I don't think the HG G-Self being bad was intentional. I think the G-Self is just too detailed of a design to be properly represented in the HG line. Considering how much hatred of the model kit market Tomino has, this is hardly a surprise.

but bandai already advanced the joints starting from 00 and forward, but degraded when it comes to g-self series?
