GWX failed. Force update using WUpdate also failed. Media creation tool failed. A post in Reddit told me to change my language locale to English US. Now the tool is downloading again. If this one also failed later I dont think I have the patience to try any more.

it installed with generic key however since I didn't see option to upgrade from win8.1pro. however, after mashing the windows activation button a few minutes, windows was activated!

this method seems not possible on my alienware r2x14 with the oem win8.1pro keys. the mounted iso installer is asking for a key...

Yup just install it and u can upgrade it to windows 10

that is because u need to upgrade your windows to windows 10 first before clean install it

i had no problem with the upgrade, everything working after i click the windows 10 upgrade button last night

I too have some space eaten up due to unknown reason =.=

The file only 5.55GB but i have more than 10GB extra gone...

i notice some games when u touch not responsive .. like sonic dash

audio for mkv movies also not working for me.

using built-in via hd audio

doesn't seem to be a driver issue. codecs need updating?

Overall ok but My PC becomes very slow when startup. Looking some options to optimize back my startup. Haven't tried on games though

You need to use cclean to remove the some of the unnecessary that windows need to use to upgrade your computer

Upgrade all your drivers and using cclean to remove some files

For those who still have issues, several users reported that setting their time forward (to the First of August for example) and then doing the above steps again helped them resolve the issue.

Manage to upgrade my Win 8.1 to Win 10 via USB (upgrade, not clean format installation)

and I have to say, it runs smoother than expected but I guess I was fortunate enough to have friends telling me to update one particular patch before upgrading.

and then I heard about nvidia drivers having crash issue, so I downloaded the WHQL version and a modded version which I found from guru3d forum.

Tested with WHQL version first. Everything goes smoothly, tested a couple of games before I hit the sack. Heroes of Newerth is working well (in fact, it performs poorly in 8.1) and as well as Heroes of the Storm.

Will play with Win 10 more when I got back tonight

Those wh[ face error while usong windows update..please use windows 10 download tool as mentioned. It will point out what is the exact error and you can resolve it before upgrade.

Do we actually need the $Windows.~BT in the hidden file after upgrade?. Taking a lot of space

i have deleted the "Windows.old" folder...hopefully no problem occur.

did you use the mediacreationtool from microsoft?

i got mine from here and downloaded the ISO and also created a bootable USB from it.

at the moment, since i just upgraded (not clean install)


- Bluetooth seems to have issues (can still auto download drivers from windows)
- gaming gamepads that are non xbox that uses 3rd party mappers (i use input mapper) will not work properly, especially those using bluetooh. Not sure why, despite i'm using cable)
- printer issues (this one's given)
- colour calibration (doesn't retain the colour settings from what's been set up in windows 8.1, its somehow reset, and by default when reset the colour looks weird)
