with garuda features. The name is not familiar to me, but suggests that he is a thunder deity of some description. |

Recently one of peer passed away. Was wondering what's the ritual process, deity roles whom are involved in the ritual, and the 7 7 49 days thing?

QUOTE(dp82 @ Aug 1 2016, 02:42 PM) Recently one of peer passed away. Was wondering what's the ritual process, deity roles whom are involved in the ritual, and the 7 7 49 days thing? The deity involved in the funeral proper would be the Filial Son, whom I have spoken about earlier in the thread. He is the Hell being in charge of mourning and funeral rites, tasked with ensuring that the deceased is properly and respectfully laid to rest.![]() The deities tasked with collecting the soul of the deceased are, of course, Tua Li Ya Pek, the Black and White Brothers, whom you should know pretty well by now, given how often I talk about them. ![]() After Tua Li Ya Pek collect the deceased, he/she is brought to the court of the City God of the area; he is the local spiritual magistrate. There, charges will be leveled against the deceased, who is then allowed to plead guilty or not guilty. Depending on how serious the charges are, the deceased will either be remanded, or allowed a period of up to 49 days to remain on earth (supervised) and make their final goodbyes/put their affairs in order before leaving for Hell proper and facing their actual trial by the Hell Judges. ![]() |

QUOTE(iamoracle @ Aug 3 2016, 07:52 AM) Nacht sifu, can you share with us the different categories/types of hungry ghost? They're segregated by the sins they committed when they were still human. That's the only categorization there is for them. How to protect ourselves from being disturbed by hungry ghost during the 7th month? Thanks. Put your trust in the Hell deities to keep the peace, do nothing to piss the ghosts off and stay clear of places where they may congregate. |
