highly compressed, so definitely watching from the original bluray is definitely better. But in terms of anime, sometimes the subs are not as good as fansubs, not to mention wear and tear for using the discs themselves. Also takes too much space if you rip the direct quality from the disc. So for a better balance compression is used. I guess it's up to the user what they would be more comfortable with. Fansubbing/encoding is an art so i leave it to the pros to do it on my behalf. Much nicer to stream digital media from my home QNAP NAS rather than using my actual physical discs all the time
i was an early adopter for lcd. Got the Dell 2405 FPW when it first came out, and that cost a bomb. These days can get a good premium ah-ips for half the price that i paid
but yeah you are right, 4k is more suited for a higher resolution screen, or more accurately a bigger '' size monitor.
Problem is that if most of your content is dvd, 720p and 1080p, it could prove problematic going to a higher resolution, because you lose the sharpness of your video the more you have to upscale to fit the resolution. Then again i have no experience testing a 27'', 31'' or higher for my pc gaming/anime, so not sure how much of an issue in quality this could pose. Maybe it's not too a big deal
I prefer 1920x1200 because i get more working space in apps, games, desktop etc. Also the taller black bars don't really bother me when viewing 1920x1080 (aka 1080p) content. This is on a 24'' screen which to me is more suitable for such content.
For early adopter for 4k, there is the Eizo highend 27'' monitor i saw which could downscale 4k content to work on a lower resolution
http://www.eizo.co.uk/EIZO-ColorEdge-CG276...-for-4Kx2K.htmlBut whatever monitor you get, i suggest viewing the video content using HC-MPC + Madvr + reclock + lavfilters + XySubFilter
http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=516729https://imouto.my/madvr/i do agree with the quality of anime for fansubs vs discs. personally, ive encountered purchased ones that have rather horrible translation, to the point its annoying. at least the fansubs are good enough
i really feel sad for people who got hyped for 4K yet watches DVD resolution videos on it... thats really sad
as for image quality, depending on how good is the upscale i guess. for example, animes. some are upscaled very very well, while some are just no diff (most anime are made in 720p not 1080p)
im using MPC-HC with KCP (LavFilter, Madvr etc) for movies/animes. previously use VLC but VLC likes to throw in a sort of sepia filter

and they dont do upscales very well
MPC-HC fixes it for my case
