The purpose of the set top box is precisely that - to enable everyone without a digital tuner to continue watching TV when analog broadcast is turned off.

Can my LG Smart TV with DVB-T tuner tune in/scan for DVB-T2 Channels by 2015? I bought mine way back in 2010 before DVB-T2 was available (2011).
If no then guess that I'll have to purchase a set-top box then.
Anyway, hurrah for getting those less fortunate to get coverage first (Northern States Peninsular and Sabah & Sarawak). All this while most areas in Klang Valley enjoy the extra FTA Channels. A good move by the government so to say (I am not pro government or pro opposition but always will laud for things that benefit the rakyat).

I am afraid NO. DVB-T2 capable for both but DVB-T can't go for T2 reception. Ideology same as microsoft word 2013 can open .docx & doc file but microsoft word 2000 can only open .doc extension but not .docx

If you did get BR1M previously, they will give the DVB-T2 STB alongside with next BR1M giving. But it's a 50-50 chance. (Which is suppose on Jan '15).

Thanks for both reply. No chance for BR1M but if the price range for STB is below RM200 then should be ok as some people were willing to purchase the illegal Skybox/Openbox/Dreambox for more than that amount. Hopefully they'll give a tax incentive for that purchase.
