Woot.. just went browsing to few book stalls.. and to my amazement.. the free 'naked' figure that comes free with the NOV issue DHM is MISSING!!!! 2-3 shops i went all were missing! also checked out Popular Bookstore.. they also got the figure MISSING!! and what grinds my bones is that the price... wait for it... is RM18!!!!!!??????????? without any freebees! WTFH??

Usually when there is a "freebie" (it's not really free...) I shake the box around to see if there is anything inside the box or not? If there's no rattling sound, I'm not going to pay extra for the "freebie"...

refering to tamiya website, they did mention polycarbonate spray can not suitable for plastic kit, only intend for R\C body kit.

regarding the silver effect, i think the pictures tell u wut to do already. Just gloss black then silver.

for using spray can technique, tamiya website got a short n useful video tutorial.

my own prefernce is to go with a mix. the black can be either sprayed or painted on, as long as its even lar. Then dry brush gun metal, then a mix of gun metal + silver, then finally silver.

That's the approach that I did for that Armored Core mecha that I posted. Just that i didnt use much silver as I had wanted the dark look to it.

here's some closeups, the shin, the thigh, the torso, and the shoulder. I did that not only with the black/silver parts, but also to the dark blue areas.

First thing first, u need a airbrush if u wanna follow the guide in the magazine. Hand paint absolutely will be a waste of time.

Btw, the super-metalic he using is super expensive...around 600yen. Maybe Hobby HQ got carry this item.

If dun have airbrush, just get a normal silver spray can will do.

And for small area, maybe u can get Gunze Plate Silver marker pen, just squeeze it out then paint it with brush. But b4 u buy better test the marker b4 buying, coz old stock, the color will become dull...no shinny. I kena b4...

Oh, thanks for the information. biggrin.gif
& btw, why does a marker pen need to squeeze ?
i think, i'll just get a tamiya silver spray.
But i only found the TS-17 Aluminum Silver, & TS-30 Silver Leaf, but the color code that state on website is kinda grey. doh.gif

coz squeeze out n paint with brush more easy to control. u dun wan to overflood u kit, rite? especially on small detail parts.

I think alumninium silver is good enough.

just spray a gloss black as base coat for maximum result. flex.gif

Tamiya got 2 type of bottle paint, enamel and arcylic. Only the enamel paint cannot mix with any Gunze thinner, that one is square bottle one. Which is rare on malayisa market.

Oic..thanks, that's a big help

anyway, one last question about the FLAT top coat, i can apply it on piece by piece rite, i mean i'm going to do panel lining when i detached the piece out, & then spray the top coat.
But which will save a lots of work & a better result ?

normally applying it piece by piece tends to give the best results, as should you apply it when the model's already assembled, there's bound to be places where you cannot reach.

although applying it piece by piece may get the best result but if certain pieces has been added too many layer or not completely cover u may end having parts with different color on ur kit when u assemble it all together!!!

Well, that's why when painting, 2 most important things to remember smile.gif
- make sure to apply very thin coats. That allows u to have multiple layers and still allows the pieces to fit
- always ensure that you mixes are consistant. it may help if you are to premix a substantial amount in an empty bottle to be used for the entire model.
