Preferred brand: any should be fine , but customer service must have good reputation
Budget : <=2k
Size: >=15"

Usage: web browsing, watching movies, torrenting, not looking to play any games on it, an average Graphics card would suffice. Decent battery life. Obviously needs wifi.

Also prefer to have a really slim and thin laptop or in other words , good portability.

Thanks !
*
EDIT : sorry, there is no thin and light laptops for 15 inchers.

i hope you can consider these :

Dell
Vostro 5470, i3-4010U + Intel HD4400@RM1799, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8.1SL, 3-cell

Lenovo
Ideapad Flex 14, i3-4010U + Nvidia 820M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM1799, 4GB (soldered), W8, 2 yrs; color: black

prices in RRP and negotiable.

Thank you very much for replying.

Hmmm I guess there aren't many options now <3k.
The Acer 4820T that I bought last time was around RM2.5k.

Just had a look at this laptop.
It looks amazingly good. Very different from the typical Dell laptops of old.

If it was me, I would definitely buy Asus N56 but the battery life isn't good at all. Below average really.
*
but what you get is the build quality, which might be a good replacement for your Acer 4820T. biggrin.gif

Brand: Any (Was a fan of Asus, but read thru the forum and a lot of complaints there  rclxub.gif )

Budget: >RM1500

Usage: Office, Web Browsing, Video Streaming, Light Gaming.

Size:  10 - 14 inch

P.S: Need a laptop thats lightweight with good battery. Its been a workout walking to class with my current chunky Asus. Been reading thru and doing my own research and so far, I've found nothing that bests the Asus Transformer Book T100TA. But do u think i shud save money a bit n get something like the Lenovo Flex 14 or the G4000s or something else?

Thank you in advance and this thread has been a blessing for me.  notworthy.gif

Hi thanx si much for the info n I've checked out the vostro 5470. Personally I think it's great haha even minus the back light keyboard (I realised it's so hard to find a budget lappy with backlit ><)

But may I ask you, what do you think of hp 440 g1? Is it comparable to the vostro? I heard a lot of good things on vostro 5470 since its a business notebook, I'm just interested the hp one because I bumped into while researching for the vostro.
Sorry for asking too much but thank you.
*
its a cheap business notebook. sweat.gif
its not comparable to Vostro 5470 in terms of performance cuz it lacks a graphics card.

u suggested me with the 2 models of Asus, as for my preferences, i saw my friend getting 1 model called ASUS A550LD-XX077H. is it ok for my uses? or do u mind comparing the asus model u posted with the one my friend bought? because i dont know much about comp specs.
*
your friend's one is a budget laptop. specs wise, the one i suggested is better. only special about your friend's 1 is it had coloured covers, while the one i suggested is black/dark in colour. the one i suggested has better build quality than your friend's.

K451is a 14 inch variant, K551 is 15 inch variant.

And does Asus X552LD has HDMI port?
Might need to go for Lenovo due to the complaints of Asus warranty.

most consumer line laptops come with HDMI port bro.
and btw, take note the Lenovo Flex i listed has its RAM soldered, which means not upgradeable.

for Dell, there is an option for windows 8.
for Lenovo, yes you can. just need the installation kit or you can purchase the installation serial code from auction sites.

I actually saw a new dell which is the inspiron 14 5000 which to me looks good but the battery life is bad. Should I get this laptop or the other two that you recommended? And I don't know if this is off topic but should I buy from the dell online store if I choose a dell?
*
there are no reviews about the laptop yet, how did you know that the battery life is bad? hmm.gif
the Dell seems like a new release. if you are worried, you can ask dell to switch the battery to 4-cell 58Wh battery, which can prolong your battery life.

best to go for online, because you can customize your order and extend warranty.

1. Preferred Brand
Any other than Asus, as I heard+saw claiming warranty need few months, it will be too long for me.

2. Budget
prefer <=3800, but u can recommend up to rm4300, i will add budget if really like

3. Usage
-Desktop replacement, Dota 2, movie, web.
-CPU at least i7-4700
-GPU at least 750m ddr5

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
only 17 inch

5. Other preference:
No optical drive(preferably, if any), mostly will not use on battery so battery life is not a concern.

I was looking at MSI GP70-2PE and GE70-2PE, but the price gap and gpu performance gap is too big, can any1 please recommend something in between?

no Sony Vaio laptops that fit within your budget range. your requirements are too much too.
branding makes no sense in their quality, what important is their warranty service. ASUS's quality is good but it has the worst warranty service ever.
anyway, try consider this :

HP Pavilion 14-N059TX, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099[2.03kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; colors: silver/black
ASUS A450LC-WX037H/WX042H/WX043H, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM2099[2.1kg], 4GB, 750GB, W8; 4-cell; colors: grey/red/white
Dell Inspiron 14 3000, i5-4210U + Nvidia 820M@RM1799[2.2kg], 4GB, 500GB, Linux, 4-cell, spill-resistant KB, 2 years Pro support; W8.1SL@RM1999

prices in RRP and negotiable.

1. Preferred Brand - whichever reliable and appropriate
2. Budget - <2k, windows is not necessary, FREEDOS will do =)
3. Usage - for student usage, as least last for 4 years la =D, light gaming la
4. Preferred laptop/screen size - normal 14" will do i think?

refer to the Dell above. smile.gif
RM1799 is the one that comes with Linux, or you can say its almost the same as DOS.
do extend the warranty to 3 years for maximum warranty support.
