Anyone here has experience with sigma 85mm f1.4 before? Planning to get one for portrait usage but reviews said that the autofocus isn't that good. If so, using it on my eos m with contrast detection autofocus will improve the accuracy or not?

Side questions, since I am looking for a good lens for portrait with big aperture, is there any other lens to recommend? Budget between 1k-2k.

Yeah I notice that, used a 50mm f1.8 on the M last week, autofocus speed was a lot faster than my expectation, almost on par with my 550d, more importantly is its quite accurate. Any suggestions to the lens choice BTW?

Hi guys, recently managed to found a 5D on sale. The condition is almost perfect (out look), but when i ask the seller about the shutter count, he says 5D can't check since it's an old camera? Is it true?

The 10-18 is the best choice if you are doing video since it has IS. Not to mention it has better IQ than the sigma for sure and lower price.

btw, it's sigma 10-20 right? by 10-22 it should be canon.

the canon 10-18 is one of the best value lens canon ever made i think. for rm900 brand new, there's not much to ask anymore with that performance.

budget? all of the cameras listed above are capable of doing what you wanted to do.

If you want to save the fuss of upgrading so fast, the 70D might be a better choice. For example I started photography around 3 years ago, but after 1 year learning, I feel a little limited by the 550D already because of the small grip and not so good high ISO performance. cons of the 70D compared to 600d/700d level camera is the heavier weight, larger size, more complicated interface because of buttons everywhere and the higher price. the autofocus, build quality, live view autofocus (focusing using screen) and better controls (more buttons as said previously, depends on you like it or not).

still you can get awesome pictures even from a basic camera, just that it will be harder for a basic camera and easier for a better camera.

already cropped 22mm can't get a lot of details

Well I got my first dslr 3 years ago. Asked a lot people regrading which camera to get during that time. End up choosing between the Sony a57, Nikon d5100 and canon 550D/600D.

When I go to the shop, the salesman recommended me canon instead of sony and nikon, so end up getting it since I am newbie that time and don't have much knowledge.

Didn't regret choosing Canon system actually, albeit the super loud shutter, slow burst rate and bad dynamic range (for my 550D at least), it's still a good system. even a cheap 550D served me well for 3 years already without any fail or malfunction.

And talking about user friendly, I don't think Nikon stand any chance against Canon in this aspect. Used my friend's d3200, d5200 and few more entry level Nikons, the user interface is so bad. You have to press another button to go inside the menu (like the Q button on canon) then scroll around to get what you want to adjust. With canon you have the 4 direction keybad which serves as 4 shortcut keys already then 1 dedicated ISO button. all of these made adjusting settings really easy.

Canon have relatively cheaper lens too compared to other manufacturer. From cheap kit lens to higher end lens, a lot of them are cheaper than the nikon/ sony equivalent.

Too bad Canon didn't make a well designed mirrorless like Sony, if not I would never consider to leave this system. Sometimes DSLRs are really hard to bring around.

yeah, same case here. End up returning back the camera, totally lose interest haha.

Anyone notice the drop of price for the Canon 24-70 f4L? Before it was selling around 3k, now just around 2.2k, checked few shops all of them are selling around that price.

Super good value for that price

still haven't buy it yet. But the main factor i would consider it over the 24-105 is the 0.70x macro reproduction.

That's like having a good quality 24-70 f4 IS L and a 80mm f4 IS L macro lens together
