HI All Sifu-s and apprentices.

I would like to replace my old laptop with a new one once Win 10 launched. My old laptop is HP Pavilion dm3 with an AMD dualcore processor (@@). It's been almost 5 years old.

1. Preferred Brand - MSI?? or any other but not HP and Acer.
2. Budget - Can up to 5-6k
3. Usage - Minimal Gaming, Entertaiment, Heavy usage of software that consume the "CPU usage"?
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - 15"
5. Some requirement - Full HD, keyboard with backlit, Lightweight

One I would like to clarify is, I wish the new laptop wont hang / lag on me. I prefer to buy a new one with all high spec that I might not be using but at least wont lag and hang at the critical moment.

Please advice.

Thanks all Sifu-s

The thinkpad e-series (E440) comes with VGA.
around 2.5k for basic spec and the only thing i would suggest upgrading is the ram for the stuffs she would be doing.

Most academic institution still uses VGA after all.

Hello guys, I have a desktop but my house is 1 hour away from campus. So I need a powerful enough laptop do my my maya work at the campus.

Would love recommendations for:

1. Preferred Brand: Anything but Acer

2. Budget: Rm3000 - RM4000 (RM5000 max if have too)

3. Usage : Mainly Maya (like modeling, animating), photoshop

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15 and above

5. Additional requirement
- good aftersales service
- Reasonable cooling system (Dont want for it to go overheat after using it for just 5 minute lol)

I'm not that familiar with laptop powerful enough for Maya. I went and check the recommended laptop for Maya by Autodesk and the cheapest is around RM5k+ at least

http://kampungtoys.com/2014/06/18/dell-mal...le-workstation/

I'm not looking for the best but I'm looking something decent enough to do my work and spend as much time as I can at the campus.

Do let me know. Thank you.

Hey Roscha,

For CorelDraw and Photoshop it's more reliant on the processor than GPU for performance correct?

Suggest you shop around for something with an Intel i7 GPU that meets your requirements.

Alot of designers are also checking out the GS60 2PL GHOST from MSI. RM4,899 with 15'6in screen in a slim and stylish Mg-Li body
http://my.msi.com/product/nb/GS60-2PL-Ghos...o-specification

Saw that they also have a gold edition with 4k display but price is crazy at RM7,999 (cause using latest 970M graphic card) sweat.gif
You won't need that imho as you can also have 4k output to external displays with the GS60 2PL
