I think Shell isnt the best friend to Exora.
Previously i was on several fill ups of Petron. Then few days ago, with my fuel gauge still remaining 2 bars left, my father took it for a drive, and fill up RM 80 worth of Shell.

Just FYI, after i last filled up with Petron, i reset the Average Fuel consumption, took it for a drive to Klang to and fro, and was using the highway (including speeding up to 130km/h) . I did encounter some traffic jam in Klang and slow speed driving (finding car park). I had covered about 120km before the tank was filled up with Shell.

when it was last with Petron it was still showing around 10.6l/100km, but after just a short 25km drive of the recently filled up Shell, now its showing 11.1L/100km cry.gif . I didnt reset the fc meter either.
(I took photos of the trip meter and the avg fuel consumption before this incident happened)

And furthermore yesterday when i took it for a drive nearby, without triggering the turbo boost and driving as gently as possible, with the aid of the Instant Fuel Consumption reading, the moment i reached home and turn off the engine, the fan started running blink.gif
Previously with Petron, it didnt trigger the fan on gentle drives. And the fc seems to has gotten worse (from 10.6l/100km to 11.1l/100km) with gentle drives

Now i know that if one were to frequently drive with the turbo boost activated, it will activate the fan. However yesterday i was driving real gentle, doing max speed only 65km/h.

So i could only comment that Shell does bring some noticeable effect to Exora's engine.

I used to always pump Shell (because of bonuslink laugh.gif). But since earlier this year I have been trying out other petrol brands just to see how its like..

For me, I find that Shell, Petron and BHP give about the same fuel consumption figures. Only Petronas consistently gives not-as-good fuel consumption figures.

However, my reason for disliking Shell is that I find it makes the car vibrate a little more than usual compared to BHP or Petron.

Currently trying out Caltex after hearing many good things about it. Just filled up my EB with Caltex RON95 yesterday. Will try it out for a few tanks and see how it is brows.gif
*
Your mentality is almost just like my parents and sister laugh.gif , care about collecting Bonuslink points, dun care about petrol quality. If I tell them Petron is better than Shell, they will comment "Aiya, all petrol are the same one".
Even I have Genting World Card, also find it slow to collect points if pump at BHP.

I also dun like Shell cause I used it for other cars, and it never lives to it's tagline:
Designed to last longer per tank.

Caltex in Subang quite hard to get. I only know SS14, Sunway (opposite Sunway Pyramid) and USJ 16. Thats all in whole of Subang.

BTW, yesterday I went out with my other car, stop by at BHP (next to SJBA Vihara) and wash my car for only RM 3 rclxms.gif laugh.gif

Looks like the super premium variant. Possibly replacing the Prime.

Dat RIMS though  whistling.gif

Dun like the rims too.

Anyway so far my EB is okay, except 1-2 minor things;

1) Highly not recommended to use Shell fuel. FC is unbelivably atrocious.
2) Headlamp focus not good. My hand feel like gatal want to change the halogen bulb to something like OSRAM Night Breaker or PIAA Xtreme White (I want to change to White, just only concern JPJ will kacau).

Anyone can suggest a good H4 halogen bulb?

Mine is Bold Standard edition.. Lagi no fog lights.
I do think its the cheap halogen bulb quality that Proton supplied with the car. Havent open mine yet to see what brand.

when we press the pedal, the car will move slowly at first, then only it will run fast..it's the characteristics of our cvt gearbox right? is there any way we can make our car run fast the moment we press the pedal, like most of the car out there?

due to this, I'm always pretty nervous when trying to come out from roundabout etc.. sweat.gif
*
Yes, It's the characteristic of the wet-clutch in action.
Below 15km/h, it will slip alot to move the car first, then the moment it approaches 15km/h, the computer will fully engage the clutch. Its like driving a manual car; in manual you slip the clutch first in 1st gear. But in this CVT, it does that for you automatically.
Itdepends on how gentle or how hard you step the accelerator. The computer detects how gentle you press your accelerator.
The more gentle you press, the slower it fully engages the clutch.

So if you want to run from dead stop faster, Easy, press harder on the accelerator, and it will surge in front.

For city driving it can vary from 10.6L - 12.3L/100km, depending on the driver's right foot and the petrol brand.
In km/l , thats 8.1km/l to 9.4km/l.
Highway driving can go as low as 8l/100km (12.5km/l)

Shell is the worst enemy for exora turbo. Thats why i got 8.1km/l  cry.gif

if you choose the BOLD@turbo, bare in mind to managed your right foot how to behave. the power itself will spoil everything. i always speck to myself to calm down, but ended 'cocok' almost everybody. getting 10-11KM/L(highway}, is good enough for me. the worse part, always 'kene' speed trap. doh.gif
*
True. BTW I noticed if I were to keep it off-the-boost too much (city driving, in other words, drive like a granny on a Sunday morning) then the average FC will show up higher.
I think it's because when off boost...the engine becomes 1.6NA ,and has to move 1.5 ton mammoth + 7 adults , at slow speed.

I tried speeding once up to 130KM/h, just after reset the FC meter, FC was showing up good. But the moment I reach the Klang-Banting traffic lights (damn long timing) , FC shot up (yeah I know, idling wastes fuel).

So this car is abit odd. It loves to be on-boost, especially on faster speeds.

But yeah you are correct too. Too much boost spoils the whole FC. But in the end, it's the price we pay for all the power excitement.

Yes I have a screenshot of my FC meter. The FC meter was reset when on the 1 tank of Shell.
Previously was on 1 tank of Shell, so I completed 1 tank at 12.1L/100KM , so now I am trying out 1 tank of Petronas (just filled up yesterday)

Photo screenshot is my phone right now but I can't upload now. (Office PC dont allow USB connections)

As promised, here is my FC shot :

The fuel light was still blinking though.

Now on Petronas update, FC meter showing between 11.3-11.5L/100KM after travelling for about 50KMs, so its not the final figure.

Update: P1 SC called me to change my steering rack.

SleeplessEyesThe EB engine has low compression ratio of 8.9:1, so driving off boost is bad idea for good FC, and the turbo will not get sufficient spool to cool down. With boost (0.7~0.75 bar), the effective compression ratio becomes 14~15:1.

Drive like granny, the turbo will be hotter. You'll more likely to notice radiator fan switching on after engine shut off.

Lotus design CFE with low compression ratio to run RON 88.
*
alexei, car seldom drive (2nd car), only driven on weekends/holidays/whenever feel like it, thats why low mileage laugh.gif
2nd service, not even reach 5000KM already service biggrin.gif

Something new I learn. 14-15:1 compression, almost like Mazda SkyActiv without turbo.

Anyway, I now learn to drive a little faster than a granny. laugh.gif
Yesterday tried to catch up with a Toyota Landcruiser Prado LX470 (4.7L V8 flex.gif ) and a VW Jetta. Both are fast & furious driver, especially the Jetta.
Jetta obviously have good acceleration off the line, but Exora still can catch up with it later.
So no problem catching up. Proud of my EB. nod.gif

I have never driven until fuel light come on. I usually will refuel right away once it shows one bar left.

Just curious, how many more km can you travel once the fuel light comes on?
*
Hi Bro.

According to the manual,

Attached Image

Usually I noticed, when the "Distance-To-Go" KM reaches around 60-65KM range, the fuel warning light will come on, and the fuel gauge will blink. And usually the "Distance to Go" meter will show " - - - " if go below 50KM.
Usually when the light comes up, still can travel from PJ back to Subang safely.

I dare not use until the last bar disappear.

Well.. I agree with you that Jetta really has great performance with very great pickup power. I have no idea how come your Exora can catch up the VW Jetta. Perhaps, that Jetta slow-down and wait for you? JK xD
*
VW Owner/Supporter detected. Anyways, welcome to the club.

Anyway I dont know what brings you here, but anyhow, welcome.

happyfriday Anyway why feel butt hurt? I didn't condemn the Jetta. And neither did I say Jetta is a crappy car. In fact before I gotten the Exora, I test drove the Jetta, Golf , Passat, and I actually liked the Passat, but unfortunately it's out of my reach now.

If you noticed my earlier comment, I only say I able to catch up. And I wasn't doing top speed just to catch up with him either. Was only doing 80-100Km/h on a normal 3-lane road. Just a short burst of mid-range acceleration.
If I said I overtaken the Jetta, I think I will have drawn even more criticisms.

And oh BTW, I have my daughter and wife on board
That Jetta which I "catch up" from behind, well I think he must have noticed, I caught up, then he started trying to lose sight of me, by zig-zagging between cars and lane. While I remain in my lane throughout the journey.
So in the end, who won? No need to have winners. Just enjoy your own cars.

Thats what the info they mentioned to me...Who knows? But if the fan keep on spin longer than usual sure there's something wrong..

Thinking over to install turbo timer controlling the spin timing. hmm.gif
*
Turbo timer is to control the engine , how many minutes and seconds of idling before shutting down. It doesnt control the fan.
I noticed one of the ways to minimize the fan shutdown, is to drive slightly slower (off turbo boost) at the last few km of your destination i.e reaching home.
That method of driving slower, will give time for the turbo to cool down partly.

For your question 1, you need to try and check a couple of things out.

1. Verify the throttle body is clean if questionable then clean it out with carb cleaner.
2. Test the battery and all ground and connections
3. Then check to if the torque convert to see if it is off balanced or wobbling. The Sensor could be having trouble reading it while in reverse.
4. Have to make sure the correct fluid was installed.
5. Check for a vacuum leak.
*
Hi,
Just to correct you a few things

1) This car uses electronic throttle/drive by wire throttle. So I wouldn't recommend cleaning it.
2) This car doesn't use torque converter. It uses a wet clutch.

The best is skunkz to send back to SC for clutch calibration as explained previously by Kristof of Punch PowerTrain.

Read the link here:

If still cannot, then try email Punch Powertrain Malaysia.

Just got the exora bold turbo premium.

Excellent value for the money RM72.2k (counted 5.8k rebate).

Complaint so far:

1. the cooling fan noise after switched off the engine is very loud !!! my whole house can hear it ...
2. difficult for me to drive at max 2000 rpm, torturing drive !!! can't wait to whack the turbo after 1000km...
*
I have a solution for you for item #2. But you might not like it. Turn on the SAT mode.
It will limit your driving power slightly, but importanly, it psychologically reduces your temptation to boost.

Here is the manual btw biggrin.gif

I'm getting 10.4L/100km with ODO clocking 250km
*
10.4 is quite good already. need a light foot to achieve such figure.
my record is so far for mixed driving is 10.6l/100km on Petronas and Petron, but mostly steady highway driving mixed with some city driving conditions to get such figure.

to achieve such good fc, i think you must be constantly off turbo boost driving at constant speed and away from traffic jams.

Hi all forumer,

I considering of buying this car (proton exora 1.6 cfe turbo) OR the new nissan grand livina.

May I know the exora is it good? is it better than Alza?

Please share your review especially the current owner of this exora.
*
Grand livina, is like an overpriced Alza. Its almost the same space as Alza.

exora is comparable with Innova spec, and beats it even, yet offering much cheaper price than even a Livina.

So for sure its better than Alza in every aspect.
Alza is not a full size MPV, Fyi. Its a stretch-up Myvi (im stating the fact . Go google about Toyota Passo Sette) . Its a 5+2 car. The last row of seat in the Alza, only acts as a mini 2 seater. Its good for children, but cramp for adults.

Especially the turbo is the part where it shines. Do not underestimate the power of a 1.6 turbo + CVT. Its way more powerful than Innova.

So far mine hasnt had any issues, touchwood.

I do agreed with you. Livina is about RM20k more expensive than the Exora bold and it is smaller.

What prevent me from buying Exora is the name Proton. All my friends who work as foreman & accessories repairman advise me not to buy Proton car & keep asking me to buy Alza instead. The reason is because Alza engine is from Toyota & they claimed much more realiable & the parts is better quality than Proton. But I know Alza is way underpower & the interior inside (looks cheap & plastic) is worst than Exora(looks better & seems better quality).
*
Its due to the pre-Proton Mitsubishi era, the days of Proton Wira/Iswara/Saga, where built quality is bad, which haunts people from buying a Proton today. That is why Perodua sells more. Its because of people's perception; I buy a Perodua, I am buying a Toyota indirectly.
Furthermore if you notice Proton's way of designing cars, since the Proton Savvy days, they focus on designing the car to be more towards European/Conti. From engine to the body.

Unfortunately most Malaysians tend to prefer Japanese, reliable but dull looking. I actually like Proton's new Iriz compared to the so-called new MYVI facelift.

I still have the Proton Wira at home for daily usage, and a few things has fallen off itself as time goes by. Including the power window had failed few times.
But engine is still okay though. In fact its smoother than my friend's Myvi (1st generation).

But if you see today's Proton, built quality has improved substantially. But it will take time for Proton to build back their reputation which was damaged 1 decade ago.
