well UQ seems large enough to me....ok maybe i havent been to any public uni in malaysia...but when u're late to class and ur lecture is held at one end of the campus u'll think its really large....i think thats because of the lakes and fields that makes the area large..not really the lecture buildings..and btw UQ has 21 tennis courts ( the largest in Queensland) and i really like the standstone buildings in UQ..looks classy...me and my fren is always having a UQ Vs QUT debate as in which uni rocks..hehe..
*
well there's only one lake in uni and that's at the end where no lecture buildings are at. its the playing fields that's killing people. 8 of them dotted around campus

those sandstone building's classy looks is one thing, but they look ancient on the inside heh

well QUT rocks in a way that Treasury is just next door tongue.gif other than that, i dont see it beating UQ IMO wink.gif

Spam more and this will head to Kopitiam.

Anyway, Melbournians, I'm suggesting the gathering be held during the easter break. I'd suggest a Sat or Sun night during the start of it.

Most of us (except eRiCCa xD) aren't that free with uni/work commitments, which is the main reason why it would be more appropriate to hold it at the said date.

To those staying in Melbourne, where's the best place to do grocery shopping (in the city/Clayton area?)

Looks like the rental rose up a bit this year, trying to look for a suitable 2-bedroom apartment near the city for <$250...

in the city, if you dont mind the distance, i suggest footscray and richmond for asian grocery... if normal ones... just head to coles or safeway...

in clayton, clayton town is good... or a bit further, springvale...

arghhh... the rental is going up every year... and it's pretty impossible to get a 2 bedroom apartment in the city for that price... near the city, maybe footscray has that price...

SESSHY!! stop cursing me!! i will be very busy soon!! i wont be jobless for that long ok!!

well if you want to compare those buildings with say, Hawken building (building 50) or say Sir James Foot building (47A), then yes, its so much more ancient smile.gif

and did i mention about Wordsmith having the best chips in uni? biggrin.gif

Footscray is rather far just for asian grocery shopping......... I suggest Box Hill (along the Lilydale/Belgrave line), totally chinese area.......

@ Crazynut...... by grocery shopping, I think just any supermarket is good...... for in the city, perhaps you might want to try Victoria market for some fresh foods......

I once heard that Sydney Uni's Great Hall (the big old sandstone building) has leaking roofs and it rained during one of the exams.

mmm take the 776 bus i think go box hill, good enough for you to go boxhill get asian stuff..
to me asian cheapest is still boxhill, springvale or maybe glen waverley you can try..
but price really fixed, everythign goes up this year...no doubt...due to interest rates.

haha yea hawken building is kinda ancient old looking but somehow i kinda like the way it it...seems to give me a factory/plant feeling (erm not really sure how to describe)...well its an engineering buiding and it kinda suits...if a bussiness or law faculty then sure it looks kinda weird.
btw...where Wordsmith?

*burp* Hang on... Do you know where footscray is? It's SO NEAR to the city, only 10 mins... I remember I used to to go the city from Footscray with only ONE SONG... the Leo Ku's Geng Gor Gum Kock... 9mins...

Boxhill is too far... Zone 2 weik... And on the way to Boxhill you will pass by Richmond... Richmond is also a Viet-chinese area...

Hmmm... I didn't compare the price too much, NEAR is the best... Else, wasting time, petrol/ticket... Doesn't save much...

Left Brissie in Dec 2005....and was staying in Toowong. Still miss the river view from my apartment balcony....and basically everything about Brissie, except the weather. Find it too hot for my liking! Sydney's weather is much better.

I know this a very late post, but once you've applied to the ATO for a tax file number, what do you do? Do you have to go to the bank you opened your account, or can u do it online? Do you need proof of identification like passport?

Again, it all depends on where you go and where you live. I'm happy here in Brisbane. The weather, barring last week, is not too different from malaysia. nice and sunny! There are hot periods, and the air is dry, but on the whole its very pleasant.

Then there is the issue on where you stay. I'm staying in a very student, mixed suburb, so its foriegn, but a new experience. "Asian" areas (like Sunnybanks) can provide a small taste of home. But it has its drawbacks. i know some  people here who have been here for 3 years and their English is still terrible!

Cost is another factor. Australia will be cheaper in terms of cost of living (after currency conversation) compared to  the UK, by and large (sydney and to a certain extent, Melbroune is a exception).

Are there any malaysians in Brisbane? There seems to be a lack of them here!
