Hi guys, im wondering if im using the w10 preview
Once the w10 launch on 29 july, do i need to reinstall the whole os? Or just get a licence key and update?

Thanks in advance
*
no you don't need to reinstall the whole os. afaik it's an upgrade-only option on existing running os. if you have a legit key (w7 or above), you can use it to upgrade for free.

QUOTE(delsoo @ Jun 12 2015, 01:54 PM)
will non-genuine win7 user get the free update too ?
*
no.

Thank you so much.. however i don't have a legit key for w7/w8/w8.1
but i wanna get the w10 key. so I can just get the win10 preview, then when they launch, i just purchase a licence key and do a simple update right?

maybe it's about priority i think. actually if the machine has installed kb3035583 from windows updates, the notifier is already there.

not sure. all we know by now is the free upgrade from older os. from what i have read there is nothing yet about updating from old os with a w10 key.

finally. the development for w10 has entered the stage of rtm escrow as reported by wzor on 15 june 2015. (source: http://news.softpedia.com/news/Windows-10-...s-484282.shtml)

following the trends of previous os developments, if you don't wanna deal with left-over bugs, incompatible drivers, etc. which will be fixed mostly by windows updates and respective manufacturers some times later, it's better to give a time frame of few months before you upgrade. of course if you have tested the os via insider program and found nothing in the way, your computer is all set.

legit w7/8.x users get free upgrade within the free offer period of 1 year. after that period, yes you need to buy key.

If original key, just update your windows via windows update and wait till you get a box to reserve a window 10 free upgrade

Can't agree more - when I run PC check Windows 10 cannot be run on my PC as the OEM has yet to release compatible driver for their customized GPU. No choice but have to wait n fingers crossed they update the driver within the 1 year foc timeframe

yes. note that if the pc oem doesn't provide working drivers officially, you can still get latest ones from respective parts manufacturers. i think any parts that are within 3 years old are still good to get working driver supports.

I contacted the GPU manufacturer but they commented that the OEM has customized the GPU hence the manufacturer won't be able to provide the latest driver. I contacted the OEM and they advised to wait for their update of the driver. I can only fingers crossed that they will b able to update by 29/07/16. Too bad sweat.gif

there are parts that we usually grab drivers directly from parts manufacturers (e.g. intel chipset, rst, gpu, audio, etc.) actually i find the comment of the gpu manufacturer weird. (maybe they meant something else) all this while it's common that we get latest gpu drivers from, say, nvidia directly. i bet no one get them from oem like zotac, asus, msi, etc.
