For event, you might wanna try 135 f2 or 85mm f1.8.Both budget and gooding lens around 100mm range.

QUOTE(teikboon @ Dec 15 2015, 09:01 PM) Depends on what you are shooting more.Portraiture and indoor events = 85mm f1.8 Best of both world, macro and portraiture = 100mm f2.8 Both 85 and 100 has lighting fast USM. I used to combo 85 and 135 for shooting low-light events last time. |

The slightly wider and lighter 50 is ideal for street photography. If you want something lighter you might wanna give 40mm f2.8 a try. Instantly convert your dslr into Canon G series like prosumer camera. |

I guess either 35 or 50 depends on the person, a fellow photographer prefer 35mm fov for street shooting while i prefer 50mmIf you want something lighter you might wanna give 40mm f2.8 a try. Played with friends 7d (not mark 2) and can see hw solid and heavy compared to my 6d |

I owned both 85mm f1.8 and 100mm f2.8 Both are excellent lenses but I sold off the 85mm f1.8 and kept the 100mm f2.8 This is simply because 100mm and 85mm are pretty close, i don't use f/1.8 and 100mm has macro. Those are among my favorite EF lenses. So my primes were 50mm and 100mm. |

QUOTE(goldfries @ Dec 16 2015, 10:52 PM) teikboon the above. I used to have 85 1.8 but I feel it was quite similar to my existing 50 1.4 with only more zoom in. Was thinking of 100 f/2 coz it more zoom in but again, I was thinking that will I ever utilise it often other than going outside when I need some reaches? Considering the 100 2.8 now because with it, i can try macro photography and when outside, f2.8 is more than enough to get fast shutter speed in aperture priority mode.I owned both 85mm f1.8 and 100mm f2.8 Both are excellent lenses but I sold off the 85mm f1.8 and kept the 100mm f2.8 This is simply because 100mm and 85mm are pretty close, i don't use f/1.8 and 100mm has macro. Haha. IMHO, with 30mm you can somehow emulate 50mm by getting close to your subject. 50mm can do the reverse of course, but sometime you can only go back so far. One of my favorite lens. The range is just nice for teh tarik sessions where you don't need to step back for a shot. The 1.4 gives you creameh yummeh bokeh. QUOTE(g88 @ Dec 17 2015, 10:45 AM) Not neccessary all must be F1.2 or F1.4 lenses....e.g 135 F2 is darn hell of the great lens It depends on what you are shooting. If you constantly need to shoot in dark indoor area, having huge aperture lenses helps a heap. f1.2 helps to isolate your subject from the busy background, leading the viewers eyes straight to the subject at first glance. |
