Hi guys I've been following this thread and I'm really really interested in the Suprima S right now. I have never own a Proton before, but the general perception of Proton being Proton is hitting me hard. All thanks to the Proton bashers and the general public. Though my father had a few Protons God knows how long ago, but I was too young to be bothered.

I currently drive a Myvi 1.5 and contrary to the general perception, Perodua ain't that great either. It has a few quirky mechanical problems here and there. They still persist until today despite sending it in a few times to the SC for ratification. I finally gave up after almost 3 years.
I test drove my friend's Saga BLM and Persona before and I just love how a Proton rides and handle. The Lotus inspired handling as marketed is no empty promise I would say. I even dare say that the Persona just performs so well at the corners, that it's comparable or perhaps even better than my father's F30 3 Series.

So I believe all in all that the Suprima S will not fail in this department.
So I really need to know about the QC, reliability and performance as according to your real world ownership experience out there. I checked out the car and yes the plastic is "cheap" as many would say. But bear in mind that most cars today are plastic anyways. The current gen BMWs have lots of plastic and with that suffers from rattling noise as well.
Forget about the all the other cars in the same price range, all except for the new Honda Jazz and Ford Fiesta. But the Suprima S is on top of my list right now. I just want a car which is fun to drive and yet reliable. I don't really care about brand perception, so what if I drive a Proton. But the truth is we always have to compromise one thing for another. So it's up to you guys to help me seal the deal! I'm going to be stuck with either of these cars for at least 5 years before I can even consider changing car, so I need to make a wise choice here.
I would recommend you test drive it. A test drive is worth a million words.
Prior to my purchase of SS, I test drive Polo Sedan, the new Honda City and SS. My choice is SS. After few months driving it, I can conclude:-
Good points to note:
1.Superb handling - good suspension system - class leading.
2.Good pickup.
3. Segment C car - so it is significantly bigger in space compared to B segment cars.
4. Touch wood - engine no problem, smooth pickup till now.
5. Full specs - paddle shifter, forward sensor, 7" HU, reserve camera, auto cruise, 6 airbags, auto wiper, auto headlamp, full leather seats...the list goes on.
6. ANCAP and ASEAN CAP 5 stars rating - not many cars with such rating in Malaysia.
7. Smooth gear changes - CVT but you are still in control because of paddle shifter, for spirited drive.
8. 3 years free service, 5 years warranty - so this will take care of your worries.
Down points.
1. Engine sound slightly louder than competitor.
2. Petrol consumption - a bit higher - mine is at 12L/100km for urban driving.
(Driving at highway - very economical - can go down to 5 to 6 L/100km at around 90 to 110 km/h.)
3. Boot - cannot open by one press using remote control. I think this is a design problem - hard to fix.
(though you can open it via the driver door panel)
