Yup. The one who left in Dec was CYKIT. You still surviving eh? Most of the A8 fellows are now either on notice or left already. At this rate, we'll probably have enough fingers to count our AMs by end of this year doh.gif

oh ya. i forgotten hehe.. yea, both very hardworking former colleagues..

hmm.. yeap, most A8ers are on notice. Infact, half of us had already left smile.gif

oh , cannot say like that, A3ers also got a few AMs ma. Infact, their headcounts are higher than A8ers now. Hmm... i still surviving? haha, why you so sure i am not a 2010 new joiner? biggrin.gif

I am taking my F papers now, will finish all F papers by this year end. So what should i do next year while taking my P papers ? My college only conducts P classes at night, so i will be free during the day.

1.Can i get an internship ?
2.Work in small/medium sized audit firms ?
3.Apply for Big 4 ?

Need some advice guys, by the way i am in Penang.

Audit firms do accept internship, provided your results are good.

If you intend to take Audit firm as your "spring board", Big4 is a popular choice, but there are trade offs compared to small/mid audit firms.
If you intend to become a Partner of a Audit firm, Big4 again is a popular choice, but not necessary better.

Working in Big4 makes your resume looks good to some extend tongue.gif

Small/medium sized audit firms are usually locally established companies, their clients are often small/medium sized companies. Big4 companies usually audit Fortune 500 companies and many MNCs. So it depends whether you want to audit small accounts or big accounts.

Auditing small accounts has it's benefits too, you get to be exposed to full set of accounts. Where else, in a Big4, the first few years, you're gonna be audting a fixed area, like bank, AR, Inventories, or AP etc... or worse is statutory accounts, or holding company which is idle of activities, nothing much to learn from. On off peak season, if you're too junior, they might even ask you to do lots of photocopying & filing work for Seniors sad.gif Sometimes it depends on your luck which client you're gonna be assigned to, so you gotta be good friends with your manager. tongue.gif

Working in Big4 has it's perks too, you get to be exposed to many clients, so you would have many contacts. You build a good social network of colleagues and useful contacts smile.gif This is hard to find in small/mid sized audit firms.

Nevertheless, if you can't stand finding yourself working until 4-5 am in the morning just to rush an account... audit is not for you biggrin.gif Good Luck in your search for a better career.

Agree on everything except that.
If you work for MNC or conglomerate that rule will not apply.
If you work for a terribly understaffed team with limited resources, that does not apply.
If your senior wants to groomed you so that s(he) can leave, that does not apply
If your client wants extra arrangements, merger, IPO, restructuring,..... that does not apply.

I am still at bloody peak as it is, all broken promises mad.gif

You will be fine, don't worry.. Don't think the managers will expect you to do huge tax computation anyway.
Which firm are you heading to btw?

Unless you are just back from a secondment hmm.gif . The thing is at the beginning, there were more A8 people than A3 people. So that shows the huge change from way back then and how the department's standards has fallen.

No, but if you're the type that has low self confidence and feels demotivated when someone younger than you is a few ranks higher, better not.

no one just got back from secondment except for YEE isnt it? smile.gif haha, i certainly am not Colin. Colin is only coming back midyear as i heard. Infact, i dont think he wants to come back also hahaha..

Yep. When we first merge, there were more of us from A8 than A3. Both headcounts in terms of seniors and assistants. But now, both way has changed drastically.

Well, i wouldnt say the dept's standard has fallen. Its not nice to say it this way seeing there are more A3 ppls now ma. A3 are always more superior than us whistling.gif

Largely depend on yourself. Do you mind being an assistant to a 22 year old senior? if you dont, there is no problem at all as I believe no firms hire newcomer based on whether they are too old or not. The only item which will be in context is whether your prior experience will be "valued" by the hiring firm or not.

Good luck.

Well, a very good director had just return from secondment to PPD, heard he's a nice guy too.

The thing is the fun factor in auditing has disappeared as compared to pre-merge times. People in the dept has become far too individualistic. I heard that during the old times in the old building, A8 people used to have lunch together in a big group and birthdays are celebrated too in the dept. Its like one big family during those days. Turnover rate was one of the lowest among all the depts in KPMG and considered to be the best dept to work in due to its working culture.

Sorry for bringing up the good old times back but this is what I have gathered from my A8 seniors that I had the honour and privilege to work with. In fact, the whole lot were A8 people biggrin.gif. And they were nice seniors too as they don't do things like staying late for the sake of staying and talking a whole lot of crap while working.
