Hello there. Asking behalf on a friend.

1. Preferred Brand: any brand (but would rather not take Dell)
2. Budget: Around 2k - 2.5k
3. Usage: web browsing, watch movie, Light gaming. Going to Uni.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: around 15"
*
for students, i'd prefer them to take Dell. whenever a case of laptop breakdowns, Dell can repair them on-site to save the hassle to travel to service centers. other brands do have chances of breakdowns too, so your friend's luck plays major role too.
anyway :

Dell
Inspiron 15 5000, i5-4210U + AMD HD R7 M265@RM2149[2.4kg], 8GB, 1TB, Linux, 4-cell, spill-resistant KB, 2 years Pro support; W8.1SL@RM2349

ASUS
K551LN-XX251H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT840M@RM2299, 4GB, 1TB, W8.1

use the remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years. i dont really recommend you to take ASUS due to their poor service but its up to you.
prices in RRP and negotiable.

If a buy DOS or Linux laptop, is it simple to change to W7 or 8? Because I can get windows license key for free.

and where do you recommend to buy laptop from? Lowyat, Lyn garage sales, Challenger those kind of shops or online stores like techhypermart?
*
blink.gif
its very simple bro. just need the installation CD, format drive and you are good to go.
normally i prefer to COD with sellers via LYN garage sales. but if you worry about warranty issues, you can buy from lowyat or resellers. techhypermart is also a good choice for buying laptops.

I've actually asked a few pages back.
Brand : Lenovo
Model : Y510p and Y50

Should I get the Y510p Or is the Y50 worth waiting for.
Not in any rush to get it.
Assuming that I'm using the laptop for uni work, gaming (dota2)

Thanks
*
one sentence for you, if you are in rush to get a laptop, get it ASAP, if not, just wait for Y50.

QUOTE(sethaniel @ May 15 2014, 04:56 AM)
Hey guys, I've finally decided to get the ASUS N550JK after doing some pretty thorough research of my own, mostly from this thread: http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/75010...ion-so-far.html

However, I need to make some final considerations before purchasing it.
One of the selling points of the laptop is the beautiful IPS screen, but I can't seem to confirm if this screen exists for the Malaysian model (N550JK-CN026H), and I honestly don't know how to prove if it does either. I don't really trust most of the guys working at the local computer stores in my area these days since I've met quite a few who didn't actually know what they were talking about  sweat.gif

So my question is, is the IPS screen available for the Malaysian model of N550JK? (N550JK-CN026H)
Also, what about other hardware specifications such as wireless card, etc.?
Anyone here has this specific model or has seen it in stores before? Any advice for me before I make the choice (including other options)?

Thanks in advance! smile.gif
*
to confirm with you, yes, it is an IPS screen. only 1366x768 resolution option comes with TN panel.

for specs, its almost the same as N550JK from other countries. click

yeah but wont affect your photoshop a lot.
since you need a lightweight laptop, this laptop only weighed 1.62kg, which is considered very light for a 14 inch laptop.

if you need a tablet and laptop, Dell XPS 12 is a great substitute.
if you just want an ultrabook, the Dell XPS 13 is for you.

both has the same build quality; combination of aluminium and carbon fibre base which is a very big selling point for both the ultrabook and hybrid. thumbup.gif

I'm asking for advise here

Budget : ~RM1500
Purposes : MS office, browsing, streaming video
Brand : Any (please recommend)
Size / Weight : preferable light weight and less than 14" unless weight is light. Gonna bring it travel a lot for work purposes

After so far scouting i saw few fall under my price range

Asus Transformer T100
Lenovo Flex 10
Microsoft Surface RT

Please advise is there any other alternate choice or which better, or should i just go tablet with keyboard  hmm.gif
*
your only option is ASUS T100 and Lenovo Flex 10. microsoft surface RT is not recommended because it is windows on ARM.

Hi situ, thanx for the suggestion ^^
Last time u stated the price is 2800k rite, is that the normal price because in their Webk page it's slightly higher. 2999k for the lenovo yoga 2. I've never bought a laptop before so I don't know much,
Do they have a student price? And is buying from vendors is trustworthy?
*
if RM2999 is the retail price, you can buy from vendors/resellers as you can negotiate with them for a cheaper price.

normally no student price for non-Apple laptops but i prefer if you buy from reputable vendors like Viewnet, Jayacom and C-Zone. warranty side, you can still claim from Lenovo.

if it is within your budget, definitely a worth buy. thumbup.gif
the specs are pretty decent and getting a FHD at below RM3k is more like impossible. so every penny you put on it is worth it. laugh.gif

Hey guys, need some advice and recommendations from you all.

1. Need a brand with good service support
2. Budget around 4.5k
3. For office and home use, some light photoshop and cad usage, not into gaming
4. Prefer 13 or 14 inch screen, but screen quality must be good, preferably full hd
5. Prefer thin and light models, not more than 1.9kg
6. Comfortable keyboard and touchpad is a must, as the main purpose is for work. Durable structure is important as well cause I'll be travelling with it most of the time.

Considering between the yoga 2 pro and the xps 13, any users of these 2 models can share some experience? Can suggest other models which will fit my criterias as well?

Thanks for the help guys.
*
whoa, that 2 is more like a beast of ultrabooks.
anyway, i will go for Dell XPS 13. laptop was built using carbon fibre and aluminium, make it looks tough and nice to handle.

Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro isnt bad either, and what i like is the screen and 256GB SSD for a 4k price tag.

2. Budget - Below 5k
3. Usage - Mainly for gaming and watching movies!
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - Not sure about this. Would 17.3 better than 15.6? Is it noticeable?
5. Best bang for buck or performance/value!
6. Weight concern

17.3" laptop vs 15.6" laptop is very noticeable bro. it depends on your size liking and of course, larger will be heavier. since you are weight concern, go for 15.6" by any means.
