if the weight is lesser than volumetric weight then they will charge by volumetic rates

to know what is volumetric weight is = Lenght x Width x Height , devide by 6000 then u will get the volumetric weight

So to prevent them from counting using volumetric weight, it's better to use small box rite. Anyway.. Thanks a lot.. I will try to calculate it. biggrin.gif

Sometimes you'll get lucky if the staff lazy to measure. They'll use weight only.

Most probable by Volumetric.. unless the weight is heavier than the volumetric weight then they will charge by weight

box it up, make sure there's enough padding so that if pressure is put onto the box it won't crumple. If you need to go and buy packaging material anyway one, I suggest going to a Mailboxes Etc outlet. They will know how to pack for you nicely, and can post using Pos Laju straight from there smile.gif

Hi all. I'm a newbie with this postage/courier services. Never done this before. blush.gif

Um, what do I need to do with this?;

I wanna post this item for a friend. I'm from Sabah & he's @ Penang.
It's your typical 2.5" External HDD + wrapped with Graphic Card wrapper.
Weight around ~1Kg or so.

Do I need more wrapping? Do I box it? The smallest box I have is an Power UPS/AVR box.
It's big and may add some unnecessary weight/size.

What then? Need help here. Thank you guys. blush.gif

Personally I would go more heavy duty with the wrapping, just in case it gets dropped. Box + packing peanuts + bubblewrap + staticfree wrap would do the trick, but it will get weighty/bulky when you compare it to the item's weight itself. If you're posting out via reg post then I'll suggest stick with wrapping kao kao to be safe, since postage cost won't be that expensive, but if Pos Laju then it can get quite expensive.

Remember that you need to add 31% for service fee, gst and fuel surcharge

I believe you can get your parcel addressed to your uni, and your uni collect and hold for you right? make sure the sender put your student ID number also so easier for your uni staff to find you. You cannot get the sender to deliver to the post office, unless you own a post office box there. I suggest you ask your uni what are the procedures.

Sundays are Pos Laju's off days, so usually no updates. If she posted before the cut off time on Sat, you should get your parcel on Monday, if after cut off time then Tuesday (depending on where you are).

Buying expensive stuff like phones and having it posted is very high risk btw.
