QUOTE(sayasebuk @ Nov 17 2006, 06:06 PM)
Was wondering, is it safe to use water straight from the tap when doing a water change?
even without putting anti-chlorine, aquarium salt or let it age overnight?  blink.gif
previously i use dechlorinated, salted and aged water but quite troublesome since i have to store it first in a big tong plus need to carry the water using buckets  sweat.gif . so was wondering of a more efficient way to do water changes wink.gif
*
Its better to use the old method and safe the animals later. If we use straight from tap water, the chlorine level and ph level is not suitable for most aquatic animals.

QUOTE(bubucaca @ Nov 17 2006, 08:28 PM)
i use pure water from tap.
hmm use since my RES was bought 5 years ago nothing wrong with my RES. planing to buy nother 2 more next week. =D
*
RES is another story, they are very hardy.

No cam rite now. The small one is tame coz i take care of him since he was small. He will just keep quiet when i handle him. The big one in the other hand is not tame at all, he will open his mouth whenever i try to take him out. sweat.gif

as promised, here are the pics...sorry for the delay...

all together, 5 star tortoise, 1 sulcata, 1 cherry head.....

now on the lookout for radiated...

my sulcata and cherry head....

Nice tortoise u have there. I think its better if u separate the star tortoise from the redfoot and the sulcata because star tortoise are prone to fall sick easier compared to their other Geochelone family members.

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Nov 19 2006, 02:05 PM)
my RES do ritual dances these days. worry if they mating2. then want to lay eggs. aih.. how to stop this? dont want to breed them.
*
Yeah, i think they are in the process of mating. Btw how big is your RES ? If you dont want them to mate then separate them. That's all.

mwtang, Nice Star tortoise you have there.

my res start doing all the ritual dance since last 2 years. but i lazy to mate him
btw?if i put Res inside an aquarium will it suffacate?RES is a water type or a ground type? these few years i put him under 5cm of water
*
U should place them insde a 50% water and 50% land enclosure.

QUOTE(LEVIATHAN @ Nov 19 2006, 06:01 PM)
how much a 120-gallon tank will cost me? i think i will buy a bigger tank, but only after i know the price. sapa tau?
edit: oh and what will be the dimension? as a 15-gallon comes with 2 kaki lebar, 1 kaki panjang, 1 kaki tinggi.
edit2: oh the dim can be seen here

so what is the price for a 120-gallon?

*
Its easier if you know the ft measurement. How big is your turtle/tortoise ?

Sulcata, redfoot and radiated can mix together. Pancake and star tortoise need to isolate.

QUOTE(kamekame8888 @ Nov 20 2006, 02:09 PM)
Anyway i think its always best to separate every each species no?...thats what i read from most caresheets and guidelines except for some Cooters or Sliders species...dont know for sure myself though.
Kamekame.
*
Depends on their needs. Mostly, the star needs to be separated coz they are prone to desease by other subspecies even in the Geochelone family. Other are okay to be mixed.

QUOTE(kamekame8888 @ Nov 20 2006, 04:34 PM)
But if you are eyeing Pancake tortoise or Radiated tortoise, your budget should be sufficient for a Leopard tortoise right? I thought they are cheaper then the two said earlier? Anyway all of them are interesting tortoise so whatever your choice maybe, it will not be wrong. Just share pictures with us when you got them.

Tanks doesnt cost you much i believe...satu kaca 3 kaki maybe RM50? tongue.gif Anyway do they all share the same bedding or different? Like Sulcata, CheerHead, Radiated etc....
Kamekame.

p/s i wish i have the money for Radiated tongue.gif
*
Yeah, Leopard Tortoise is cheaper compared to Radiated.

About the tank , getting it from small shops are better since they are cheaper. Nevertheless u need to scout around and see which one gives u the best price.
