Unless I'm mistaken, Rodgers has been given a war chest of $30 million nett and if we can recoup some funds from the sale of players, the figure goes up to $60 million. Competition for the player will be tough though with clubs like Man Utd willing to spend big to get back in the game. Their $27 million pound bid for Luke Shaw is proof of this. The Southampton left-back is only 18 and they are prepared to make him the highest paid teenager in domestic history with an offer said to be around $100,000 pounds per week over 5 years. Of course when you don't have Champions League football, you often need to spend a little more.

I think we can lure many exciting players to join us next season with the exciting football we played last season. With CL, i think we have an upper hand here. I not much worry about the competitors such as Spurs, MU and others regarding compete with us to sign some good players. We need to look at our weak link last season which is our defense especially our full backs. Not good in defend and not good in attacking either. DM and a good striker we must look at too.

Toure is kinda lousy imo. Every mistakes he made, he'll become demotivated immediately. Remember the mistakes he made earlier in the season? His form and concentration immediately faded. He looks like an old man sitting on the bench reading morning newspaper. We need players who can rebound immediately from their mistakes. As for Skrtel, he's good at scoring goals for both sides. It's dangerous when your defenders score as much own goals as his goals for the team. It's vry costly. I don't think we need Johnson with Flano emerging. Johnson is on a 100k a week and imagine how much talent we can use that for. Wisdom is 21 so he's still ok. Kelly is a decent backup considering his low weekly wages.

Offload Johnson after world cup for 10-15mil, Reina 10mil, Aspas 3mil, Toure 5-7mil, Skrtel 10mil = 38-45mil.  Together with the 60mil warchest we have, should be around 100 mil.

Buy Marshall, heard around 6mil, Caulker 8mil, Lallana 20mil, Reus 25mil, another striker around 20mil. Here we go, 80mil only. Another 20 for maybe Mascherano (9m), and a LB around 11m. Wala good deal.

You are very optimistic in terms of selling our players with that kind of amount of money. Johnson to get 10 - 15 million despite his age? And Toure for that money when we got him free? I reckon we only can get 50% out of the money you mentioned except for Skrtel.

I thought BR getting 60mil pounds warchest nett?
*
You may be right I don't know. Better if you are of course.

I think we need to be more realistic with what we can get for our players. Johnson and Reina may fetch between 7-10 mil given their age.

How long is Toure's contract? 5 is being optimistic. I reckon 3 tops.

Reina has a release clause of 4.5mil so that the best we can get from him.

While Toure contract end in 2015.

One thing for sure I know is that we wont have to worried about Tottenham fishing our player away next season whistling.gif

Here's what I've been thinking looking at our current squad:

Strikers: As most have mentioned, I think we need a strong backup for SAS. Aspas doesn't cut it and Borini, well, he's done really well at Sunderland, but he failed to impress during his stint at Anfield. I'm in favor of selling Borini to Sunderland and Aspas back to Spain and perhaps picking up another highly rated star who'll seamless slot in to SAS so we can rotate. Edit: Lukaku anyone?

Attacking Midfield/Wingers: We've all been really impressed with the ability of Couts and Sterling, though I think this is an area we need to bolster up on as well. Coutinho can look out of sorts and Sterling is of course still young. Wishful thinking, but perhaps 1 or 2 major names like Shaqiri, De Maria or even Griezmann would add a lot of weight here. It's sad that this season we've only been able to call Allen or Moses as subs in this area. I know Lallana is rated highly, but I'm not completely sold on him.

DM/CM: Unfortunately I don't think Lucas or Allen cut it. We should look to sell, despite how well they've performed for us. Stevie G is of course a mainstay, and Henderson is great in this role. The news of us going for Masch or William Carvalho is certainly good, though i'm not sure how good the latter is. Masch though, I'd be extremely happy to have him back. He was part of what will always be in my mind one of the greatest midfields we've ever had in recent times. Of course adding Alonso would be a plus tongue.gif. But he's getting old already.

Defense and goalie Goalie first. Yes, we should sign a good backup so we can do what City and United did during the season, drop Mignolet and force him to compete. For sentimental reasons I'd like Reina to stay for this purpose, but I think he's set on leaving. I don't think the second goalie should be a priority though. Centre backs, I honestly don;t think we need anyone else. Perhaps drop Toure and get Ilori back or something, but what we need is more leadership at the back. Perhaps reinstate Agger? He does seem to carry leadership well. For RB and LB positions, I'm in agreement with everyone that we need to bolster them. But I don't exactly know who will fulfill these roles well.

From soccernet:
"Rumblings out of Barcelona suggest some player shake-ups regardless of the outcome in La Liga's title chase. In a report in The Mirror, Javier Mascherano hinted he's open to a return to Liverpool, where he last played in 2010.

The 29-year-old would be available for 9 million pounds, and a move makes sense as the Argentine doesn't seem to fit into Barca's plans anymore. Mascherano hinted in the report that the season-ender vs. Atleti "could be the last for many [Barca] players." Napoli is another team interested in Mascherano's services."

9M? Sign sign!!!

Wow, Rafa is also up for Masch. This could be tough as Rafa has a very big influence on his career.

I don't really mind if we are not in CL, always like him.
But since we are challenging CL and PL, I doubt Kuyt can contribute anything.

I don't think can offload Johnson at 10~15 million considered his age
Same with Reina, don't think can more than 6~7 mil. As buying club will know, the player is a surplus, so buyer has upper hand, somemore Reina is not young anymore.

Somemore, Liv selling record mostly not getting good deal from offloading players, may be except one or two deal only.

Plenty of so called report claimed Pepe has a release clause of 4 Mil only though i am not sure why it is that low. There are many clubs that are desperate for reliable keeper and we shoot our own foot with such stupid clause. For me he is worth at least 10 Mil. Whoever that set this clause shall be hang to death doh.gif

Good player but he's injury prone and not young anymore. He might demand a high wage.

It's all relative in the end. When Spurs signed Hugo Lloris for example, he was 25 and he was already established as France's no. 1 with his future still ahead of him. The fee was around $10 million with future benefits if he were to be sold to another club. Mignolet was a prized goalkeeper after being voted Player of the Season for Sunderland, producing several MOM performances and we signed him for $9 million. Reina isn't Spain's no. 1 and he's already 31, at the peak of his ability and thus, I reckon we'll be fortunate to receive an offer for $10 million.
