Hi guys, I find folding bikes a little weird with their small wheels and funny frame design, until I found this:
http://www.electroboard.biz/rangerx.htm
Normal price is supposed to be RM6k+ but sometimes I see in the papers they have 70% discount and they go for RM1900.00.
I used to be a mountain biker but I am new to folding bike stuffs. So just wanna ask if this is a good bike and if anyone has the specs of the bike.
Is this really selling for rM1900 from RM6K+ and is this price worth it?

Thanks in advance guys!

i am a newbie on biking...i dont even own a bike when i am young...and i recently got my first bike...

Actually i have the same feeling like you when looking at a foldable bike..
but after some reviews and repeatedly checking... i am in love with it...especially on the mechanism and the practicality of able to move it around~~

The frame however, depends on the idea and technology involved...is an engineering masterpiece~~where they can make such small frame rigid and so much fun to ride~~~

i mean if u are into serious biking then forget about the ride for fun little bike...not to say all foldables cannot run fast~~

but if you would were to venture into a a fast foldie....for the same money...you probably able to get yourself a better road / mountain bike with a lot of specs...i did some research on the pricing vs the specs~~

Thanks for the feedback. Just as I thought, it is too good to be true that the price can be slashed from 6k to 2k.
But are you sure the bike retails for only RMB500. That is like only RM250. You mean just the frame or the entire bike?
I believe this kind of frame rolls out by the tens of thousands from the same factory in China to be rebranded by the respective companies. There are Hummer, Land Rover, and Montague, to speak of a few.
http://www.militarybikes.com/military.html
This kind of design was initially designed for military use, or so it seems...

Nowadays a full suspension MTB with good specs and frame will set you back at least RM5k. RM3k would probably get you a hardtail with good specs. RM2k wouldn't get you very far biggrin.gif
But I like the novelty of the bike being able to fold and it is much easier to store and lug around. Plus I kinda like this design.

yes RMB 500 but not the same spec as the rangerx la... biggrin.gif

the military thing mebe kinda like marketing stuff.... tongue.gif

actually the folding joint is important, the normal separate on the toptube
might not be that solid for a MTB size bike,

montague type is better than those.

easier to store yes, lug around, mebe...

not many type of full size foldies, another solid joint is the dahon lock jaw,

look for dahon cadenza,
and changebike frm taiwan...

cadenza p18, this is old discontinued model not sold in msia

Well,it really depends if the quality of the Montague is so great over the Hummer that it justifies the price difference of being 4x higher.
Unless the frame of the Hummer turns out to be rickety, then I gues a frame is just a frame and for the price difference, the amount can be used to upgrade to much better components on the Hummer.
I believe we are paying more for the brand rather than the difference in quality for the Montague. Sure it might be better in quality, but is it that much better?

importantly is the materials used to construct it.

I think someone on this forum had the Hummer, and the connector post bends as the material used is not as durable.

Generally, i reckon the price difference means:
- better parts , or at least better machined
- non hollow parts (where it is not meant to be hollow)
- lighter bike that you are more likely to use vs a hulking heavyweight

just my two cents worth.
tbh, i was eyeing the hummer too as im just a very casual cyclist (round the condo grounds haha) smile.gif

Yup, the design and materials used do make a difference but I don't think any foldie can withstand the rigours of hardcore mountain biking. The folding joint will always be the weak point.
I am not thinking of any hardcore MTB action. Maybe just some mild ones on dirt trails. But the reason I want a foldie is because it is convenient to chuck into the car and bring it to the park to cycle with the family biggrin.gif

Well I ride a China Hummer. Got it for 850 bucks

Although is china fake, some say the difference in material is that original Montague is using 7005 aluminium which is stronger and lighter, while china Hummers are using 6061 aluminium with maybe less sophisticated welding methods. Other than this, some other differences i can notice is
- Original Montague uses CLIX quick release, can operate with one hand, china Hummer uses regular 9mm QR
- Some parts are covered and sealed off in original Montague so water kenot masuk, same part in china Hummer is exposed (see comparisons here : http://www.zhuangbei2012.com/survival_equi...e-montague.html
- Original Montague supports V n disc brakes I think, China Hummer only disc brakes.

Other than this, I don't see much difference. The specs for the other components for Montague u can find online, for my China Hummer I've noticed the following:
- Saddle, fork, handler bar, seat post, wheels i dunno what brand, can't locate.
- Cassette and RD, shifter + brake lever is Shimano Tourney
- Brakes itself are of Repute, some china brand
- Front crankset I think is Sunwheel or something
- FD is Microshift.

What I like about the Montague/Hummer design is it doesn't break the top tube in half. I can say it's good enough for most trails in Msia (but maybe not downhill). I've fallen off the bike a few times and tried stupid stunts also still ok LOL.

Recently upgraded some components and rides even better now.

For the Ranger ... i find that a big load of BS LOL if it's 6k original price it had better come with at least SLX groupset and Rockshox fork!
