i too suggest u do a factory reset. the process will be faster than repairing in the pc companion. but u do need to backup and restore back all your data and apps la.

again, i would say it is quite common for some apps or settings to cause some instability or incompatibility after a major update. any smartphone may have this problem and many sifu will also recommend to do a factory reset if you face any problem after major update.

i myself face the problem of cannot change the lockscreen wallpaper. and after reset it's ok. and surprisingly my ringtone volume also got louder too. thus far no problem with kitkat after factory reset.

Anyone got issues on notification for sms not appearing on notification bar after upgrading to KK?

Mine no notifications for sms on the notification bar.

I checked settings>app>All>messaging and show notification is enabled.

I also did not use hangout for sms.

Any idea what is wrong?

i have had no issues or problems so far with my Z1 before or after the kit kat update. only minor annoyance of the softer audio ringtone and the auto speakerphone when answering call.

I didn't lose root when I did a factory reset. From what I know, if you flashed a stock ROM, you will lose root. If you flashed a pre-rooted ROM then you get to keep root.

just connect your phone to pc and run pc companion. it should be able to detect the 4.4 update

Upgraded mine from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 with the pre-rooted stock 4.4 firmware from nut, so far so good (except for the vibrator which some times sounds weird)

and tried this mod that enable Pen mode similar to ZU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2652762
not bad.

now waiting for a complete workable Z2 camera mod for Z1...

I don't get it, what did you guys mean? You mean you can't unlock your phone into camera mode by holding down the shutter button?

that is a mod to wake the screen by tapping the focus button

its a simple mod by just adding one line to a file in the system

assumed focus button is a volume rocker,
why using this button instead power button?

the power button looks more fragile than the focus button i presume
not sure if the metallic paint would fade after extensive usage
