you guys posted an extensive deal on your saving program which i believe covers almost everything.

Living in Melbourne is trecherous. I've been surviving on $1200 per month max 4 months prior to December.

Boy oh boy, those boxing days sales was crazy, i nearly forgot conversion was part of my entity

I don't need a iphone. I dont need external speakers for it. I dont even look at a K810. I loose weight by cycling and eating 3 (relatively) square meals a day. I dont get a cap plan. My 3220 does the job well, and with Optus' "bigger and better", $30 gets me through 2 months.

You are so true...I plan to get an ipod but somehow i thought that why do I need one since I can still listen to my mp3s on my K750i handphone ( but need to increase memory storage though). I did not sign up for any cap plans either although with what people said about the free phones etc...I dont talk much on the phone and mostly msn with coursemates...$30 gets me through 2 months as well..Actually still can go on for 2.5 months if not of the expirary date.

p/s : I understand your Himalaya coughindooroopillycough statement...haha coz I live in Indroo...Taringa is even worse....hilly up and down...I solute those people walk up hills to their houses everyday as the bus stops are usually downhills.

ya; it is true; you dont need to get iphone..totally uselesss here..
psp is useful lolx wub.gif sweat.gif

I think for those that plans to have goal in life to save, practicality is definitely an issue in Australia.

All those things mentioned, are wants, not needs

But i reckon if you work part time, it will indeed broaden up the view a bit because it will soon be clear that living a life that we keep converting currency will never work

So. Damn. True. But damn, I'm a guy who can't face reality well.

I think we have some issues with the [quote] tags.

KV, i had 3 full days of shopping in chadstone.

Haya, don't feel ashamed because i believe 90% of us has that damn converting mentality.

Me : OMFG, RM21 for big Mac. I might as well just sell my asss
Me : OMFG, RM25 for a mixed rice with just two dishes, I might as well just save up for a sex exchange and sell myself

Me : OMFG, a zone 1+2 ticket daily cost RM30, please send me back to Malaysia

But truth to be told, earning the money here diminishes all this thoughts and you will once set back to the reality, and if you fly back to Malaysia, you'll start dividing by three and spend more than you have here in Australia

One of my friends said O-week is like useless but who would wanna miss out on all the freebies and balloons and stuff. Lolz.

Lol we would be on the same flight back to Sydney if you are taking MAS.

@Jonathan
Couldn't agree more than that, I can't help but dividing almost everything by 3 after I came back, heck i am finding myself spending more than i ever had before I went over

Haha cool. But it is kinda surprising to see a first year student going there so late though, usually they prefer to go earlier to settle down first before commencing their semester.
What would you be taking for your undergrad?

Chadstone was CRAZY pack. queues were everywhere, couldnt call out or receive incoming call entirely.

I found out that MOST stores have sales throughout late december to early jan, so if you are not in such a rush, avoiding boxing day sales can be done. Stores lke GUESS had 50% storewide, only for boxing day, so just keep a good look out. (I nearly ripped my friend in half because he got this cool looking watch for half the price of what i got a month earlier..hooray)

My couz sis was staying in an apartment near Spencer Street just off DFO. According to her, one of the cheapest, at 190 per week. Thats melbourne rate.

Obviously you don't need to live like a beggar, yet the conversion thingy must be kept in mind for all times. It's way too easy to overspend in Australia as the figures and numbers over there are quite small, hence very attractive for one to wave the cash. Almost everything goes for 1, 2 bucks in markets yet when you add up the total it can reach quite high numbers if you're not careful.

Necessities wise, by all means go ahead and buy them... these are things that you can't afford to be stingy.
Save a dollar a day, and by the end of the month you'll get enough for a movie or even two.

Not everyone can afford to work part time over in Australia, the timetables are freaking crazy (at least mine is).
But if you can find time to earn some spare cash it'll help your wallet a lot.

By the way, some one did mention the high interest savings account... That's a pretty good thing to do. What I normally do is to bank in the tuition fees, leave it alone and don't touch it, and wait for the interest to snowball. One can easily get at least AUD60-100+ (or even more) with a considerable amount of money in these accounts. This alone will contribute a big share towards the weekly food/transport costs.
Of course, you need to be able to bank in a considerable amount of money before you can reap the high interests.
