i just completed a clean install with the iso linked above.

everything is good, except for a slight stuttering (short freeze) during boot. this machine didn't have that with build 10240.

I updated my win 8.1 SL (original win 8 SL) to win 10 Home SL. However, I go clean install using the Microsoft Media Creation Tool and format the drive before install. Now the window cannot activated because it is Window 10 Home now. Any advice? doh.gif

there is no home sl in media creation tool yet i think. the last time i checked it's 10 and 10 N only.

edit: you still can get the sl version from techbench. https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/techbench

nice.

if the previous w10 is running fine in your system, then the upgrade is pretty simple. it starts with getting the right w10 version that matches your current os hehe

it means you have completed the w10 free upgrade successfully, and ms server has a record of your device.

the next time you do a clean install, your device will be activated automatically when it's online by contacting the ms activation server.

So last night another miracle happened. After failing to backup to secondary hard disk the critical/improtant data I gambled and import the OS using Paragon Migrate OS 4.0 paid version to spanking new unformatted SSD. It detected the ssd and I opt for full partition usage and select files for import. Before that I defragged the OS on hdd for a few times.

My mistake during the file selection I forgot o exclude 8gb pagefile and during the long selecting process I fell asleep. I woke up the PC was off and I started to see a message from the Paragon soft that the import/migration has been completed. Rebooting into BIOS, selecting boot priority to ssd then it booted to desktop. Opened the file explorer, the ssd now became c: and there's a new partition has been created on hdd which is the original OS partition on hdd. Wow looks like the migration ftb was successful.

Shaved 30secs if compared booting from hdd, like 35 secs or so to boot from ssd. Loading excel files is damn fast.

right. ssd is always recommended today, at least as boot and application drive. for common usage, a sata ssd will do the job pretty decently in general.

w10 has already supported pcie nvme ssd technology natively. (well, maybe it's too much for home use)

Is it me or Windows resets back your date format and setting toggles in action center to default on every update?
