Wat does investment portfolio diversification means? Hard to define.

- Allocate the money evenly into stock mkt, money mkt, trust fund, property, gold etc?
- Only invest in stock market but allocate the funds into different sectors?
- Only invest in stock market but covers local and overseas mkt?
- Putting money in various type of currencies account?
- Only invest in Unit trust but park the monies with different fund managers?
- Solely in Property investment but :-
A) Dfferent sectors?
B) Long term rental play and short term capital gain?
C) Local + overseas mkt?
D) Different product category?
etc

All the above are a practice of diversification to me.  cool.gif

Lectureres in mys don't have the opportunity to apply their brain in finance.

You and I will never find out. Just like you think flippers with no holding power accounts for 10% or more in the market will never be found out
*
Flippers by default don't hold their property for long especially earlier acquisition as they need $ to buy more. Hence, few flippers still hold properties pre 2010.

QUOTE(Showtime747 @ May 16 2014, 06:26 PM)
That is exactly why the economists will not get rich in malaysia. And why DDD will forever waiting for the perfect weather before they set sail  tongue.gif

At least ddd will not bankrupt during distress period. As economy is never straight line, there will be load of opportunity for ddd. Historically, many millionaires were made when uuu and bbb are in distress not during bull run. Few millionaire made during bull run survive at the end. Hence fewer than 1% of adults are worth over $1m.

You set the "default" ? Looks like you set a lot of your own assumption which leads you to conclude the market will 100% fall. Even if for the past 5-6 years, all the "defaults" you set have been proven dead wrong. The market still standing until now

Again all your assumptions - "millionaires were made when uuu and bbb in distress....", "few millionaires made during bull run survive at the end...". Your thought is too extreme. There are money to be made during good or bad times. 1 thing is for sure about millionaires - they have the courage to take bold steps. Not like DDD all balls-less who only wait for perfect weather to sail or all 10 traffic lights to turn green before they move. If you don't take risk, of course you won't bankrupt. At the same time, you also don't expect to become millionaire lah tongue.gif

I put my money also in stock market, FDs, forex, corporate bonds, unit trust. Local overseas all got. Stock market is good also UUU now. Got many categories too. Blue chips, penny stocks, goreng stock, warrants etc. Choose good dividend stock if you want high yield or reits also very good returns. But usually these stock capital appreciation is lesser.

Sound like previously invest in property is guarantee fat return some more is risk free. After another bull run, the so call 1% with more than 1 mil will become only less than 0.01% have more than 1 mil.

Agree. Have been "discussing" with bro iceman for some time. With all due respect, I think his character is not suitable to do property and other higher risk investment. Too conservative and risk averse. Also quite negative and pessimistic, only see the half glass of water as half empty. If he force himself to invest, don't think he can sleep well at night.

More suited to those FDs, low risk unit trust, or investment link insurance type of vehicle.
