Yeah that's exactly my opinion. I already ordered the AW2725DW when it went live. No point waiting for the LG even if some of its features might make it marginally better. That warranty alone decides where my money goes. I think reading up on the last two pages the only LG and Dell offer burn in warranty in Malaysia. Please correct me if I am wrong.
edit: been using the AW2725DW for a bit now. spectacular.
myway1985 used to be and probably still is a one man business but he's very nice and helpful. He tried to help me with another monitor a few years ago. His price on the 32" above is even lower than what a kind Dell sales assistant quoted to me (they offered exactly 7% discount for that model).
How much is the AW2725DW after discount?
MSI honestly have a better feature set but I rather have better warranty
sagethesausage I paid just over 3.3k on launch day.
I was also willing to at least wait for the MSI pricing before committing... However, as MSI didn't confirm burn in warranty coverage though, there was no point doing so.

MSI already confirmed the burn in warranty now.
I would still go to Alienware. Haha, because firmware upgrade..
Hi sifus, plan to help a friend to buy a new pc. With i5 12400f and rtx 3660 12gb, should he go for 144hz or above monitor for 1080p gaming? He mainly like to play call of duty type of game (first person shooter and ocassionally third person) and also will be using the pc for adobe illustrator. Below are some option.
Need to ask AOC lol.. really cheap if can sell even slightly higher than US MSRP
well i went with a MSI MAG 274QRF QD E2 since that is what's in stock there are a lot more cheaper monitors than this but it's within my budget. probably fake HDR *no local dimming. But other than that nitpick, should be fine

well, if want to go cheaper there still quite a few options. 24'' 1080p, can even spend less. but my budget is higher so i'm going midrange like this MSI.
If my budget was double, i could have gotten this instead, for a Alienware AW2725DF 360Hz QD-OLED (for sale on shopee)

Haha, saving up for this beauty.
Still gaming on a 2008 LG 24 fullHD IPS 75 hertz😂
🤤

actually i can afford to buy the alienware, but i really don't want to spend at that price. It's definitely good but i rather wait for a better deal. So buy this MSI now, then maybe in 10 years time the OLED gaming monitor prices would have dropped to something similar by then.
2008 hm. well a monitor usually lasts roughly 10 years. So unless you have an issue with yours, you can use it for now.
Your situation does sound quite similar to mine. But because of dying monitor i have to replace. Otherwise i would have rather waited for the oled gaming monitor prices to drop further first.
my Dell U2413, has some sort of issue with the power. Hard to turn on unless spamming the power on button a couple of times. So that's why i'm replacing it. Not to mention 60hz in this day and age is a bit unacceptable and i see at least 1 deadpixel at the very bottom (barely noticeable). Anyway overall the monitor is dying more or less so needs to be replaced
previous lcd monitors i've owned here Dell and HP so far. Now i'm trying this MSI which is more of a gamers type of lcd, compared to my previous monitors that felt like an office monitor

Hehe, luckily ma monitor still working if not like you already bite the bullet with mid end monitors.
So far so good. Touch wood 😝
Yea quite pricey but meh slowly save up and buy later once they fix some issues. Not interested in being a lab rat for the first release haah

actually my first lcd monitor a dell 2405 fpw i bought when it just came out. by todays standards it is hardly the best. point is bought it at a premium price, then few year later it was half price. that's why i don't want to pay for this high price right lesson learned.
the msi not perfect, but at this price not bad. the aoc va with local dimming with actual hdr looks very tempting at that price, but have to risk whether can stand the va issues, not to mention i didn't see availability here either. i asked aoc they themselves don't even know
anyway it got shipped so i might expect it sooner
shipping protection cost me rm110. i'm assuming this means they won't just toss it around roughly handling during shipping i hope. since it's covered by shipping protection. but yeah if you buy off shopee expect to be charged for that. some shops they accept self collection.

Shipping I don't trust them to handle with care.
I will self collect
Price actually drop so I dont mind and will use a long time.

unfortunately i don't have the time sadly, due to other things going on right now.

i was reading one users comment, they said they put the monitor ontop beside their gate on the wall. so dangerous.....
last time when i ordered a HP and Dell, they sent a huge truck to deliver it. All my monitors that arrived this way had no issues. Not saying there won't be, but seeing that it's delivery insured should be ok (also paid for extra bubble wrap though i doubt this would be much safer)... but i will be sure to test rigorously

not an expert, but for 2024 i would recommend 27'' 180hz 1440p resolution rapid ips monitor (at this price range they will not have local dimming or true HDR). premium models are 240hz and above (these also tend to be qd oleds, which are awesome for gaming, hdr, but of course very expensive)
firstly you should tell us your budget, hard to recommend anything without knowing that. you did say you wanted 24'', but i suggested 27'' which cost more, but you yourself did not clarify exactly what your budget is, so.....
example, the one i recommend as a baseline is already considered mid range (RM 1100-1500 price point). It's not the cheapest, but it's not the most expensive either. The more premium models (e.g. Alienware AW2725DF QD-OLED on shopee is RM3,530) cost about double of what i am recommending. Premium models are like 3k and higher.
If you want to spend half of the midrange price, there are 24'' 1080p ips options out there if you want, if you are fine with that. Basically you get 24'' 1080p resolution vs 27'' 1440p (you will also likely have lower refresh rates roughly 120hz-160hz)
But for 2024 i wouldn't want to settle for that, but up to you. Some people may think that is good enough especially when they are on a very tight budget, so no problem with that if that is your priority.
For the most budget HDR with mini led, there is a VA monitor, the AOC Q27G3XMN which seems very good value. Roughly about the same price as the midrange models with the specs i mentioned. But VA has some cons inherent to that panel technology such as BAD viewing angles. Meaning you have to be viewing directly in front of your monitor since it's what it can only handle for viewing. There may also be some black smearing due the VA not known to be as fast as IPS e.g. when moving crosshair in fps gaming. But for HDR with mini led backlight for budget, doesn't seem anything that beats it in this category. That said i couldn't find availability for this.
The monitor i went for was the MSI MAG 274QRF QD E2 which is roughly around Rm1400
you can watch some recommendations from some good reviewers like here
back to the AOC Q27G3XMN recommendation, you can try see when it's available here. no luck here so i went for the MSI

notes: just to reclarify, the MSI MAG 274QRF QD E2 does not have nvidia gsync, nor does it have amd freesync. However it has adaptive sync which is pretty much the same thing, just that the manufacturer did not opt to add the marketing branding for it gsync/freesync. But for a 2023 released monitor (adaptive sync), it should work for either nvidia (gsync)/amd (freesync) graphics card. In this example i am using a nvidia graphics card, a pretty old one at that, a 1080gtx, but although it says not a gsync certified monitor, you can still add it and it will still work in adaptive sync mode. I verified this by adding it into nvidia control panel as per screenshot, then in windows 11, and also on the monitor itself. Lastly inside the game e.g. apex legends vsync adaptive enabled)
i don't have a 3060.
I have a 1080 GTX.
Yes the monitor arrived and i have set it up.
though in the display information in windows 11, it says it's "microstep MAG274Q QD E2"
but on the box it shows "MAG274Q QD E2". Also when i register at msi website using serial, it does indeed show as "MAG274Q QD E2". so yes i got the correct monitor.
It arrived in good condition. I did a range of tests. No dead pixels in different color backgrounds. Backlight bleed very minimal, might have spotted slight bleed middle far right, barely noticeable.
Overall no issues.
Yes adaptive sync and 180hz both works on an old Nvidia 1080 GTX. I went here and enabled it. Although it says NOT CERTIFIED, but according to the youtuber, it will still work after i applied. In the monitor i also enabled it there as well for the adaptive sync. In windows 11, monitor and nvidia control panel, made sure that 180hz is also enabled.
that said, this gpu the 1080 GTX might not be enough for 1440p 180hz ..... also keep in mind i'm using an AMD 5600X cpu.
So i ordered a new AMD RX 7800 XT which should arrive in a few days time. So i will be testing using that graphics which is a 2023 release model. With the AMD graphics card, ray tracing won't be good, won't get the benefits of DLSS (stuff which amd fails to compete against Nvidia). That said, the AMD RX 7800 XT is better value for money than the Nvidia gpus for 1440p which is the sad truth in this current overpriced gpu market. I haven't used an AMD radeon graphics in years, so i'm making the switch back from Nvidia to AMD for now
This is the graphics card model i am getting
This monitor also shows as manufactured 2023.
For setting up the monitor i used this
I also tested the monitor with the help of these useful sites
in summary, i upgraded to the MSI monitor, and now a new graphics card (switching from Nvidia to AMD, because no good bargains for 1440p gpu from the Nvidia side. Best i could do was a RX 7800 XT which is within my budget)
i spent quite enough for now, so i won't be upgrading the cpu, so i will make do. But i will check if it's limited by cpu or not (you can tell, because if the gpu usage is anywhere below 90% utilization, then it's likely the cpu is not good enough (aka the cpu is bottlenecking fps) and is making you lose fps gains)
I don't have a colorimeter, and i didn't adjust the brightness, or colors. I merely set it to HDR to test. Later i switched to sRGB as recommended by the youtube reviewer. There is no actual reviews for this model, so i used this which is probably the closest as a reference when changing the settings.
yes you can watch anime 10bit with this monitor and it does indeed go 180hz
*keep in mind its 8bit + frc (to get 10bit. so it's not native 10bit, but that is ok, since rarely any are).
testing it under sRGB to watch youtube, watch some anime, played some apex legends, it's good.
Apex legends at 1440p 27'' 180hz adaptive sync (i moved from a 1080p 24'' 60hz), the difference is night and day It even felt like i can aim and shooter better with the new monitor in apex legends. You seriously won't regret going with this resolution and specs for this monitor model.
FPS with apex legend was 70-110. So i have to wait for the new graphics card and hope that improves
If i want to nitpick, it's the fact it's not true HDR. It doesn't have local dimming. but at this price point, we expected this already.
At this price point the only one that offered good HDR with local dimming is the AOC Q27G3XMN 27" which is a VA panel tech, but i did not see availability for this. Never tested in person, but based on reviews, they said the HDR and local dimming is surprisingly good at this midrange budget price which is hard to beat currently.
So the other option was go all out for a premium oled gaming monitor to get perfect gaming + hdr experience. But i didn't want to pay at those prices.
Having used this new MSI, i don't regret my choice. Even though i know it falls short of HDR, i'm still fine with it especially with what i paid for it
If i had to sum it up, TN panel tech is bad (not worth considering. if that's all you can afford, no judgement here, but i think there are some good budget ips options available these days if you can settle for 24'' 1080p), VA also not great (only few exceptions like the AOC might be worth considering despite some of the inherent VA cons that come with it depending on the price), IPS gaming monitors are well balanced in terms of value and quality (not perfect by any means but it's whats good for the price), Oled gaming monitors is probably the best but they come at premium prices (you get what you pay for).
response time i set to fast. When i used the alien ufo test i did not see overshoot for 180hz, it was pretty good. No i did not use MSRPT. I don't use enhancements either (read this makes quality worse if u use it)
for modes, so far i like premium color and sRGB.
Premium color is very vibrant colors. It's most likely not accurate, and if i was to compare it to something, it would be how those UHDTVs in the showrooms all look vibrantly colorful and beautiful. Basically that (and probably not color accurate, but it does wow you).
sRGB is more toned down, and is most likely to be closest to color accuracy. I don't have a colorimeter so i can't 100% confirm this, but it's based on my experience having calibrated a previous monitor using a colorimeter before (which sadly is not compatible with newer lcd monitors )
you can adjust the HDR setting here
example when i startup apex legend, it reminds me to enable auto HDR if i want to play HDR in apex legends.
tried gaming but fps issues. 1080gtx is sus. so hope new gpu fixes it
managed to get apex legend playable by using the directx 12, and lowering some setttings, but, the fps is not great for a monitor that deserves better. that's why i'm dumping the old 1080gtx to upgrade to something worthy of it
for like stable 60fps using the 1080gtx, no problem. but if you want higher fps then you should upgrade.
i didn't go as far as adjusting colors or brightness. just seem fine to me out the box.
pro mode - sRGB
gaming mode - premium color
hdr - i tried both on and off
adaptive sync enabled
for apex legends i was using msi afterburner and RTSS to get an idea what issues it may be having
^totally agreed with this. 1440p 180hz is good but u have to buy the parts that go with it (graphics card, and possibly even cpu depending). don't think i can go back to 1080p 24'' 60hz (just to clarify it's still cheaper than if you had gone 4k resolution, since those graphics cards for that are like RM 5-6k + )
Just so you know with Gsync you need to force Vsync on through Nvidia control panel, limit frame rate by at least 3 fps below refresh rate and make sure in-game Vsync is turned off. Here is the link to Blur Busters that explains Gsync.
*further testing does seem to be some stutter. trying to test what is the issue tbh though 1080gtx is too slow, so i need to replace this first. waiting for new graphics card to arrive

was trying to use DDU to do a clean install for nvidia drivers for testing, ended up monitor couldn't detect graphics card.
So i remove the motherboard cmos for 5minutes, and also removed the graphics card physically also 5minutes, reinstalled them, but still wouldn't display on monitor.
Then i noted the error code in bios, indicating a device preventing loading.
This apparently was the MSI usb connection to the desktop. So if you encounter this issue, try removing the usb cable that connects the monitor to the desktop. You can re-add it back at a later date.
Now it works. Reinstalled nvidia drivers, reconfigured the settings, and now testing again using a clean driver install with the latest drivers.
*other considerations.
Had i gone down the Gigabyte M27Q-P 27" route, it would have ergonomic issue not being able to swivel the monitor (while troubleshooting i had to do a lot of this). That would probably be annoying so don't feel to bad not going gigabyte. if the price was good, might have considered it though.
*update
tested using apex legend using these settings
this guy uses a 1080 TI, mine is non TI. but he also uses same cpu as me.
The results was better after i had done clean reinstall using DDU. Still testing.
It tries to sneakily install norton anti virus. It does this many times. at this point it feels like malware or close to it still finding out how to stop this from poping up on each reboot. Might have to uninstall msi Center if there is no option.
msi driver utility installer, do not use it. this is the one tries to get norton installed. msi center as well
