I'm the same, serious riding I'll still use a roadbike.  Foldies, just ride for fun or to somewhere that I can bring the bike with me. I will always advise to stay away from cheap foldies as they ride terrible and you won't want to ride it.

for example...

So how much is this bike?

Free....... this lady gave it to me, she rode it twice.  After I got it, went for a ride. what absolute rubbish!!  Goes to show if you buy cheap it is actually expensive as you won't ride it! hahaha

Goes to say, when you have tasted a velfire, exora is rubbish. But u get what u pay for lah.... For riding around taman and some short distance healthy activities with children, cheap foldies suffice.

Hi,
sorry when you say it is 'absolute rubbish', what does it mean? bike doesn't move, gear not engaged, bike going sideways? etc. Just want to know some facts.

Oh....I didn't mean to hurt anyone, but just to warn people about buying cheap bikes that you end up not using as they are not enjoyable to ride. Sorry!

This bike that I have, for example, the seatpost is near maximum, which means if you are taller than 1.7, sorry lah.... The folding mechanism is real scary and it will end up as a pile of rust one day. Every part of the bike except the wheels have some rust spots on it even though it is near new. Weight? don't ask....real heavy! Doesn't fold well, heavy, doesn't ride well......is there a point to it?

The riding position is all wrong, and cannot be adjusted. The gearing is way too low, so riding slowly ok, forget going faster. So heavy, crashes over bumps, etc, gear changes sloppy.

Comparing to the dahon Speed D7, this bike's riding position is easily adjustable, flows nicely, magnets locks securely, Neos rear deraillieur, although some people say is rubbish, shifts beautifully on my abused bike. Ride is comfortable and gearing is fine as is and you can easily do distances on it, which is quite comparable to the Brompton.

Hehe! Just joking, no offense taken. tongue.gif
Yup, one has to be very careful if wanted to buy cheap bike.
That's why I headed over to China forum and survey, their attitude is not better than American these day. They will refund and condemn whatever they find not worthy.

You see, I buy the bike to fetch my toddler around, safe clips, sturdy joints, is a MUST!
So to those looking for dirt cheap bike, you have to open your eyes wide. shocking.gif
If budget permitted, go for better branding out there.

They still like Dahon nonetheless. laugh.gif

Currently,

Few models which are capable of modifying, value of money spent according to them,
Langtu TR016, TR026, Oyama M300

Well ermmm mid-range, not much, its either you buy the lowest end one or highest end one,
Langtu KY028

In the higher end range,
Oyama M990, CR16

Dahon, popular ones in China forum,
P8, SP8, HAT060 BYA412

For the enthusiast,
Rhine or they call it 上海鸟车, their very own Birdy. laugh.gif

Those smaller manufacturer, not so well known brand, well, avoid it.
If you do not know, quite a lot of them use Birdy. Bloody rich! flex.gif
I don't check too much on Dahon, as we have it here also in Malaysia.
Normally, lowest end one sure come with junk 6s RD, like what I'm doing, change'em!
Mid-range one, 7s dual chainring, still freewheel here.
High end one, 8s and above, cassette!
Buy according to budget and needs. Happy shopping! icon_rolleyes.gif

Thank you Shengz for the list (from China)?
What about brands found in local bicycle shops?
Tern and Dahon are popular brands.
Brompton and Birdy are more expensive brands.
What about brands like Trinx, XDS, GTA, Java, and others?
Are these brands worth looking at?

Ok, to make it short,
Trinx is 千里达
XDS is 喜德盛
Java is 佳沃

GTA and others like TRS most probably they source the frame from China and build their own brand.
Erm... To make it shorter and shorter,
Don't know why, but seldom see them mention XDS and Trinx in forum for foldies. XDS appears in MTB thread more. hmm.gif
Java, the Java fit 8s/16s buyable! But still, the appearance in China bike forum still very less. unsure.gif

EDIT: Shortest, they are all China brands! Just that they appear less, less info hence not in the list. laugh.gif notworthy.gif

Thank you Shengz and H2D.
I am looking to buy a foldie. Not sure which brand to buy.
I am new in this cycling.
I have tested the Dahon and GTA. Sad to say I don't feel any difference between the 2.
Yah, please recommend some shops for me to visit.

agree with H2D.. XDS 660 is having the same spec as Java fit as far as i remember... and it is few hundreds cheaper than java. I haven't ride on them to know the differences but from spec n price wise.. its worth to consider the xds..
