Guys why now no more switch to turn off 3G?
Sometimes when my 3G signal is bad I need to turn it off so that it drops to Edge but now I can't anymore. Previously can turn off. |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Apr 5 2015, 08:46 AM) Guys why now no more switch to turn off 3G? Because the minimum now is 3G (iPhone 5 and above). Sometimes when my 3G signal is bad I need to turn it off so that it drops to Edge but now I can't anymore. Previously can turn off. Now the only option is Enable LTE (4G). If you feel that the signal is weak, just turn off cellular data to conserve battery. |

If you feel that the signal is weak, just turn off cellular data to conserve battery. 3G is not the minimum. It can drop to Edge or GPRS automatically but I want to switch it manually because sometimes Edge is faster than a low signal 3G. And it's not about which model iphone. My iphone 5 using iOS 7 can switch off 3G This post has been edited by idoblu: Apr 5 2015, 09:04 PM |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Apr 5 2015, 09:03 PM) I need it to drop to Edge, not about conserving power. What I am trying to tell you is, 3G is the minimum you can MANUALLY set your current data speed. 3G is not the minimum. It can drop to Edge or GPRS automatically but I want to switch it manually because sometimes Edge is faster than a low signal 3G. And it's not about which model iphone. My iphone 5 using iOS 7 can switch off 3G iphone 5 onwards has LTE chip embedded therefore you can only set between LTE on or off and MANUALLY set to 3G as the MINIMUM on most of the carriers in Malaysia. Your connection drops from 3G to 2G is because your cellular carrier does not have 3G connectivity coverage in that particular area or zone / weak 3G reception that is why your connection dropped from 3G to 2G. Of course if the connection frequently switches between 3G and 2G will drain your phone battery significantly, which is why I suggested that you turn off your cellular data to conserve battery. Of course it is about phone models. iPhone 4/4s does not have a LTE chip embedded therefore you can set from 3G to 2G/EDGE. iPhone 5 onwards has LTE chip embedded therefore you can only set between LTE on or off and MANUALLY set to 3G as the MINIMUM. QUOTE(andrewtho @ Apr 5 2015, 09:41 PM) I understand perfectly of the question that you are asking, it is you who do not understand what I am trying to explain to you. If you bother to read and digest what I am explaining, you would probably get it by now. no you dont understand what I am asking. 1. i am not concern with battery consumption 2. i want to manually disable 3g so it can switch to anything lower than 3g and you can do this with iphone 5 and 5s. BUT if you upgrade to iOS8 on the 5, you can no longer switch off 3G |

QUOTE(idoblu @ Apr 5 2015, 09:49 PM) no you dont understand what I am asking. iOS8.1 was supposed to be updated with the 2G, 3G option for iPhones but only certain carrier has that option. As far as I know, Maxis does not provide that option, even with iOS7. I'm running on iOS8.2 at the moment and there is still no option to go below 3G. So it all depends on your carrier.1. i am not concern with battery consumption 2. i want to manually disable 3g so it can switch to anything lower than 3g and you can do this with iphone 5 and 5s. There is no option anymore without using 3g in ios 8 and above. Only jailbroken iphone can have that which to change to 2g. |
