You need to include in your best 4 for medicine
1. English (Literature+drama)
2. Chemistry
3. Maths 1A/Maths 1B OR Maths 2 OR Physics
4. Any other

You need maths or physics or you can't take medicine. But, maths is easy to score, you should be able to get like 98-100% and chem is also around there. It is literature that usually pulls people down.

all g8 and atn unis...............

avoid the 2nd and 3rd tier unis.............fees are the same, but quality and comsistency may be a problem...........

unless your ter scores sucks..........need at least 94 for g8..........99.5 for sydney and melbourne........... blink.gif

Correct me if i'm wrong, but afaik you cant possibly get a ter score of 100, max is 99.5 or somewhere there.

Correct. The maximum TER score is about 99.99.

The TER scores depends on demand. The higher the demand, the higher the score.

if getting 98-100 is what you perceive as astronomous, wait till you enter uni and find student that still averages this kinda score at the near highest level. Eye poking experience aye i will say.

That is correct. People should note that the entry scores into Australian universities do not reflect the difficulty of the courses nor any other factors. They are purely based on demand and supply. A course offering only 5 places with demand exceeding supply will push the scores up sigificantly. This is a very silly system which is why the universities are pushing for a change towards "bonus points" entry schemes.

Yeah, thats a pretty stupid system and giving a false impression that Aus uni have very low standard if you compare to UK universities.

i do not understand.....how can a uni that takes in students at the top 1% of the cohort (that is what a ter score of 99 means) give a false impression of low standard compared with uk unis where they require only require an "a" which 25% of students will get for any particualr subject?............

Maybe it's just me,if you compare it to good UK uni's entry requirement, they need things like 2-3As to enter engineering while top tier uni need like 12 points which is equivalent to 3Bs(1B for 4 points) or any other combination to enter engineering.Thats for Melbourne Uni and other need even lower.

I makes me feel that as if they are lower standard while they are actually not.

For the health insurance part, you need to pay something call OSHC health care.It basically pays up your medical fees in case you are sick but it doesnt cover stuff like dental.

If your country is at level 2,should shouldn't be much of a problem to process your visa.I heard if you are from country that are in level 3-5,you might need to declare things like how much your parents earn per month and other stuff before you can get your visa.

I dont think you can cover all you fees if you work part time because you are only allowed to work 20 hours per week(unlimited for holidays). You might be able to cover certain part like grocery or rent.

Do correct me if im wrong.

you impression comes from not understanding the oz ter system........

about 25% of students taking a-levels will achieve an A grade. that means, the top 25% of a cohort of students say sitting for physics, will achieve an a grade.

in the oz system, the same top 25% of students will get ter scores between 75-99.95.

that means a-levels A = TER 75-99.5

so if a british uni requires an a grade, the person with the grade could actualy be having an australian equivalent of TER 75 or 99.............

engineering cut offs in melbourne is about 80 or 82................which means some a-levels students with an A grade will NOT be able to get in..........

that is also why more and more UK unis are now depending on further testing and/or interviews to differential the A-grades........those with TER75 from 99..........and also why there is a new A grade, called A-star, denoting a higher level of A grade............

in summary, a levels grades do not discriminate the higher grades well, whereas the oz TER system (and the increasingly recognised IB system) stratify the grades in more detail, ranking students more finely...............

the other point is, you are looking at indicative MINIMUM grades to be accepted, which may be stated as TER 75 and A-levels BBB, but the actual cutoff (which varies year to year, depending on the students who apply) is TER 82 and A-level AAA

I wouldn't recommend 3 science subjects. The 9 hours of practicals is very stressful. You need to prepare in advance for every practical. Chemistry requires you to write-up till the results page, with the tables ready before your practical, while everyone does different practicals in physics each week, so your practical won't be the same as your other friends. So, everyone will be fighting for the demonstrators. I'm nt familiar with bio, so I don't know.

I'm taking both chem, physics, maths 1 and maths 2. And I find the stress especially from the science subjects as a killer.

But, anyway, its up to you really. I'm just advising that you should perhaps swap physics for maths 1 since you said that your maths is not very good. But, with help from the tutors, you can score a good grade. But, once you arrive in Trinity, you can seek advice from the lecturers in charge.

If you want, I'll show you some past year physics papers.
