Oh, don't mind me explaning ya laugh.gif
Unlike what most people think, gaming performance depends more on graphic card rather than CPU nod.gif
Since gaming is one of your requirements, that's the reason is why I've recommended the GE60 with GT750M rather than the GP60 with GT740M. The former's GPU is much more powerful than the latter- a GPU found in RM2k notebooks..

What's more, you are running on a laptop with FullHD resolution (1920x1080), that means more pixels for the graphic card to render... This is not something an entry-level GPU excels in (which is why the GT740M is mostly used in notebooks with HD (1366x768) only.. Of course, you can still reduce resolution while you game for smoother performance, but that might beat the purpose of a FullHD Screen nod.gif

On the other hand, you are only using the notebook for normal tasks, which an i5 is already more than enough nod.gif
Some might think getting an i7 will be more "future-proof", but that's not really true too, you won't need something that powerful unless you are into intensive tasks/programs nod.gif
Additionally, i7 processors can get really hot, which will kill off the notebook and battery, especially when you game nod.gif

The GP60 is more suitable for those who uses the notebook for graphic designing, rendering, or those using calculative programs which rely more on the CPU rather than the GPU icon_rolleyes.gif

But don't worry about it la haha, as long as you love your notebook its good enough icon_rolleyes.gif

You are in luck mate brows.gif
These are some of the best devices under promotion at the moment:
But not 11-12" la laugh.gif

10"
Microsoft
Surface Pro, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080;touch) + 64GB SSD@RM1899[680g], 4GB, W8P
Surface Pro, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1920x1080;touch) + 128GB SSD@RM2139[680g], 4GB, W8P

Some shops are giving away alot of freebies/warranty along with your purchase... can try Harvey Norman/ SenQ etc. apart from regular stores
Definitely worth considering, I'd definitely get one if I had the money laugh.gif

The HP I mentioned is 11.6"

The surface pro disk storage is is only 64G and 128G. I need large disk space. Moreover its screen is 10.6". I need it for table talk you know sales presentation.

Any suggestion of other brands with similar features: light and thin, 11 to 12 inch, at least 250G storage, long battery hours and of course touchscreen?

Just curious why HP USA is selling cheaper than here in malaysia? I thought computers are tax exempted here?

top up a little and get this :

Lenovo G500S, i3-3110M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

or get the Dell instead :

Dell Inspiron 15, i3-3217U + AMD HD7670M@RM1399[2.25kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell, Linux; W8SL@RM1599

i would really suggest you to take Dell instead. if you choose ASUS, none of the laptops will fit your budget as it is very limited. anyway, prices in RRP and negotiable.

If compared between the Y410p with MSI's GE60 series, which would be better?

Yeah, I'm aware of the size of that HP laugh.gif Just wanted to share one of the best pick in town haha

I seldom hear people prefer conventional HDD over SSD nowadays haha laugh.gif
You can read about the benefits of SSD a few pages back, I've written it down for another forumer nod.gif

Can consider these:
11.6"
Dell
Inspiron 11 3000, Celeron 2955U + Intel HD + (1366x768; touch)@RM1349[1.43kg]. 2GB, 500GB, W8.1
Inspiron 11 3000, Celeron N2815U + Intel HD + (1366x768; touch)@RM1399[1.43kg]. 4GB, 500GB, W8.1

*extend warranty to 3 years on-site with remaining budget

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E120, i3-2357UM + Intel HD3000@RM1999[1.5kg],W7HP, water resistant keyboard, Colors: Red/Black

*relatively old model, but very popular among companies

The HP you mentioned is pretty good as well, though I would still prefer getting the Dell for better peace of mind.. Budget-line consumer notebooks tend to be not-that-reliable
**Prices in RRP

Hmmm, you guys need to be more specific when you ask this kind of question laugh.gif
Better in what? haha MSI GE60 is probably better if you want to use it as a board to chop vegetables since its larger in size laugh.gif

Anyways, jokes aside... it all depends on what you want - 14" (portability) or 15" (better viewing pleasure)
The GPU in the Y410 is already better than the GE60. And don't forget the GE60 runs on FullHD, so the performance will take a bigger hit if you are gaming on Full HD nod.gif

Acer
V5-473PG-54204G50, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M +(1366x768;touch)@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB,W8 *no OD

Asus
K451LB-WX071H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299, 4GB, 750GB, W8

Lenovo
Ideapad Flex 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT820M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM2299, 4GB (soldered), W8, 2 yrs; colors: black/orange

We don't have much info about Samsung notebooks, so can't recommend at the moment- their brochures are not easy to get. Perhaps you could share some info here if you have? notworthy.gif

Personally I would choose the Inspiron 14 7000, its one of my favourites haha laugh.gif
14"
Dell Inspiron 14 7000, i5-4200U + Intel HD4400 + 32GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2649[1.99kg], 4GB(soldered), W8.1, backlit keyboard, 58Whr, No ODD

**Prices in RRP
Do PM putochip123 if you are interested in it, he's definitely selling cheaper than RM2.5k brows.gif This notebook may not be super thin, but it comes with a great screen, and also the 32GB mSATA, which will help improve computing experiences due to its snappiness icon_rolleyes.gif
But that's just me la haha, in the end the choice is up to you~

A larger screen is better for the elderly nod.gif
So definitely a 15 incher although it'll be bulkier

Can consider these:
15.6"
Dell
Vostro 5560, i3-3120M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1999[2.2kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8.1SL, ODD
Vostro 5560, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT630M@RM2349[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm), W8.1SL, ODD

Inspiron 15 7000, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) + (1366x768; Touch)@RM2899[2.6kg], 6GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W8.1SL, backlit keyboard, 58Whr

*Prices in RRP, use remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years icon_rolleyes.gif

** Go for the Vostro if you want something lighter (but less solid)
** Go for the Inspiron if you want longer battery life, better quality and screen

I think you guys should also mention to the students here if they are looking to get dell laptop they can contact dell chat to order via them & get student rate.

I just ordered Inspiron 14R (linux + i5 + 2years warranty) for RM1925 (student rate). Its a pretty good deal I would say hmm.gif

Oh sorry. I'll try to be more specific next time. I was actually talking about the MSI GE60 Apache series.
Now I'm thinking, is there any laptops within my budget that has the new Nvidia Geforce 800M series? Maybe around RM3.5k
