Im planning on getting this platform :

X2 AM2 3800+
Biostar Tforce550
1GB Corsair Value Select DDR2-667 x2
XFX 7900GT

Should I get the DFI Ultra-II? What's its price?

Anyone use 7900GT here? I see lots of 7600GT. I want to play FEAR and Oblivion at 1280x1024res, thought I needed the extra muscle and also survive two years w/o becoming obsolete (cannot run at high settings). With such a card, will 2gb of ram make a difference over 1gb?

How far are prices expected to drop in PC Fair anyway, at least for my specs?

Hi guys, pls give me your opinion on the following specs:

Athlon 64 bit X2 3800+ dualcore (AM2)
Asus M2NPV-VM
Mushkin PC667 DDR2 512MB x2

Is this m/b a good choice? If not, any recommendations? I don't play much games, but I think right now AMD dualcore (AM2) seems to be a practical choice (moneywise & qualitywise)! smile.gif
Thanks!

I don't think there's any price drop for RAM or CPU during PC Fair... for other stuffs, maybe.

Anyway... DFI UltraII-M2.... fantasy_kenny is selling them at RM435. Dunno about shops.

Your choice is quite okay... but I would rather get Kingston or Corsair based DDR2 instead of Mushkin because the price is not that attractive.... unless you're talking about Mushkin XP-series

Thanks, yep, Corsair is a reliable brand. So is Corsair DDR2-667 better than Kingston DDR2-667?

After OC'ing a mobo, what software can I use to stress-test the platform for stability? I'd like to know the diagnostic utilities available to make sure the OC'ed platform can tahan the rigours and pushes the system in an automated (vs manually like playing games) since I dont hav all day to stare at the PC.

Thinking of buying AM2 here..my pc right now is still sempron 2400+ socket A. lol!

I guess it is time. Just to get more opinion after i research this few hardware. Im not an extreme OCer, but i do OC most of the time. I might buy during PC Fair or end of this month.

Here is what in my mind + current price:

- AM2 Athlon 64Bit 3800+ RM560
- Infinity NF UltraII-M2/G RM435 or Abit KN9-SLI RM560
- Corsair PC6400 DDR2 1GB (2 x 512MB) (5-5-5-12) [XMS2] RM600 or
Patriot PC6400 DDR2 1GB (2x512MB) (4-4-4-12) [Extreme Performance] RM600 or
GSkill PC6400 DDR2 1GB (2x512MB) (4-4-4-12) RM580 or
Team Xtreem PC6400 DDR2 1GB (2x512MB) (4-4-4-10) RM590

The rest of the component, i will determine it later.

Have fun.

p.s wrong type..as below..lol!
