QUOTE(bhypp @ Jan 8 2007, 09:25 AM) yea....juz as wat chris_c28 said...the funny thing is....d tax here is bout 40%...so u would only geta small sum in ur paycheck but we can get a tax return or sth like dat....so thats why we need the tax file number... Your first $6,000 of the year is tax free. Thereafter, its 15% up to $25,000. Doubt you'll earn any more than that. Your employer deducts a certain amount of your wages to forward to the tax office. They'll follow a chart, chances are it'll be slightly above what you are really supposed to pay so you'll get a tax refund at the end of the tax year when you fill in a tax return. vdvaart: visa u juz apply online...usually idp will giude u thru that...simple as abc....oh yea...better get urself vaccinated 1st....with watever la...coz it wud b a pain in the back to fell sick overseas....esp if u get a terrible cold.....get yerslf a flu jab....erm..n make sure uve seen ur dentist b4 u go,....make sure u wont hav any dental probs thruout ur stay there...dental fees r exp even if u look at the figures alone...if u convert lagi teruk... Your wages will also include a compulsory 9% superannuation contribution. |

HELP....thx in adv That is called withholding tax. It is because you didn't apply for a Tax File Number. So go apply for a Tax File Number from the ATO, then tell the bank your number and they'll give you back your money. |

QUOTE(haya @ Mar 16 2007, 01:48 PM) I know this a very late post, but once you've applied to the ATO for a tax file number, what do you do? Do you have to go to the bank you opened your account, or can u do it online? Do you need proof of identification like passport? Yeah, go to your bank and tell them you've got a TFN, tell them the number and thats it. Don't think you can do it online. |

QUOTE(aobk84 @ Jul 4 2007, 01:12 PM) they (some oz playmaker) always hike the rate up early and middle of the year coz they know lots of students n tourist going there. u wait n c after july n august, the rate will go down a bit. it's been like this for the past 3 years Are you saying that the Australian dollar rises because of students and tourists and not because of a booming economy and high commodity prices? Do you have any articles to back this up? I'm sure the Reserve Bank would be very interested to know about it. |

QUOTE(aobk84 @ Jul 5 2007, 03:47 PM) Ops sorry it's my own experience after and still studying there for 4 years.. coz when i get back here to change currency it's always higher than other time of the year. So you're saying you based what you say on your personal observations for 4 years? If anything, they'd devalue the currency so tourists can buy more things when they come over wouldn't they? maybe i should do some research since i graduated vit bachelor of econs n now doing postgrad for accounting, sorryla i didnt take postgrad for econs if not this will be my thesis First, Australian economy runs under a Managed Floating Exchange Rate. So even if their economy is affected by student, tourists or commodity prices.. there is still an invinsible hand controlling the economy/exchange rate. They will try to do it to their own best interest just like what Malaysia is doing now. Go read Australia n Malaysia exchange rate policy first And the high Australian dollar has nothing to do with Malaysia. The Australian dollar has risen against every currency, once again, thanks to the mining boom. The Malaysian currency has risen against the USD too but not fast enough. |

QUOTE(chris_c28 @ Jul 12 2007, 09:59 PM) There are new visa regulations in place for students intending to stay after graduation. What I understand is upon graduation, you now will need to apply for a bridging visa which gives you 18 months to find a permanent job in your applicable field. You can only apply for a Permanent Residency after 18 months. Previously, I believe you will have gained enough points to directly apply for residency right after you graduate. That is incorrect. The new changes in fact benefits most of us who have a decent level of English. The 18 month temporary visa is only for people who do not meet the English requirements. It is a 'second chance' for them to get a PR by proving that they are good enough to gain employment. I believe this is targeted towards people from China who can't speak English. For the majority of To answer your question, yes, you can remain in Australia upon graduation to find a job here. I have attached the new points system with this post for your reference. QUOTE(QuackSilver @ Sep 9 2007, 11:21 PM) i suppose there are loopholes lol. but i'll see how things goes when i prepare my application next year. i'm pretty sure my degree is somewhere in the list, but i'll let the experts decide lol The rules states 'closely related' or something like that. I'm sure you can find something in the SOL thats 'closely related' to your course. Shouldn't be a problem |

QUOTE(limeuu @ Sep 22 2007, 03:19 PM) all g8 and atn unis............... It won't actually reach 99.5. A TER of 98 should be sufficient for full fee paying students. avoid the 2nd and 3rd tier unis.............fees are the same, but quality and comsistency may be a problem........... unless your ter scores sucks..........need at least 94 for g8..........99.5 for sydney and melbourne........... QUOTE A full-fee paying place may be allocated to applicants with a UAI up to five points below the UAI cut-off. The UAI cut-off for fee-paying in 2007 was 97.1. http://fmweb01.ucc.usyd.edu.au/ugcourses/F...en.9=law&-find= |
