my FC is about 14l/100km , full city drive

my wife drive kids to/from school weekdays. i drive weekend for family shopping. 2012 bold

FC is kinda very high. both of us are not heavy footer but of course, especially weekdays, many traffic lights

any idea if this is too high or normal?
*
I would say its a little bit on the high side , but most probably is due to very short distance drive.
On longer city drives it can get around 11-12L/100KM.

The Exora is not a light vehicle. It weighs almost 1.5 tons, about the same weight as a 2.0L sedan.

The only way is to use another lighter/smaller engine car (if u already have) for fetching the kids to school
(i know it sounds discouraging).
Also try to reduce any long idling. It does affect the average FC. (I experience before leaving the engine running for 15 mins just for air cond cause my daughter is sleeping)

Thats why my Exora is only used during weekends or off-peak hours. On normal "going to work" days or short distance, I use my Wira.

Forgot to ask about the car's fuel consumption too... The Teana can get me from Kelana Kaya to Kemaman (around 320km) on half a tank of gasoline (although a full tank of 65L costs almost $140.00, based on previous oil price of $2.15/liter), which is why I'm wondering how far the Exora can take me. hmm.gif

I know it's a 1.6 but will the turbo engine be one heck of a fuel guzzler? Especially if I'm the type who likes to drive the car steadily most of the time but pick up speed to overtake on the right lane, once in a while? laugh.gif
*
the turbo only guzzles fuel during short distance , low speed city driving and lots of itchy right foot acceleration/

On highway, with a steady foot below 100 (yes I know its tempting) , I managed to achieve around 8.5L/100.

Hmmm, and I'm pretty much a city driver, although I usually take the train to KL (I'm working in PJ, by the way)... Hopefully the gasoline tank of the Exora won't be as pricey as the Teana though, since the former comes with a much smaller engine capacity (1.6 Turbo against a 2.0 sedan)! icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Sorry, but I have to correct you a little bit.
Yes smaller Capacity engine on the roadtax, but due to turbo nature, it powers like a 2.0L (and beyond) and drinks like a 2.0L if the turbo is heavily used. Thats why on highway, it saves more than it drives on city.
Cause during low load/acceleration , it works like a 1.6L. But on heavy load /turbo, it works like a 2.0L.

Think of this metaphor..like a cute kitten which can evolve into a angry fire breathing lion when you ask for it. And then later changes back to a cuddly kitten.
Eats 2000CC for breakfast (sorry no offense to your Teana) when you demand for it

BTW dont worry, the Exora fuel tank is smaller than Teana.

Yesterday late night, was on the way back from Bandar Parklands Klang heading back to Shah Alam on LKSA highway,

Along the way, spotted a VW Scirocco 1.4TSI rclxms.gif

Decided to see how fast this Exora can catch up with the 1.4 TSI.
Single-Turbo vs Twin-charged Turbo. CVT vs DSG. European tech vs German flex.gif flex.gif

I managed to catch up with him when he got block by someone whom decided to "cruise" on a fast lane.
As the guy which blocked him gave way, could hear his DSG switch gears (he had modified sports twin exhaust) as he tried to shake me off, but took him a while for him to pull away from the tailgating Exora. brows.gif

Played with him right up to 170. Still was behind him although 2 car lengths (138BHP vs 158BHP, 1450KG vs 1360KG).

Later 2nd time again he kena block by another car. Again Exora caught up right behind his ass. brows.gif
Again he tried to shake off his tail from the turbocharged MPV.

But I have to admit, 0-100 (aka, after going through Smart-Tag) acceleration, he is definitely faster. But on high speed, Exora still takes some pride home. For a MPV which is 3/4 the price of the new Scirocco and able to carry 7 people (vs 4 adults in a coupe) plus gives a healthy performance, I'm a satisfied owner.

Hi Vivakarna,
Thanks for your suggestion but I prefer to keep it stock (except for the tyres ) .Retain it as sleeper huh brows.gif rclxms.gif

Thanks but no thanks, but if I go beyond even 120 with my parents on board, I will have an earful from my mom.
170 is my definitely limit blush.gif
But surprisingly at 170 it felt really stable and didn't realise that it was at 170 not until I had a quick look at the speedometer.
Good job on the Lotus-tuned suspension.

DT4 is diesel, so only the Rondo 2.0L and Odyssey 2.4L are petrol.

Comparing with the two above, Exora consumes AUD$5~6 more a week on petrol, but spends less overall by AUD$30~50 each week including fuel, obviously due to its low CC. This is something like COO (cost of ownership) and depreciation. If only we have something like this in Malaysia...

Which customizable features among the BCM do you guys use?
These are the ones I use:
- Driver side door lock/unlock. Press remote twice to unlock all doors and rear boot.
- Signal tap feature
- Programmable front wiper interval

*
Another one - Come Home Light.
But if only I can set to shorter duration.
And change the lamp to white light - ala Merc style brows.gif

By the way, I noticed that the turbocharged Exora will make this whirring sound once in a while, when I switch off the engine. This is just like my brother's old Toyota Celica that came with a turbo engine (he sold it off some time back, btw) and why is this so? hmm.gif
*
Yes, the radiator fan will be activated after u switched off the engine, but not always.
This is to cool down the coolant temperature which also cools down the turbo and the engine, cause the turbo is sharing the heat with the radiator.
This is to prevent the turbo from being damaged due to very high temperature after engine is switched off.

And it depends on how hard you drive. The harder you drive, the longer the fan will stay on.

But I noticed after the engine has loosen up (and gone for my 3rd service), it rarely turns on nowadays.
Even when I manually switch to On position and switch off again, still sometimes it doesn't auto turn on. I know its not a fault. Maybe they reprogrammed the auto fan?

But still I make a habit to idle for a while after a hard driving, maybe 30 seconds, to let it cool down, even though the manual doesn't state it needs to.

Hi,
Anyone having issues with their SAT button?
Mine after turning off the SAT mode, it will jump to D then S then D again. Gua takut switch problem, and i think my warranty is over (mine is 2014 batch).
HoweveR it doesnt flicker all the time. Once in a while it jumps between D & S after switching off.

I sometimes switch to SAT mode cause i want to cruise in lower revs - save petrol.

Not easy to drive lower rev with normal mode and above 70km/h. Need very feather foot to tame the turbo beast.
I have a feeling Proton tuned it to be aggressive most of the time. Correc me if i am wrong.

Otherwise touchwood, car drives well smile.gif

hi EB friends,
Anyone facing this transmission jerking / engine wanna mati feeling (but RPM needle still shows engine still running)

Only when gear is in R , car in standstill , on a gentle slope , i.e rev until 1500rpm then suddenly let go the accelerator.
But if i press the accelerator and let go gently no problem. Only in R. In D no problem.

Just only this minor issue. Maybe its because the RPM drop too sudden and the engine management takes a while to realise. And yes i am aware this is using a wet clutch, not a torque converter.

A clutch adaptation at any authorised service centre should be able to solve your problem.
*
I think I need to go back to CoSE if I really need to do adaptation re-tuning since its not critical.
As my last service I went to a dealer instead cause I needed immediate oil change service instead of booking appointment with CoSE and waiting.

But someone here highlighted before that, for every after 20 times of shifting from N into either D or R, it will readjust itself.

Other than that, no other issues.

Proton claims 7.9L/100KM@90KM/hrs@100%highway.
I'm getting 10L/100KM@>140KM/hrs@80%highway.
*
I managed to get very close to 8.1L/100Km by doing 100-110Km/H.

Attached Image

This one was from Shah Alam to Ayer Keroh R&R.
3 Adults (and 1 baby) and just 2 luggages.

Need a very patience driver to do 90Km/h all the way from Shah Alam to i.e Ayeh Keroh biggrin.gif

Thats the good of cvt, the long you can maintain @ infiniti gearing around 2.0-2.1k rpm, the lower afc you can get and the use of cruise control will benefit more =)
*
yeah. in fact I love CVTs. My dad has the old City IDSI with CVT. although less (or half) the power of EB but the fuel consumption is fantastic. City can even cruise just above 1200rpm if really go gentle. unfortunately most people hate CVT because it doesn't have that "tukar gear" feeling.

okey back to the EB, I've tried driving with rpm around 1.6k-1.8k but have to be very gentle on the throttle at 60-70kmh range only. and mine is Standard edition.. no cruise control..meaning I have to manually control my foot (and temptation)

so CFE air intake fully depends on turbo?
**sory for this question. wana learn abt cfe on youtube but not mch details.. u guys got experience so ya.

*
Turbocharger unit helps the engine to breath much better , hence more torque and power. It's unlike CPS engine depending on VIM (not IAFM) and CPS to regulate air flow.

But thanks to this Exora turbo, they have both turbo and Variable Valve Timing (again slightly different than CPS engine) to maximize power output. So there is no VIM or IAFM intake controller device.

I suggest you watch this video:

For me..better use semi and service below 5k to take care our turbo..
*
For me, the best way to take care of a turbo, is to idle the car for around 30 secs to 1 minute (air cond off also) if driven hard, although thr turbo is water cooled.

And activate the radiator fan twice after switch off the engine.

And if i am at home, i open up my front hood to let the hot air expel for at least a few hours. I know its not written in the manual but just extra precaution measures.

Here is an article about taking care of turbo:

sometimes i do this too. i wonder if there are drawbacks to it like rapid cooling or something.
*
Nah, its fine, a stream of cool wind won't do any harm. In fact if you pour water onto directly onto anything very hot, then yes, that's not good for the car.

Furthermore it takes a longer time to cool down this engine (I'm not implying the engine has overheated) compared to Normal Aspirated engines

is there any low cost method to install or add a usb input to the car? Main goal is to be able to broadcast from device to car speakers.
*
What I did was , I bought a RM 10 China made MP3 player (yes, RM 10,can be found at Super Save branches, in IOI and Da-Men USJ) , plug a stereo cable from Aux Input of the CD player to the MP3 player and voila, MP3 songs on the move.

The MP3 player uses an SD card, which you can connect to your PC to upload the songs.

Hi Exora friends,
Few weeks ago I hit a roadside curb at night at Empire Hotel Subang exit.

and damaged my front right tyre (tyre blow) and also damaged my steel rim.

I sent back to Siang Hin Subang Jaya to redo the alignment ,balancing and swap tyres already. They noticed the damaged steel rims (although I didnt' tell them) and offered to repair , but however I need to leave the car at their service centre. They didn't give a quotation yet.

The car still runs however it starts vibrating at 90 onwards. Also I dont drive the car daily.

Any suggestions where can I can repair the rims? Luckily its a steel rim.

Hi Exorian friends,

Just want to ask, how long does your tyre last?

My 3 yrs old Exora with only 29K mileage, is almost near to its end on its original Champiro BAX 2 tyre. It's a weekend car, which means either run during weekend, or just go nearby.
Spend most of its lifespan running in the city, sometimes run outstation.

Felt that it's quite short lifespan for this tyre, compared to other cars which can do 40-50K mileage on their tyres.

Sorry if I ask this question again.

I run these on rear, next a pair of older Good Year Triple Assurance.

Using tread measure, the BAX2 was 1mm more when new.
I was expecting the Good Year to finish first, being older an running in the front. Guess what... the BAX2 on the rear ran out first. thumbup.gif
*
LOL. That means the Bax 2 runs out very quickly.

Remember I last post that I bust one of my tyres? Now I have 3 pcs of Bax 2 ( Front X 2 , 1 pc on rear right side) and the left rear is using imported, used tyres blush.gif (Sorry la, cheapskate abit but it's only RM 120 per pc).
The brand is TOYO Tranpath J48 which I read it's the OEM factory fitted tyres for Toyota Tarago (Estima in Malaysia) in Australia .

(For those who is interested in imported, used tyres, check out Puchong TTH Tyre Sdn. Bhd)

When I compare the TOYO tread vs the Bax 2, I notice the BAX 2 tyre tread is more like a budget performance tyre compare to the Toyo Tranpath J48 which is very similar to Toyo Nano Energy 3 that is sold in Malaysia.

Also when my mechanic changed my tyres, he noticed that there is like a "sinking" in the thread, which kinda brings to my attention. I saw that when he was turning the tyres on the balancing machine. cry.gif

Thats why for my next 3 tyres, I am considering of changing to Toyo Nano Energy 3 to synchronize all same set of tyre brands.
