It depends on you then... I'm not that adventurous myself, and I prefer not too much difference from my normal lifestyle... I think Aus is fine, you can still find some places which are VERY OZ, and also places VERY ASIANZ... So, it's up to you where you wanna go...

I'm still VERY MALAYSIANZ...

Yea, maybe you have to mix with angmohs more... But, I don't like what they are doing, I don't like beer, I don't like footy... Most importantly, I don't like to be as POOR as they are... Different cultures out there...

aussie is fine...i like it becoz i dont really like big big changes to my lifestyle...it is very easy to adapt to the lifestyle here...u dont feel very alienated...i mean u'd still feel very close to home as there are many asians around but u still get to mix with lots of angmohs as well. ..and the weather here suits me malaysian easily...i mean its has lots of sun, beaches and it doesnt get too cold during winter.anyway i think both countries are just great the way there are.

That is called withholding tax.  It is because you didn't apply for a Tax File Number.  So go apply for a Tax File Number from the ATO, then tell the bank your number and they'll give you back your money.
*
I know this a very late post, but once you've applied to the ATO for a tax file number, what do you do? Do you have to go to the bank you opened your account, or can u do it online? Do you need proof of identification like passport?

Again, it all depends on where you go and where you live. I'm happy here in Brisbane. The weather, barring last week, is not too different from malaysia. nice and sunny! There are hot periods, and the air is dry, but on the whole its very pleasant.

Then there is the issue on where you stay. I'm staying in a very student, mixed suburb, so its foriegn, but a new experience. "Asian" areas (like Sunnybanks) can provide a small taste of home. But it has its drawbacks. i know some people here who have been here for 3 years and their English is still terrible!

Cost is another factor. Australia will be cheaper in terms of cost of living (after currency conversation) compared to the UK, by and large (sydney and to a certain extent, Melbroune is a exception).

Are there any malaysians in Brisbane? There seems to be a lack of them here!

Yeah, go to your bank and tell them you've got a TFN, tell them the number and thats it. Don't think you can do it online.

WOW!!!What a location! Anymore room in yr place? tongue.gif

I could use the citycat to get to uni, but usually I use the bus. Since the buses use the southen busway, its quite fast. Bypass all the jams and traffic lights! Usually I either stop at south bank and walk via the goodwill bridge, or terminate just outside the library at Queens square and walk down to QUT.

Hows UQ like? Still havent been to many places. Friends all recommend me to go to SUnnybanks to get some chinese food, but I'm still finding my way around. Got lost trying to find myself to Garden City the other day, believe it or not. sweat.gif

nay. you'd have to get my landlady to kick me out to get my place and believe me, its close to impossible right now hehe

UQ's just like any other uni campus. i wont say that its big for sure as some unis in m'sia are much bigger in terms of land area etc.

yea go to Sunnybank to get asian food is all i can say. there's Yuen's supermarket there if you ever need groceries. there's also Ding Hao supermarket nearby as well, and also Little Taiwan. dont know if the Great Circle Line bus goes to your area but if they do, board it to go to Sunnybank.

Garden City as in the shopping centre or the suburb? if its just the shopping centre, its just a matter of hopping on a bus on the southern busway (the 555 to Logan Hyperdome is one of them IIRC) and getting off at the Garden City stop innit? tongue.gif

well UQ seems large enough to me....ok maybe i havent been to any public uni in malaysia...but when u're late to class and ur lecture is held at one end of the campus u'll think its really large....i think thats because of the lakes and fields that makes the area large..not really the lecture buildings..and btw UQ has 21 tennis courts ( the largest in Queensland) and i really like the standstone buildings in UQ..looks classy...me and my fren is always having a UQ Vs QUT debate as in which uni rocks..hehe..
