1. Preferred Brand: Prefer to avoid Alienware (too blingy and overpriced) and Asus (sellouts) but am open to recommendations if they are better than other comparable brands in the same price range.
2. Budget: Prefer between 3k-4k but willing to go all the way up to 5k if it makes a difference.
3. Usage: Mostly gaming but would use to watch media too. Might be going overseas for 1.5 years and need portable entertainment. Already have a company issued laptop for work purposes.
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15"-17"

Thanks for the info. thumbup.gif

Ugh, it really pains me to see that I have to fork out so much more for a PC that is even less powerful than my current desktop when it comes to gaming. The GTX860M isn't even as good as my GTX760 and I paid <RM800 for that. sweat.gif

Ah well, I can't do without PC gaming for 1.5 years and I guess the cost of the laptop can easily be recovered from the extra money I'll get for going overseas.

Do you happen to know if the Illegears or MSI laptops have that...err...what do you call it...that function to switch off the gaming GPU and utilize a separate lower power GPU instead for surfing.
*
if choose to walk the fate of gaming laptops, the price is you need to consider about. laugh.gif
some even willing to pay more than RM10k just because that person wants to achieve the best mobile gaming performance.

if you are talking about power saving features, let Nvidia Optimus to do the job. all these laptop are built-in with Nvidia Optimus, which will turn off GPU when not in use.

Why is the screen res factor more costly than the Gig or Terra size factor?
*
screen's cost and life is much more than hard disk.
FYI, 1600x900 = 1366x768 on 14"/15", means everything you look will be pixelated.

As much others complain, the key board is too thin, when typing it goes below the casing and made from rubber. Wish it made from hard plastic. Batt is only around 5 hours (38Whr) of polymer battery.

keyboard is one of the unbreakable hardware on a laptop unless it has defects. nod.gif

*
i would personally prerfer MSI GP60 because of the specs offered. as for durability, im not so sure about it because no matter how you care or dont care for your laptop, it will eventually wear out and die at one day.

2. Budget = Under 2k
3. Usage = Common use like watch YouTube in HD, no games
4. Preferred size = 14" or under

Others:
- Easy access to fan so I can clean it often, comparatively easier to X brand.
- Intel Integrated graphic, reduce GPU issue later on. The "reflow" didn't work and my 4 yr old HP died which was more than enough for what im using it for.
- Reliable: 5 years or longer if possible

Thx a zillion

i dont think consumer line laptops have user hardware access ease. also, cant guarantee those laptops will last 5 years or longer. anyway :
