QUOTE(dares @ Sep 23 2014, 11:03 PM)
I spent so many years in KL liao....last time I went back Ipoh makan, I hear the tauke say 50sen "五chian"....I stunned for a while  shakehead.gif
*
My unker² still using traditional word, call it 五錢. Sound like ng5 cin4. According to older generation, when they were "shipped" here during the cultural revelation, they have no idea how to value Malayan currency. Hence, they straight named the 50cents coin as a WEIGHT instead of actual currency phase value. For example:

在武曌亲自监工之下,就在耀州工坊铸造的五钱重的银币

However though, back than Canto fellas are the more lansi fellas, most profession now known as RUNNER, those eat brain fellas that work less, no proper job, but get to earn a decent living due to PANAI(pandai in Malay) CHAT HAI and got skill to deal with the Brits. Most Canto fellas are happily earning their own race money in Ipoh and never leave the town. The Hakkah fellas are usually the tauke of milling work, business owner, Cainis tabib that open medicine shop, tin miner that makes good moolah, but when go to town had to search for a Canto fella, give the canto fella 50cents to help bank in lar, pay bills lar, do all the admin work. So the Hakkah fella will usually say something like:

五 錢 比 開 你 還 唔 幫 我 同 而 只 死 紅 毛 鬼 喊 佢 去 食 屎
Hmm Chian Bin Hoi Ngee Han Hmm Bong Ngai Tong Eh Zhak Si Fung Mao Gui Gong Ham Gee Hee Sit See
Translate: 50cents ady given to you, still not helping me to ask the redhead(calling the Brits back then) go eat crap

From there, the Canto fellas in Ipoh started to adapt their Hakkah boss calling it as CHIAN instead of CIN. Originally, the Hainanese fellas also very pure, but there's just too many Hakkah & Canto fellas going to their shop to drink kopi and eat, so the Hainan fellas also call it CIAN ady doh.gif

Another interesting fact if you keen to know. Have you ever wonder why they call it 五錢, but when ask how much that time will use 幾多looi? Because the LOOI came from our local Malay call it DUIT, and where DUIT came from? DUTCH laugh.gif Supposed to be BERAPA WANG! Not BERAPA DUIT! DUIT is a foreign language. The Belanda bring in their own DUIT(refer WIKI please). And surprisingly, when I check with my Hongkee fren, our Canto dictionary indeed got 鐳 leoi4 recorded as(money/currency). Then only realize, yes HongKong was once filled with Orang Belanda as well, so as Indonesia.

As for 5 bucks, in Ipoh still widely calling 5蚊. Whereas most of other places calling 5 kaw, thanks to the Hokkien influence. 五塊GOH KOH. Then the other fellas try to use it but broken jor, ended up HMM KAW ady doh.gif

Interesting eh laugh.gif

I'm a new Proton owner and new here so please be gentle, I just had to make a first post sometime.
I don't have a SV but mine's a FLX CVT but I'm curious about the EBD? I think it's the traction control thing that has many names around the world, my FLX has a button on the console and lights on the instruments but I've yet to have any success getting the button to light a lamp, I can't help but feel it doesn't actually exist on mine, but it's not something that's important to me.

What I have noticed about the car already is it sits very nicely on the road, I love the way it steers, probably the Lotus influence, I hope others like it too. Also I can't help but think the CVT *is* the transmission of the future and offers naturally the smooth gear changes other transmissions are constantly trying to improve. The SAT button on mine was used once then retired as what's the point of using a retro setting that I wanted to get away from?

Another pic of the V-bar. It is a simple stamped metal sheet, I don't think it'll take much force to bend it. Replace with 3max RSB better.

SV Confirm no ABS. All new Saga (SV, Standard, Exec, SE) comes with the V-bar and 3-point middle seatbelts now.

So, jiu kambing along anot jek rolleyes.gif
Ipoh guy rite? Pls go tapau salted bake chiken plis nod.gif
So, ayam gonna gib u a list of stuff that a EXEC version has, whereas SV doesn't. I will add in the estimated cost of UPGRADE

1) 14" Alloy wheel
sv) 13" rim kompang(buy from tayar shop, trade in the original 13" immediately after got out of factory would cost RM400)

2) Quality coil floor mat with Plotong Thundercat logo.
sv) Ultra thin fabric floor mat(buy original from Plotong cost RM120, or go Tesco buy without logo would cost RM29)

3) Boot lamp
sv) Tarak, not even wire(Add boot lamp at accessories shop RM50, DIY less than RM20, prolly looks better than EXEC stock lamps)
» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

4) Muffler tip
sv) Tarak (go five gold shop buy 6" diameter x 3" long stainless steel pipe for RM8. Drill a hole and screw it on. Walauweh! +100horse powah! If normal tip go add at exhaust shop, RM80)

5) ABS
sv) Tarak (To add up, will cost roughly around 4k, also depending whether the mech is competitive to do so)

6) Boot handler, door open lever came with paint that matches body color
sv) Black original plastic color (Get it painted at shops would cost RM100, DIY RM5 for all 4 doors and rear boot handler)

7) Kosong on the left side of the boot lid
sv) Got a huge SV logo on the left side of the boot lid (scrape it off if you don't want. Before that, come forum make an offer, god knows you get to sell it for a price if you're lucky)

8) CD player with USB/Auxiliary input
sv) Tarak (The ranjiao Clarion if you wish to buy from Plotong, it would cost you RM1500. Better go for after market, probably below RM300 ady got good quality)

9) Steering column audio control
sv) Tarak (but if upgraded after market below RM300 player ady got remote control, if die die want original steering control, can lar + RM250 from Plotong part)

10) Cushion fabric seat
sv) Some said it's thinner, I don't know I find them the same (go to used car dealer find an EXEC version, offer tauke a price to exchange your NEW seat with the old EXEC seat, may be like RM200)

11) Stock tint that can bubble in a year or 2 later
sv) Go ask for DaBestOne for RM180 nia icon_idea.gif

You decide la. If you ask me, SV is a damn good deal as I get to choose what I need to add in. But the only drawback is always about the ABS, as original factory fitted ABS are always the best balanced system and well tested in controlled environment.
You get light weight, not even 1 air bag was in the car whistling.gif
Your boot handler got paint ady, SV dun hab whistling.gif
You don't need to bear with the SV logo people laugh at whistling.gif

EBD got no access externally. It's originally equipped together with the ABS system. Safe to said, if you don't have an ABS, you don't have an EBD. That vinkas helps to distribute the brake force equally by assessing the driving environment. For example if the driver side of the road is lower than the passenger side, the brake distribution will automatically put more force on the passenger side to prevent during braking the car skid to the driver side.

All Plotong GaGas FLX Exec/SE came with ABS/EBD.

If your stock wheels is this 1, then you have ABS/EBD

Hope this help nod.gif And yes, the steering, the entire dashboard design, the suspensions are mostly injected with LOTUS DNA, not to mentioned the engine block was 1 of the LOTUS race car's power plant. Ayam glad you enjoy the car as much as most of us do. May I have 1 question? nod.gif

Where you get the awesome metal gear stick? biggrin.gif
*
I made it myself from machining. It's a long stick type. I made it to clear my high tigh support on my recaro as with my short ralliart gear knob when shifting it kacau with the side support so making shifting difficult when I use the bucket seat. On normal days I'm using stock seat so I change swap back to the ralliart. The long stick shift also reduce the distance between steering so better shifting and also can shift more easily with less effort. I'm not using short shift.

After much puzzlement I think your question is about a Toyota Vios, which has the Yaris variant available here in Australia, sorry I didn't mention that but Proton is not an enormous seller here. Anyway I bought the FLX because of features and price but the kicker was opening the bonnet and seeing a lovely open engine bay, since I always do my own servicing that was nice.

Mine has ABS, or at least has the plumbing unit for it, hopefully I'll never need to trigger it. It also has leather interior, CVT and the 1.6 engine. For $2000 more I could buy a base model Yaris with a manual transmission.

What?! U r in Oz?! Sorry for the foul language tongue.gif

And yes, u have our dream SAGA! The Oz spec is the highest range, which not available in Malaysia.

Good choice in getting the FLX+. It was widely compared a VIOS(Yaris) in Malaysia with the GaGa despite the price is huge difference. Forget about the spec, people in this land are more brand concious then FACT. Hence it became a standard practice to ask newbies on their decision in getting a GaGa instead of a Vios(Yaris) laugh.gif

Welcome and enjoy the stay. I will pay attention & try to use proper Engrish English
