i am going to UNISA in adelaide to further study as well..as a pharmacist..

just want to ask..did any of u encounter any problem while applying for visa??..quite nervous..u know..immigration can b a nasty..

besides that, is a pharmacist easy to get a job there???..i mean i plan to get a PR there after graduation..but if it is hard to get a job there as a pharmacist..what is the point??.. biggrin.gif..

1.) I don't think getting visa is that hard just that when you go for medical checkups that applies to the visa application, make sure to tell your doc to give you "healthy" status. Last time, my stupid doc put down a note "overweight" on the medical checkout slip and it causes my visa application delayed. So, do take note of that. Other than that, it should be fine. btw, which college are you studying/graduated from atm?

2.) Finding jobs in Australia isn't that hard because Australia need work force for professional field. I don't know much about pharmacist but all I know Australia has a lot of demand for engineering field work force. One good example, my class, guess how many people are doing for final years, a total of 20ish peeps compared to a large hall full of Commerce students. So, figure out. But anyway, shouldn't be a problem getting a job for as long as you have PR status in hand, makes things a lot easier. Oh btw, just incase if you didn't know, if you are getting PR, you need to sit for English test such as Cambridge ESOL so on as its a part of requirement for applying PR.

n can sumbody tell me abt monash uni in aus oso?? i wan sum info on tat 2 ...
thx

Yes, Adelaide is a peaceful and quiet place, like I mentioned. Not really fun unless you define fun as in, you know going out to city to hang out, not a very good place cause Adelaide is a bit laid back compared to more "busy" city, such as Melbourne or Sydney. Well, the best Uni in Adelaide has got to be University of Adelaide but, you have to think the capability of studying UniAdelaide cause that uni is kinda hard to get into unless you are really capable. And if you are talking about engineering terms, compared to my current UniSA to them, UniSA is geared more towards to practical teaching where as UniAdelaide is more to theories.

And as for the cost of studying, if you are comparing UniAdelaide and UniSA, I can safely assume that UniSA offers cheapest rate in South Australia, anyone could correct me if I am wrong (cause kinda lazy doing research with current internet status) About Monash, I don't know much about it but all I know, if you are looking for the most affordable place to study, its gotta be Adelaide. Though some say Tasmania is affordable too as well.

Just a word of caution though since I'm Australian educated engineering student.

Don't take for granted that when the university tells you that it's a 4 years degree program means you can complete the degree in exactly 4 years like local universities do.

In general, a BEng paper in Australia has about 35 modules to complete. Each year you'll have like 2 semesters and a short one  at the end of the year.Taking 4 subjects per semester is a really crazy thing to do and I must warn you that most of the time you'll barely get through with passes or if you're lucky, probably score in one or two of the subjects.

Unlike in local colleges where I've seen students taking over 5-6 subjects in a single semester and still make it with most subjects getting As, do not compare this with Australian universities.I'm already 23 this year and while all my friends who entered local universities with the same engineering course that I took have graduated, I still have another year to go with my degree.

You may one to ask other Australian students in this forum about how they find about the number of years they took to complete their degrees.3 subjects itself is already taxing.Four subjects per semester is the maximum that you can take although the universities won't stop you from taking a much as you like since resitting means more money.

I have a Australian friend who is taking double majors in engineering and business administration is already 26 this year and he tells me that his course is taking so long to complete.

You are absolutely right. Im 23 as well. Suppose to do 4 years, next year will be my 5th year. Trip & fall. Hard to pass. Geez.. i wonder why they are so strict when it comes to 3rd year and 4th year? Its like a uni making profit dy.. *sigh*

If you got any seniors around, passing wouldn't be a problem. And yes, usually 3rd year, for me at least, is the hardest and most pressuring moment of the year since I just got through it. Its more like a testing your capability in 3rd year to determine if you can advance to the final year imho.

7 subjects in one semester at UNSW?
OMG...that's like suicide man.But I think you're a very bright student to make it through.Passing all 7 subjects in one semester is already considered a feat itself.
Are you undertaking an engineering course? thumbup.gif

For me 4-5 subjects is already almost impossible for me.If I miss these subjects, I'll have to wait for the same semester next year before I can take them.
For example subjects A,B and C are offered in Semester 1.If I didn't take say subject A or I failed it, I'll have to wait for next year's semester 1 again to take it again. So plan your modules enrolment carefully.

If you're doing it on campus, every year will cost you almost RM100k unless your family has sufficient financial backing.Apart from this the Australian Government is now considering to increase universities fees as well.

Wow, I have been worrying about this for weeks. However, I am underweight.
Is this a problem? Will this cause any difficulties when applying for visa?
What do you mean by "tell your doctor to give you healthy status"?

You are asking me to bribe?

I dont want to risk my scholarship.By the way, I heard that the doctors are pretty strict on medical check-up. Scarry.

You will have to have a medical check-up by one of the doctors in DIMIA's list. They are picked by the high comm. so it is not advisable to get away from things 'the Malaysian style'. Australia is a VERY strict country and you won't want to be in trouble. BTW, being underweight or overweight is not a serious problem! I'm 169cm, 16 years old and 47kg(underweight) and my visa was accepted.

You are not exactly underweight(your BMI is more than 17).

Hercules899's BMI is 16.2 and mine is 16.4....and that is called underweight... cool2.gif

I do not believe weight/height is a problem at all unless you have some medical condition which caused it.

Just asking,im currently study A-Levels.My course ending at June or July this year and im considering studying in Aus since it's cheaper than UK or US.Firstly,do the univercites in Aus accept A-Levels results?

I keep on hearing Adelaide is good for study. Is there any good engineering uni over there?Planning to take E&E or Civil engineering over there.

That really depends on which university that you are going to. The figures do not differ much between many universities in the UK and Australia.
