If not mistaken MAG 32 or 49 can upgrade firmware. Others then no.

we're talking about MAG 321UPX here. MSI released 3 variants, MAG 321UPX, MPG 321URX and MEG 321URX. currently MAG and MPG are available in NA and EU. MAG 321UPX confirmed by MSI themselves, got no firmware update. MPG (and most likely MEG as well) has firmware updates.

MAG = lowest tier, MPG = middle tier, MEG = highest tier

Does anyone here own one of the new rapid VA monitors that MSI has released recently? Or a rapid VA monitor from any manufacturer? Heard it's as fast as a TN panel without all the ghosting and smearing that a normal VA panel has.

I'm looking to buy a 1440P monitor with a budget of about rm 1.2k. I'm interested in the new AOC mini LED monitor but it's not available here, and for whatever reason, Koorui and Innocn monitors aren't available in Malaysia either. Which is a shame, since they have some good monitors. Right now I'm torn between the LG 27GR75Q and MSI MAG274QRF-QD E2. I might be able to get the MSI monitor for less than the retail price on Lazada during the birthday sale, but the LG monitor is cheaper.

Will have Raya promo price?
Please do let me know because right now, after extensive research, AW3225QF seems to be my 1st choice to purchase.

Going to use it later with PS5 Pro (coming end of year?). So if i do purchase the monitor earlier, i will have to settle with my aging ps4 pro first. biggrin.gif

Other than that, my usage is 70% productivity (word, excel, web browsing, netflix) & 30% ps5 console gaming.

i don't have a 3060.

I have a 1080 GTX.

Yes the monitor arrived and i have set it up.
though in the display information in windows 11, it says it's "microstep MAG274Q QD E2"

but on the box it shows "MAG274Q QD E2". Also when i register at msi website using serial, it does indeed show as "MAG274Q QD E2". so yes i got the correct monitor.

It arrived in good condition. I did a range of tests. No dead pixels in different color backgrounds. Backlight bleed very minimal, might have spotted slight bleed middle far right, barely noticeable.

Overall no issues.
Yes adaptive sync and 180hz both works on an old Nvidia 1080 GTX. I went here and enabled it. Although it says NOT CERTIFIED, but according to the youtuber, it will still work after i applied. In the monitor i also enabled it there as well for the adaptive sync. In windows 11, monitor and nvidia control panel, made sure that 180hz is also enabled.

that said, this gpu the 1080 GTX might not be enough for 1440p 180hz ..... also keep in mind i'm using an AMD 5600X cpu.

So i ordered a new AMD RX 7800 XT which should arrive in a few days time. So i will be testing using that graphics which is a 2023 release model. With the AMD graphics card, ray tracing won't be good, won't get the benefits of DLSS (stuff which amd fails to compete against Nvidia). That said, the AMD RX 7800 XT is better value for money than the Nvidia gpus for 1440p which is the sad truth in this current overpriced gpu market. I haven't used an AMD radeon graphics in years, so i'm making the switch back from Nvidia to AMD for now  devil.gif

This is the graphics card model i am getting

This monitor also shows as manufactured 2023.
For setting up the monitor i used this

I also tested the monitor with the help of these useful sites

https://www.eizo.be/monitor-test/

https://www.testufo.com/
can test VRR here
https://www.testufo.com/vrr
in summary, i upgraded to the MSI monitor, and now a new graphics card (switching from Nvidia to AMD, because no good bargains for 1440p gpu from the Nvidia side. Best i could do was a RX 7800 XT which is within my budget)
i spent quite enough for now, so i won't be upgrading the cpu, so i will make do. But i will check if it's limited by cpu or not (you can tell, because if the gpu usage is anywhere below 90% utilization, then it's likely the cpu is not good enough (aka the cpu is bottlenecking fps) and is making you lose fps gains)
I don't have a colorimeter, and i didn't adjust the brightness, or colors. I merely set it to HDR to test. Later i switched to sRGB as recommended by the youtube reviewer. There is no actual reviews for this model, so i used this which is probably the closest as a reference when changing the settings.

yes you can watch anime 10bit with this monitor and it does indeed go 180hz
user posted image

*keep in mind its 8bit + frc (to get 10bit. so it's not native 10bit, but that is ok, since rarely any are).
testing it under sRGB to watch youtube, watch some anime, played some apex legends, it's good.
When you use 10 bit on this monitor, does it reduce the refresh rate to 120Hz?

Apex legends at 1440p 27'' 180hz  adaptive sync (i moved from a 1080p 24'' 60hz), the difference is night and day  icon_idea.gif  It even felt like i can aim and shooter better with the new monitor in apex legends. You seriously won't regret going with this resolution and specs for this monitor model.

FPS with apex legend was 70-110. So i have to wait for the new graphics card and hope that improves  sweat.gif
If i want to nitpick, it's the fact it's not true HDR. It doesn't have local dimming. but at this price point, we expected this already.
At this price point the only one that offered good HDR with local dimming is the AOC Q27G3XMN 27" which is a VA panel tech, but i did not see availability for this. Never tested in person, but based on reviews, they said the HDR and local dimming is surprisingly good at this midrange budget price which is hard to beat currently.

So the other option was go all out for a premium oled gaming monitor to get perfect gaming + hdr experience. But i didn't want to pay at those prices.
Having used this new MSI, i don't regret my choice. Even though i know it falls short of HDR, i'm still fine with it especially with what i paid for it  nod.gif

If i had to sum it up, TN panel tech is bad (not worth considering. if that's all you can afford, no judgement here, but i think there are some good budget ips options available these days if you can settle for 24'' 1080p), VA also not great (only few exceptions like the AOC might be worth considering despite some of the inherent VA cons that come with it depending on the price), IPS gaming monitors are well balanced in terms of value and quality (not perfect by any means but it's whats good for the price), Oled gaming monitors is probably the best but they come at premium prices (you get what you pay for).
response time i set to fast. When i used the alien ufo test i did not see overshoot for 180hz, it was pretty good. No i did not use MSRPT. I don't use enhancements either (read this makes quality worse if u use it)
for modes, so far i like premium color and sRGB.

Premium color is very vibrant colors. It's most likely not accurate, and if i was to compare it to something, it would be how those UHDTVs in the showrooms all look vibrantly colorful and beautiful. Basically that (and probably not color accurate, but it does wow you).

sRGB is more toned down, and is most likely to be closest to color accuracy. I don't have a colorimeter so i can't 100% confirm this, but it's based on my experience having calibrated a previous monitor using a colorimeter before (which sadly is not compatible with newer lcd monitors  bye.gif  )
you can adjust the HDR setting here

user posted image

example when i startup apex legend, it reminds me to enable auto HDR if i want to play HDR in apex legends.

tried gaming but fps issues. 1080gtx is sus. so hope new gpu fixes it  hmm.gif

managed to get apex legend playable by using the directx 12, and lowering some setttings, but, the fps is not great for a monitor that deserves better. that's why i'm dumping the old 1080gtx to upgrade to something worthy of it  sweat.gif

for like stable 60fps using the 1080gtx, no problem. but if you want higher fps then you should upgrade.

https://history-computer.com/fps-vs-refresh-rate/
to setup the monitor i used this guide

i didn't go as far as adjusting colors or brightness. just seem fine to me out the box.

pro mode - sRGB

gaming mode - premium color

hdr - i tried both on and off

adaptive sync enabled
for apex legends i was using msi afterburner and RTSS to get an idea what issues it may be having

^totally agreed with this. 1440p 180hz is good but u have to buy the parts that go with it (graphics card, and possibly even cpu depending).  don't think i can go back to 1080p 24'' 60hz  rolleyes.gif (just to clarify it's still cheaper than if you had gone 4k resolution, since those graphics cards for that are like RM 5-6k +  puke.gif  )

https://www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/...ync_compatible/

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XlwirtWs_c
*further testing does seem to be some stutter. trying to test what is the issue  hmm.gif  tbh though 1080gtx is too slow, so i need to replace this first. waiting for new graphics card to arrive

hi guys looking for a monitor recommendation.

usage:
- work
- movies
- basically general purpose
- NO gaming*
must have:
- screen size 32 or 34 inch (honestly unsure if i want an ultrawide)
- ips (va wasnt as nice to look at back in the day, not sure if its better these days)
nice to have:
- nice colors
- hdr10
- stand that has height adjust (dont want a clamp on my desk)
- i assume resolution qhd is sufficient for a 32 inch?
budget:
- 1-2k

am not sure if my wants are realistic given the budget.
and theres so many models i cannot make heads or tails within each brand lol. these are a few that stood out to me

DELL P3421W, S3221QS (whats the 3rd and 4th digits refer to? the generation?)

BENQ GW3290QT (this thing is kinda interesting)

LG
34WR50QC
32UR500 (this thing is very cheap, 4k with hdr10, whats the catch?)
lg another one, cannot brain how the model naming works

you could get LG C3 55" for RM7k+
i think only US you could get the deal which makes sense, even the supposed cheapest MSI is going for RM6k+ here.
aw3225qf is the best deal you could get in MY.
fyi i am using now, and its pretty good for hdr contents and games
