Hi Guys,

I'm looking to get some exposure to China A-Share market. Any fund that you guys recommend?

I'm looking at Affin Hwang China Growth Fund, I know it's a wholesale fund. Right now it seems that only Philip Mutual is willing to take in my investment with 5.5% SC.

Another one I'm looking at is AmChina A-Share but this one looks like roller coaster. Haha.

Some recommended CIMB Principal Greater China Equity. But I think this one has too much exposure to Taiwan and Hong Kong. Which is not my goal.

What do you guys think?

Chasing over China again?

China stocks top performers in 2014, oil plunges, dollar sees best gain in nine years

SYDNEY (Reuters) - Chinese stocks were celebrating their best year in five on Wednesday while markets elsewhere in Asia were ending 2014 on a cautionary note as worries about Greece's future in the euro zone served as an excuse to take profits on crowded trades.

The stand-out global equity performer was China, where the CSI300 index of the largest listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen looked set to end 2014 with gains of nearly 50 percent, the biggest among the world's major markets.

I fully understand China just had the biggest bull run in the past 6 months. But I think there're still money to be made especially in the consumption front. And I view the tightening in lending policy positively for more quality growth.

The reason why I choose Affin Hwang China Growth Fund over RHB-OSK BIG CAP CHINA ENTERPRISE FUND is because China growth has more balance portfolio of consumer, services, healthcare and industry. Whereas Big Bap China is financial and O&G heavy.

What do you think?

it is in the fund factsheets in the FSM website.

just a note:...some have fine prints in their prospectus/product highlight sheet.....(something like this)
"asset allocation is only indicative and will be reviewed from time to time depending on the judgment of the External Investment
Manager as to the general market and economic conditions. Although the Fund is actively managed, how active or the frequency of its
trading strategy will very much depend on market opportunities."

there fore they are not fixed and some have limits to a certain % for each sector.

Going back a year or thereabouts, FSM was promoting China funds on the basis of low P/E ratios, IIRC.

I recall making a comment that China Funds are volatile and basically a hit-and-miss proposition.

On the basis of making a call which turned out good, kudos to FSM. On the basis of the 5-year performance for, say, RHB-OSK Big Cap China, the return is a grand total of 2.9552% pa. Overall, what that means, you decide. smile.gif

There is some pros and cons of investing in REIT fund vs REITs

A good REIT manager can do more in-depth research and study than us.

But, a REIT fund manager may sell off REITs that show paper loss on his portfolio with good and stable yield to make his annual/interim report look nice (window dressing whistling.gif ).

If u invest in REITs yourself thru Bursa, u may choose to keep those REITs; eventually the dividends will cover the paper/price loss if u keep them long enough.

Well, this point is also valid for other dividend-yielding stocks.

If u have time and diligence to do some research and study yourself, IMHO it's better and more rewarding to invest in REITs and dividend stocks yourself than to buy a REIT/Dividend UT fund.

Like I've said before, if u hold long enough, the dividends will be more than enough to cover for your capital losses.

But then, u still have to pick good REITs, some "bad" REITs suffer capital losses that dividends can barely cover...see ARREIT and AMFIRST...see their 5-year chart. sweat.gif

hmm.gif not sure if this is the correct one...that you wanted.
it did talked a lot (mostly) about crude oil, in its "Manager comments" in the fund factsheet.
check it out if you are interested......too wordy for me.
