Anyone with a GTX980/970 or a 6GB VRAM card played 'Shadow of Mordor' with HD Texture Pack + Ultra Textures turned on?  sweat.gif

I tried it on my 'now' merely mortal GTX680 2G, and it is a slide-show fest at 1080p about 40-50% of the time.

Well, I've read how some gamers are freaking out and calling it BS without actually downloading the HD Texture Pack in the first place since it recommends 6GB VRAM for Ultra.

That said, they have discovered that, 'Shadow of Mordor' will use at most 3.7Gb of VRAM (at 1080p) in Ultra.

I am waiting patiently for the rumored 8GB GTX980... no idea if it will ever benefit a mere 1920x1080 display or that my i7-870 (OC'd to 4Ghz) will bottleneck.

Well its about 50-60fps at 1440p 1202mhz my norm clock at defaul voltage 1.065v.

as for 8gb gtx980. I dont think its gonna happen just as gtx980ti.

Its most probably will be a full maxwell feature
same speculation ppl thought 780ti was going to come out with a 6gb but then ended up with a titan black and a 780 6gb.

as for the 4gb GTX980 at 1080p. nah tested that also on a benchrig that i am doing atm. its hits the limit and fps backs down. Things gets worse on the 2nd map. Even a friend who has a insane rig of a 5960x with 3x980 ( he had 3 titan black before with 4960x).. has the same issue. So again all this ppl who are saying its fine etc i wonder do they even play the game or just benchmark and tried a little only at the 1st map.

but this game seriously needs more fps atleast for me. those dips at fighting 50-100 urukai when it hits the 6gb limit will drop to 40fps throwing off my timing sometimes.

So really hoping for a sli fix soon to hit atleast 100fps.

Finally got my 970 G1 Gaming. Nice card, manage to get 1500MHz without extra voltage. Don't really want to push further though as I'm already CPU limited in some games due to my old i7 930 CPU
not good combo.

upgrade your CPU soon.

my Core i5 760 on stock bottlenecks even the AMD R9 280X on Full HD. I had to OC it to some 3.2ghz onwards just to barely close the gap (a frame or 2).

Ok wat. I've played the game till the final mission and left it as it is because I had to go away for work.

Running it on ultra on a R9 290x with a little bit of OC seems to be enough for me. Tolerable enough for me not to install both my GTX 980s and just continue playing.

well, its not the first time heavy cards sag inside rigs

try alleviate the sag by making a makeshift lift to hold the card in place properly?

im on 3GB 780, mostly played on High. with Ultra, i CAN CTD due to lack of VRAM. the times when it didnt CTD, FPS fluctuate like roller coaster

def not recommended unless 4GB or more

Not sure is it because of MSI skipping on the back plate. So far my Strix 970 is holding nicely.

my friend with ASUS GTX670 with backplate still has a slight sag

sag cant be fully countered i guess

i read a review where backplate doesnt do anything to sag but it helps the PCB from flexing only

yeah, the clock speed matters.

the new generation like Sandy / Ivy / Haswell series are a lot faster, when it comes to base and TB speed.

The drops are into the low 50s from a locked 60. I don't see how that's a huge issue?
That said, I still find it weird that the game has a hardcap of 100fps.

No bending at all. Are you using 2 screws to hold the card in place?

I mean, these are several MSI 970s and they don't sag:

Actually the one in the H440 case looks like its sagging a bit. Or maybe my eyes playing tricks on me.

it's sagging. you can see how the front bends downwards, it's inevitable as the power cables apply some force when arranged to come from the bottom.

I think there's nothing much you can do with the sagging issue. I old card 460 was much smaller and lighter then current gen card and it too sag.

well i guess he have a good excuse for an upgrade now laugh.gif

i wanted to upgrade as well, but in terms of gaming perf, my i5 2500 is still nowhere near outdated. so cant really justify the splurge

reconvision as for the sag topic, you really cant do much afaik.

good news is, your GPU PCB doesnt flex due to backplate

bad news is, your GPU will forever senget laugh.gif

unless you feel like buying this

ok found out the problem. It was not my pcb which sag is actually the metal tat attach to the slot is not 90° perpendicular to my pcb. And i think i seat the gpu wrongly too. Which finally turnout my gpu is not sag. But with weight n the power cable it do sag a bit compare to before is way better now.

Well, depends on how you attach the pcie 6/8 pin connectors, if you route it from the PSU to the back of the motherboard tray, and make it come out to the front again from the top of the GPU rather than the bottom, using some cable ties behind the m/b tray you can creatively use those power connectors to hold/pull the gpu up from sagging.

cards with back-plate tend to fare better.

yes, I have an RV05 - super annoying to setup but the concept is superb.
