hmm..so expensive? i bought my tortoise for 50cent now as big as a CD size.
btw got any effective and easy way to clean tortoise poo? because im going oversea soon and my parents dont know how to handle my baby.

so i need a plan a easy way for them to clean it rather then handling the tortoise.
*
star tortoise for 50 cents? or do you mean the green turtle?

QUOTE(uzairi @ Nov 13 2006, 01:46 AM)
Yes, they are priced like that depending on the stocks. About the poo, i think u can place a bowl where they can go inside it. They usually likes to poo inside the water. When i put a bowl inside my tank, they drink some water and start poo-ing and pee-ing inside the bowl. But its cleaner and better that way.
Ive seen a few of those Elongated were selling for Rm150 for a specimen around 5-6 inches. And i think they are the cheapest tortoise we can get. Forstein's are more expensive and they are rarer.
*
i now feed my RES and malayan box outside of the tank. after feeding time, normally 1/2 hour to 1 hour later my RES will poo inside the water. But the same thing does not happen to my malayan box. After more than 1 hour still no more poo. So when i put back in the tank, he'll poo in the tank (not sure when does he poo. sedar2 dah ade). Do malayan box take longer time to poo?

Kamekame.

good news, found an alligator snapping turtle at taman desa aquarium. dunno if hatchling or not but size was around 2 inch. selling at rm160. they only have 1 though ( used to have 3, but 2 sold already)

p.s: at first i wanted to keep this info to myself since im also very interested in having one ally too, but not right now since im quite broke after raya, plus no space to put the ally plus am concentrating in my new cichlid tank project

Was wondering, is it safe to use water straight from the tap when doing a water change?
even without putting anti-chlorine, aquarium salt or let it age overnight? blink.gif
previously i use dechlorinated, salted and aged water but quite troublesome since i have to store it first in a big tong plus need to carry the water using buckets sweat.gif . so was wondering of a more efficient way to do water changes wink.gif

Its better to use the old method and safe the animals later. If we use straight from tap water, the chlorine level and ph level is not suitable for most aquatic animals.
RES is another story, they are very hardy.
I think its situated at Taman Desa Waterpark there.  laugh.gif
*
opps, i left out one important item. is the tap water safe for my box turtle and RES?
for my fish of course no compromy la still have to use aged, salted dechlorinated water. but what about for my turtles?

QUOTE(BillyJoe2212 @ Nov 18 2006, 01:48 PM)
I just got back from Taman Desa Aquarium, all they had was a common snapper.....still no Ally Snapper *sigh* cry.gif
They guy told me to call and check on Thursday...so I suppose I'll just wait.
*
herm, maybe sold out already. call first before going back. because sometimes the suppliers dont supply on time

i was planning to get a customized tank that have partitions in it so can house all together...

right now is to save up $$$ !!!
*
a customized tank is much more expensive. for the same dimension of a standard 3 feet aquarium, buying ready made is much more cheaper than custom made from glass shop (this is told by the glass shop owners themselves).
i once bought a ready made 3 feet tank, than sent to glass shop to modify and create a basking area for my malayan box. even that cost me an extra RM40

so its not really saving up money, well unless you customize yourself la and dont use glass

No credit, no money to top up also. Better use the money to eat, here the food quite expensive. Tomorrow i try to find my fren so that i can transfer to her laptop. Sorry for the delay.

Btw i just put Sea Cucumber oil to the turtles and there's a lot of leech. Since its a wild one so there's a lot of them hiding under the shell at their feet. Pity them. No worries as they all gone already.

the minyak gamat drove away the leeches?

i really doubt that turtles can climb the aquariums wall. maybe he climbed your driftwood, or filter hose, or the rocky background. Or maybe someone took him out from the tank, played with it, forgot to put it back and too afraid to admit it shakehead.gif

went to aquaria today. woo very happy. didnt expect them to have turtles as well. even the saw the big chitra. damn big liao. (they also have some other exotics, snake, tarantula, etc)
went for free because of a charity thingy for some orphans. but couldn't really enjoy and read the informations because the children were very excited and moved fast. will definitely go again by my own so that i can enjoy better hehe.
btw, price quite high. rm28 adults, rm22 for children.

Is that Radiata on your avator yours looks like an adult and very nice

Snake neck turtle are not hard to keep just that the bulk of them like live prey ie fish ,prawn, worms and when fed live food they grow fast
Can also be train to take fish pellets but some just wont accept
Most of them dont bask only a small percentage of them and breeding female bask
*
Do they take vegies?
Im afraid of their long necks. Easier for them to bite, even if handled from behind

QUOTE(goldfries @ Jan 18 2007, 09:41 AM)
just sponge and other filter media inside. connect the air-pump to it.
HOB is nice on those small tanks, BUT please be careful to choose appropriate flowrate.

HOB will have water coming down like waterfall, so in a small tank sometimes it's like a whirlpool. smile.gif
*
ooo tak perasan plak these types of filters

QUOTE(geediver @ Jan 18 2007, 11:53 PM)
IMHO, common goldfish will outgrow your cute tank. Your particular type that you have right now, will however decimate most types of plant (a little nibble here and there, lo behold no more plants). I asked that very same question back when I started, most often than not, everyone says that a 'naked'/empty tank is the best for goldfish. I've since gone for the naked look, too.

HOB varies in costs and sizes. Hunt around the various LFS in town, but please ask the people there what fits your tank size (they should stock similar tank sizes there), just try the ones they recommend against their stock tanks for size. Otherwise, you might be in for a shock when you get home.

There's a list of fish shops on 1 of the threads.

Btw,  doh.gif  hand itchy again, went and got myself a 1' tank. I should stop going to LFS altogether from now on. Keep trying to improve myself.
*
fortunately i live far from those big/fancy/better LFS. else will end up go there and shop everyday hehe

QUOTE(camillenoir @ Jan 31 2007, 02:48 AM)
cat litter does the job nicely. it's cheap too. wood chips tend to trap moisture if not monitored properly.

for adults, you may try neo peat (can get at nurseries, about RM14-15 for a whole lot of them). the bacteria in the substrate breaks down faeces and such, so the substrate lasts longer, no smell whatsoever. much cheaper than wood chips. however, it is troublesome for baby torts as the substrate could stick to wet parts.

me and uzairi learned this from someone who refused to be known biggrin.gif

hwa: torts should drink water that we drink, plus occasional calcium supplement. untreated tap water is not advisable...

jared: found your answer yet?
*
i use neo peat for the land area of my box turtle. good substrate. only problem is whenever he's hyperactive, some of the neo peat gets into the water everytime he climbs out from the water and back into the water. need to regularly suck it out

QUOTE(uzairi @ Jan 31 2007, 02:51 AM)
I will answer the 3 question for you since others had already answered your question. About the food, leafy green are recommended like sawi(mustard green) for their daily staple food and alternate them with bendi(lady finger), kacang buncis(french beans), kacang pangjang(long beans), Exo Terra Tortoise pellets and once a month labu(pumpkin) as pumpkin is a good natural dewormer and good for their stomach.
40c is a bit too high i can say, just make it lukewarm.
*
my boxie doesnt like sawi but loves kangkung. my wife says because "kurax2 kampung" x makan sayur2 import haha

need help here

my 9 yrs old tortoise suddenly refuse to eat since last week  cry.gif

i dont know wat kind of tortoise it is..but it look exactly like this

http://www.chelonia.org/cyclemysdentataJM5.jpg

i got her when she climb into my house 9yrs ago.. biggrin.gif

food that i usually give her is kangkong, banana, turtle food sold in pet shop, watermelon, honey dew and some green vegetable left from cooking

i let her out under the sun for few times a week
wat should i do now? help
*
I think its an asian leaf turtle. Never saw a wild one before. 9 years is a long time. A chinese friend of mine told me that if your house got visited by a turtle, you are bound for good luck smile.gif. I got visited by a Malayan Box and ive been keeping him ever since.
Cant help you though since it seems you gave it a proper diet and even enough sunlight. Did anything happened just before ?
