I think the upgrade produced some problems, I cannot run any desktop softwares via start menu (it comes out nothing) unless I type in the search bar and start from there.

Wait for next month's update then I'll start fresh.
*
My win/start button does not work at all and the search bar also did not work. Since it's my principally gaming pc and I'm using the build to check what games work and what not I made it the main OS.

Any known fix ? Some guy suggested that only a clean reinstall can fix it.

never use a tech preview as main os :/ we all know it's full of bugs. using it as main os means your chances of stepping into one of them are much higher, and not many know how to fix it. (especially for gaming, even official windows versions we have crashes here and there, due to various reasons. I don't expect them to work fine magically in previews at this stage)

there is no guarantee that it will work, but you can try this: http://microsoft-news.com/facing-issues-wi...ng-these-steps/
*
I know but I'm listing which games work and which not and since there's nothing else really important I do with the pc then why not. smile.gif

One thing for sure until now I can't run Shogun 2, Rome Total War (haven't tested Medieval 2 though), Mount and Blade Warband and X-COM doesn't work for me. Luckily Skyrim, Rome II and Attila works fine.

I think my build is 10049 iirc. It works fine before but then yesterday when my kid was watching youtube my wife told me that suddenly the monitor went blank with 'no signal' or something and I thought maybe my GPU fried again.

However when I got home and replugged everything everything works fine, except that windows start button. Cause me a bit of a problem though since I'm just the one who don't like having icons on desktop. smile.gif

Just made a clean reinstallation of 10074 (format drive, install win 7 and upgrade to win 10074). Found of the the desktop experience is much smoother than previous version (maybe formatting the hd did the trick too ?). Shogun 2 and M&B warband now working though Shogun 2 got 'windows has stopped working' error upon quitting the game. Not sure if recurrent as haven't tested the second time.

In any case, it takes quite a while to load and a lot more longer than even win 7. I did not time them but I think it's 3 times longer than my usual windows 7 loading. Hope it will not be the same when the retail version comes out later. I did uninstall some programs that I don't need and I do hope when the real thing came out I will have the option only to install what I need (don't bloody need windows 10 to tell me what's the weather is like outside, really).

In any case, my early verdict is that I may done good to myself sticking to win7 and waiting for win 10 rather than upgrade to win 8 when it came out earlier.

I will do a game benchmark later though I'm not sure if the OS have any actual effect since my last benchmark since the game has been patched and new gfx driver released too since I made my last benchmarks.

indeed. the desktop experience is relatively better. however it really depends on who is using it. for os fresh installs in older computers, i think it will be smooth. my test machine is almost 3 years old. there are no significant issues so far.

i doubt that games we have these days can leverage on dx12 yet. also, with background stuff collecting user data it's kind of taxing also. to have better gaming experience, it's better to stick to current os.
*
Yeah. for serious usage currently then better to stick with win 7 or win 8. Me on the other hand since there nothing important on the pc anyway (besides my games which I only play on weekends) there's no issue with trying them. smile.gif

At least I got to do my part in helping which games work and which don't. tongue.gif

Any idea whether we got to try dx12 before the real thing comes out ?

One thing though, since I already been using(free) avira I found out that I cannot run windows defender at the same time using windows 10, unlike windows 7 where I can run both at the same time. Is it something new with the new OS where no 2 AV can be run at the same time ?

i am running build 10125 now. it's quite buggy. so far there is no news about start menu fix. i have tried the old tricks but they didn't work. (powershell and start menu removal)

there is a rumor saying that rtm will be available in july or august this year.
*
I guess I will try to reinstall a clean 10122 if I can manage to get me an ssd this week.

Nope, I'm trying all sorts of solutions except clean install. If I do clean install, how will my license from Windows 8.1 be transferred over when RTM is available? I worried won't be able to get windows 10 RTM if clean install.
*
I think, even with a clean new install (without formatting) it will copy first your existing installation data etc. That was what happened when I did a new installation for 10074 from the previous version.

Finally the auto patch to 10122 happened last night. It's still buggy a bit for me (the start menu) but I've heard that's because AMD driver issue ?

I'm getting pop up box error when shutting down the pc. Forgot to note down what it says but just clicking the ok box the pc can shut down properly. It's something about a program can't be closed or something.

Anyone having similar thing ?

i think you might wanna report this. however it might also be a debugging thing running in the background.

it's just weird that in my case i don't need to wait for anything tbh.
*
I will check if this recurring. If it's debugging I don't think it will be for that long.

in my case it's recurring. (it's something about memory cannot be read) the dialog was closed before i could click on it.

never had this before in previous builds.
*
It hangs for me. Need to click the close button. Yeah. It's about memory and also the system can't close some explorer.exe or something. Forgot to take the screenshot since I was a bit of a hurry this morning.

just don't bother about it. i doubt it will be there when the final release is here.

by the way to bring up settings, all you need is win+i.
*
Yup. Hopefully we'll get to see the RTM version soon. Any ideas when ?

Any new updates last night or something ? That memory error is gone when I shut down the pc this morning.

Rome Total War still not working though but when I check the error it says no directx9 found.

So I have the icon below for me to reserve for windows 10 quite long go. Haven't go and reserve it yet, when will be the official release and should I start reserve for it now? Will it affect malfunction in gaming wise ? Opinions please tq.

Depends on games you play but basically what works with win7 and win8 will work with win10

Some of my games works better than my win7.

I'm using the free avira but now since 10162 I always get this 'you have no AV activated' or something. Anyone have this ? When I try to activate windows defender it always says that I have an AV already running.

When I check the task manager I find my Avira is already running but the icon did not come out in the taskbar anymore.

Do I need to upgrade RAM from 4GB to 8GB for Windows 10 64bit?
My desptop is AMD Llano, without external display card.
I just use my computer for document jobs, Photoshop, facebook games and HD movies.

Many thanks

I'm still using 4GB for my desktop. I do not have photoshop though (which needs a lot of memories I believe) but the rest I think you can survive with 4GB except you do a lot of multitakings as the same time.
