It's okay yewlin...i'm more interested in hmpk right now, so i'll most prorably eye on ur hmpk more than ur hm...hehe...the reason i wanted a female hm is becoz i got an old virgin hm male that i got no chance to spawn due to no suitable female...right now budget problem so the hm female maybe next month lah...hopefully my old virgin hm dun KO when i found him a suitable partner later on.

meiteoh thx for the info...really appreciate your findings but somehow i'm not very good with words so i'm still undecided whether it's columnaris or fungus infection...the description is somewhat similiar for both diseases and that really confuses me.

Right now i'll stick more towards fungus infections as previously the female is doing well before my itchy hand dumb her into my "in preperation" spawning tank with lots of duckweed and some water plants(dunno wats da name). I haven't changed the water in that tank for a week or so and it;s full of rotten leaves and other misc stuff (even found some flea lookalike creature) on the duckweeds. Thought of dumping her into the tank infested with mosquito larve so she could clear them up. Seems to be a very bad decision on that part.

For the time being i can only hope for the best and keep on monitoring her...thx for those who have given me info and insights on the godamn disease that's been bugging me ever since i've started the hobby.

Actually I just added 3 drops... haha... testing testing 1st. The water also never change color.

Gerbils don't need too much care and hassle compared to other pets. Their bedding only needs to be changed once in 2 or 3 weeks, thats easier than even a betta smile.gif coz they don't stink like hamsters.

Ohyeah...forgot to tell you. Don't change water too often otherwise you might just create more stress for your fish (the whole "baru adjust to water and then she change the water" thing).

Every four to three days if your tank is small (like it holds only 2 litres of water). Mine holds four litres and I change water once a week.

It also depends on how much you feed your fish coz more food equals more poop and more ammonia.

which is why i mentioned.......

your guppy deaths could be due to many reasons - and changing water 2 times a day could actually be worse instead of being helpful.
QUOTE(goldfries @ Jul 27 2006, 05:59 PM)
another reason for not feeding betta too often would be to reduce 'damage' to water quality.

sorry for having not elaborating. biggrin.gif

btw i bought 3 bettas today. RM 3 only. they look like PK. i'll snap some pics and you guys identify it's PK or HMPK.

LOL.

My betta was priced at RM5, I think. Previous CT I had was at RM8 - better finnage and more hardy compared to Le Bleu (didn't have to use ketapang for Basil). tongue.gif

Are you asking me to guess about your betta or are you asking about mine? hehe.... if yours sure can tahan for weeks. My house no space for 3 feet tank la, takkan want to put on floor. Next week will move my betta to a slightly bigger tank.

Ask you guys ar, yeterday at the fish shop I saw that miracle ketapang leaf product. The staff said I dont have to buy both that and the black water thingy, he said both serve same function and the black water one should be enough adi, unless I have a big tank with filter. Is this true?

Guppies are notorious for being fin nippers...it's wouldn't be wise to mix guppy with betta unless u want to customized your HM into a CT...no idea about tetras though, maybe some bros here could confirm with you

ok - now that's the 1st time i hear people say guppy being fin nippers.

smile.gif well i tried mixing a CT with 3 guppies in a 1 ft tank before - after 5 minutes, 3 guppies lost a portion of their tail. so yeah, evacuation.

general rule is DO NOT put betta with anything with fancy tail ie goldfish, guppy......... bettas have sharp teeth and powerful jaw - guppies don't. guppies won't bother other people. they're the one that get bullied.

my betta is now living with a bunch of Tiger Barbs (ok now these are the notorious nippers) but since he's PK there's nothing to nip at. biggrin.gif

however i've tried putting a veil tail (or was it a CT) with Tiger Barbs - i see those fellas homing in on him man. straight away pull out. biggrin.gif

haha sorry for being misleading...my memory must be failing me coz i tot i've read somewhere about guppies being fin nippers but it's the certain kind of tetras that is known to be fin nippers. Kinda mess up with those 2 there.

Yeah, guppies are about as harmless as fishes get. biggrin.gif
BTW, jaswwp, your shopkeeper is correct, blackwater and ketapang (KTP) leave extracts do the same things: lower pH, reduce stress and promote colour.
