He is always a one-footed pony, his left foot is totally useless. Not to mention that his early years in the BPL, defenders are not accustomed to his 'trick' but over the years, defenders are able to read his game easily. If you push Valencia to his left foot, you won't see anything else from him other than shifting it to his right and you know what happens next 

This is basically a 2-3-2-3, a fancy version of the WM formation that teams used to use before World War Two. Van Gaal is using history to make United seem innovative. Sort of like how Apple are pretending that watches are a new thing. And just like Van Gaal’s tactics, once all the bugs are worked out and the battery life is decent it’ll probably actually be pretty good.

In my lovely eyes, Daley Blind made the biggest difference for United. His role as the anchorman just in front of the defence saw him act as a third defender and a third midfielder at the same time. THE SAME TIME.

His position meant that he was always available for a pass, and always in the right place to clear up any mistakes or loose passes.

The stability in the team this brings is enormous. If you ever play 5-a-side, which I do badly, you’ll notice that the team who wins usually has the best defender – or at least one guy who’s always available at the back. The strangest thing about it is this player has a massive impact over the game without even touching the ball. By filling the gaps where players would like to run into, opponents don’t pass the ball there.

By simply standing in a place that player eliminates the danger completely and is also in a position to receive a pass if a teammate runs into trouble.

For United, Blind was always in space. His time spent on the ball was minimal but as soon as a defender moved forward he assumed that position, and when they moved forward he acted as a middleman for the wide players to return to. He could prove to be the silent hero for Louis Van Gaal this year.
