GT72 and Computex upgrades

The GT72 is no newcomer, but as you probably already know, we’ve given it upgradability in the shape of upgradable MXM graphics, swappable SSDs and RAM. That doesn’t mean that we’ll just leave it to see itself out, instead we demonstrated two fairly large new technologies on it at Computex: Tobii eye-tracking and NVIDIA G-Sync.
Our co-operation with Tobii hasn’t resulted in a finalized product just yet, but a prototype – and one that works well at that. Basically, it tracks your eye movement and lets you for example control your in-game movement with your eyes – see Laptop Mag’s article on the technology here: http://blog.laptopmag.com/msi-gt72-with-tobii

In addition to this, NVIDIA has launched mobile G-Sync, and we’ve of course implemented this in the GT72. This means you can have tearing-free gameplay on the go for the first time. This is something you’ll be able to find in stores shortly.

Also worth noting is that the GT72 with the new Tobii and NVIDIA tech scored Laptop Magazine’s “Best Laptop of Computex 2015” award, as seen here: http://blog.laptopmag.com/best-computex-2015

Computex in Pictures

For MSI, Computex is always a highlight of June, with tons of international media and other visitors swarming the Nangang Exhibition Hall. We’ve already touched on one of our biggest eye-catchers of 2015, the Tobii eye-tracking equipped GT72, but apart from that, we also had lots of other things going on at our booth as well as participation with partners.

Have a look at our comprehensive picture documentation of our booth in our 150-picture album on Imgur, including goodies such as the GT80 and AIO prototypes such as the AX24, GTX 980 Ti graphics cards and the new X99A Godlike motherboard: http://imgur.com/a/fVrJE#0

I wanted to buy the MSI Apache GE62 2QE. But almost all the shops in Klang Valley is out of stock. I asked when the next shipments are coming in and they said the new shipments of laptops just came in but the GE62 2QE are not included in the shipments. Has that particular model been discontinued or is it just out of stock?

MSI Rewards

It is with pleasure we announce our new initiative – MSI Rewards. As the name suggests, it is a reward program for users of the MSI Gaming forums. In short, you will earn points for being active and helpful, registering your products online and sharing your experiences of your MSI products as well as games.

user posted image

Once you’ve gathered enough points, you’ll be able to claim your rewards – the prize table is changeable, but includes both games and hardware. Currently, we have copies of Far Cry 4 and The Elder Scrolls: Online to offer, in addition to the GTX 960 GAMING 100 Million Edition as well as the GE62 Gaming Notebook.

To sign up and for more info, see the MSI Rewards website.

i7-4600M Overclocking

Overclocking is something we don’t talk about a lot when it comes to mobile gaming systems. We don’t usually encourage it either, but at least you can usually overclock your graphics card via software, and especially in our GT series, there is a little bit of headroom, due to a beefy thermal design.

The regular Core i7 CPUs were never intended for overclocking, yet despite this, Thai overclocker “0.0” has found a way to push a Core i7 4600M CPU to a full 4800MHz in a GE60 notebook, using a bit of creative hacking. This 4800MHz frequency is not only stable enough to run Intel’s XTU Benchmark, but the high frequencies manage to propel it to the top of the worldwide leaderbords for dual-core CPUs - with 602 points.

user posted image

While 0.0’s chosen method is a modified firmware, this overclocking method is obviously out of reach of most people, but more info on the world’s fastest dual-core CPU in Intel XTU can be found over at HWBOT and 0.0’s result discussion thread.

Notebook Feature Video

Ever wondered about all the special features that go into an MSI Gaming notebook? Need someone to explain stuff such as Super RAID, Killer networking and other features for you? Well, worry no longer – we’ve created a handy 18-minute panel style video with Jonas, and Arjang from our UK office, discussing the points that make the MSI Gaming ecosystem truly unique.

The result can be seen below:

MSI Collection

We have previously highlighted our bundle items in a Youtube video, which resulted in a lot of requests for more info on the products. Therefore, we’ve taken a further step to show off our bundled items, including backpacks, palmrests, keyboard skins and what have you – they are all visible at our MSI Collection page, which can be found here: http://www.msi.com/collections/pages

Currently, none of the items are for sale to the general public, but they just might become in the future if we see enough hits on the page.

Windows 10 upgrade

Windows 10 is drawing close. Very close. If you’re running a consumer version of Windows 7 SP1 or 8.1, you will have noticed a message in the right end of the taskbar with a Windows logo – if you click this, you will be prompted to upgrade to Windows 10.

Due to Microsoft’s eagerness to have a lot of people upgrade to their new operating system, they are offering a free upgrade if you have a valid license for Windows 7 or later, meaning this is essentially a no-brainer if you want the latest and greatest.
If you’ve already signed up for the upgrade, it’ll be downloaded to your computer on July 29, after which you can choose to install the upgrade whenever you’re ready. You can also choose to cancel the upgrade even if you’ve signed up for it. Should Windows 10 for some reason not be to your liking, we are shortly releasing a guide on how to revert back to Windows 7 or 8.1.
The offer is valid for a year, until July 29, 2016, and the license will be yours to keep if you upgrade within this timeframe – reinstallation of the operating system will not void your license.
