i think i find the system quite useful for me, nothing to be regretted no matter HSDPA or UMTS.
final verdict: maxis 3g is good for whom doesnt have fixed line.
e.g. me, collage student.

I like the idea when it drops. I mean bandwidth does not come cheap. UMTS provides you 384Kbps (thats good when idling) and once you're active again it goes back up to HSDPA speeds. Fair enough I say

Just found this thread...
Have a question.

I'm using Maxis 3G(the rm120 package) with a Dopod 900 via usb connection.

It used to be normal like months ago but later on the pictures/graphic loaded from the internet would appear to be compressed, as in the quality is lower.

Tried on other notebooks/desktops but it's still the same. Tried with Streamyx, everything looks normal. Definitely not a hardware issue.

My guess is.. this is some sort of mechanism for Maxis to save their bandwidth?

It happens only to Maxis 3G UMTS/HSDPA Package. The Unlimited Package. Its because its going through their proxy. Their proxy compresses images to speed things up.

What can you do you ask - Nothing much

Maxis Broadband vs Maxis Unlimited are two different things

Nope there are not

You are connected to the the 'maxis' apn and we (wireless users) are connected to 'maxisbb' apn. It gives us a different IP Address and a different range

prasys, you are absolutely right. I strongly agree with what you just say that unlimited package and wireless users having the different IP address.

RSSI is Received Signal Strength Indictor and the lower ur dBm the better is your connection.
RSCP is Received Signal Code Power and the higher ur dBm the better is your speed.
Ec/lo is Carrier-to-Interference Ratio and the lower the dBm make your connection stable.

RSSI V is good?
RSCP ^ is good?
Ec/lo V is good?

It depends on you. There aren't any contract for the Unlimited 120 Package. It just uses your phone and on top of that you get a Public IP (not shared). So its good for leeching stuff off iRC Networks. Next up , we have the wireless broadband package. It focuses more into 'broadband'. Your images aren't compressed and you have a dedicated HSDPA Terminal (aka a modem + router) that'll save you some $$$ on buying HSDPA Phones.

It depends

I think compared with Maxis Broadband, Maxis unlimited 120 package is better. I have been using the package since Jun 2007. maxis give promotion RM99 for the unlimited maxis until end of this month. after that you need to pay RM120

I can download BT without using VPN.
BW is quite ok. Kajang area I can get something 40KBps for BT. Around KL/PJ can reach 80KBps.

I hope this can help you on deciding the package. If you are mobile user, means using Internet from different locations, I believe this package is the best.

In term of stability, until today what I can say my connection is working fine.

Well , you are given a Public IP for the Maxis 120 package. The IP Matches for me (AFAIK)...I've tried using my HTC Trinity with my PC. It gives a Class B IP Address

will the Maxis Broadband & Maxis unlimited 120 package share the same network?
that day, maxis broadband sent 2 technicians to my office to find out/solve the connecting problem for me, they told me "yes".......sure or not? rclxub.gif
