I'm working with one of the big 4.. IMO, u better decide what u interested to do... either tax or audit (based on ur question).. no point working in audit for more than a year and then u decide to go tax.. it a whole different thing i would say..

let say u have worked for more than 3 years in audit .. if you meet the requirements.. u will be a senior associate 1 by then and earning 4k plus.. then u decide to join tax... by that time.. tax people cannot take you as an associate nor SA1.. due to your high time cost and lack of experience in tax...

so decide now... just my 2 cents

thanks for ur advice.. i still have some queries.. all the while i ve been told that audit is a good place to start in learning alot of basic things before transferring to other lines.. so i was thinking maybe i should stay in audit for a few yrs 1st before transferring to tax dept.. but seems like this is not a good choice?

if u are fresh graduate and applying for audit..u should apply for audit assistant..or also known as audit associate  wink.gif  from what i understand, senior are those with at least 2 years of audit experience ...hope it helps  biggrin.gif  ..the hierarchy is such that assistant (being the lowest rank) < seniors < manager < partners

and for the pay range...way back in april, the HR personnel (from KPMG) told me the pay is about RM2240....but big 4 has revised the pay ......and IF im not mistaken they are offering 2.3k-2.5k...  can anyone confirm with this?

Up to you then... i've given my opinion.. it is better for you to consult HR or Tax people coz i'm in audit... i do not know about tax department expectation...

If I am not mistaken, it should be around 2-3 weeks time. They will call you for an interview if you are short-listed and after the interview they will call/send you a letter to inform you whether pass or fail. Good luck!

I myself just went through the interview and assessment for PWC Malaysia (in Australia), gosh it was a rather eye-opener. I'll be knowing my status in a couple of weeks, as the partner went back and the recruitment staff needed to consult one. Most of my friends got theirs as they went for an earlier session where the partner was around to decide.

I went so unprepared. Handed in my resume at 2, and needed to go straight for an interview right after that wearing only casual (with blazer).

Think you should stick to one choice though I do understand that you're probably still uncertain about the path you want your career to take. I suggest you talk to people in tax and audit and find out whether their respective career paths appeal to you or not.

Wednesday, last week. Audit. Can't see myself going for advisory, as most of the positions bar a certain few does not qualified for CA experience... so I decided to just forget it and go for the typical route.

I thought about EY & KPMG, but they would only conduct a phone interview apparently and offer you on the spot (assuming you are still in Melb), or something like that according to my friends. After that first interview, I have this craving for more due to experience greed.

Generally I think it's possible, because most audit firms will ask you when you intend to join, or if they don't you can TELL them. They can't quite dictate when you join, since at the end of the day it's your choice.

I know EY takes in new staff regularly each month, whereas PWC only takes in staff at regular intervals to join their 1st exp programme. (though there are exceptions to this, but you'll find the HR stuff recommending against it)

As for DeloitteKC and KPMG, i don't know, but I think it's similar to EY. You can go to the interview and ask about it. They're quite nice people.
