ya salary will go up faster this way. If u remain in the same co, yer salary will be at snail space increasing at a 10% max per year if u r lucky.
So if u r a freshie earning 2k per month.....in 10 years time, your salary baru around 4-5k at the 10% rate.

i used to enjoy ~20% yearly... but i'm tired of working....

It's not really just about the salary factor. I'm getting quite good increments (steady 25% - 30% per anum)

After a few years in the same line, you might feel the urge to step out and try some other newer frontiers. Stick to it, and your exposure on the IT industry might not grow that wide.

I'm giving myself another few months before switching my career. Well, I'll be up for grabs soon!

If 20% and no stay back late everyday, consider very good leh
Gua average 7% shj yearly, smart liao..mgr...1st year give low, second year give high, 3 year give low. (At least can hold 3 years)

Its not the salary factor....but its impt. Sometimes when u work so hard and salary like shit will make u feel even worse. Work like dog, but salary the lowest.

Then again, true...i just threw away a very good paying job for a huge paycut!, nearly haf my salary. Salary is not impt. Its wat u value most. True True True. Working for salary is only temp. I got tired too...of a high salary but no life job not to mention BORING.....

it's not about salary, it's about what you can contribute to the company and the knowledge you get in return... i dun like what i'm doing because the management will always thorw something which other people don't want to do, to me. making me feel like dbkl but if i think another way, i always benefits from the experience and i'm the expert when doing knowledge transfer to my replacement as i will no longer doing daily task. Until then, i feel like i'm consultant hehehe...

ya manz..being the dbkl is the worst thing.....
and yeaps..gaining knowledge most impt in a job. Else everyone will be evolving except yourself....not growing and getting lazier by the sec!! yucks...totally hate tat.

As a consolation, being the DBKL gives you the chance to learn up a lot more. In the end, you stand to benefit.

I'm lucky to be in a company that has yet to establish a real 'organised' structure. As a result, I get to play the role or web programmer, business logic tier programmer, DBA (Oracle), system designer, and sometimes, the role of business consultant.

I heard from some ex-colleagues that in more established companies, if you are given the job as a web developer, that's exacly what you'll be doing every 9-6, Mon-Fri. Not many opportunities to explore other fields, but you get to be very good in that specific area.

After working in my current company for a year plus, today I just tender my resignation letter !

But in my opinion, changing jobs too frequent isn't that good. Your future employers might not be convinced to hire a person whom like to hop around too frequent.

I changed mine after 6months....few days before they hand me my confirmation letter. Now in Oil and gas.

I agree some company would gives higher increment to avoid employee being hired by other company and leak of company information. But not all post are that important, and not many company able to pay that much resulting still many company paying low increment.

As for me, I am looking for higher pay and better position always until it reach my requirement. My planning is to take a degree while working so I need a job that have pretty nice salary plus enough freedom for me

I'm working as a consultant in a MNC which is a telco vendor. My job tasks are very much to the business side and haven't been able to touch much on unix shell scripts, oracle pl/sql and other technical thingy (which is the responsibility of technical guys in my company)

It can be good and bad. I've dropped my technical skills substantially, but at the same time I've gained more exposure (customer facing, problem solving, get chance to travel overseas for project and whatnot). Other than that working in established company gives me decent salary, good benefits and nice working environment.

I forsee myself changing to another company (probably telco operator) in another 2 years. But anything can happen...

sometime it is not only salary, the thing you wanna learn is one of the factor that cause you to move on. Sometimes you hop to other company because of wanna learn new technology.
