guys newbie here with android tv.

wanted to ask, say for example device like 1OTT, those channels that they claim they have. we can always download the app/apk from Google Play store? does this apply to all android boxes out there?

if yes, can i DIY it with a Xiaomi Mi Box Mini?

If I recall, apps like that are tied to a hardware ID & can't be used on another hardware without a subscription or transfer. You can ask from the sellers of the service for more precise answers or "borrow" the apk off someone who already uses it. I know CloudTV ties a subscription to a particular hardware ID which can be transferred across devices or the same device in case of a format which usually generates a new ID.

to my knowledge there r at least 3 types of apks for androids:

1. proprietory - will only work on that brand/model; include legit movie/tv packages that manufacturer paid license.

2. apps found in playstore - some payable, some free; common utility apps found here.

3. other apps not found in playstore, get from website or other users - this is where some the best apps are!


whether an app that works on one device can work on another may depend on the specs and memory of the device - there is no guarantee.

Hi I would like to seek for some help here.. ive purchased the android tv box 2 months back .. my main intention is to watch astro ..

I got it frm a person which I paid rm250 for the device n need to pay rm300 yearly fr the subscription .. am using unifi dunno whats the mbps but am paying rm150 monthly which is more then 2mbps.. thts all I know cuz thts the min req needed to play the android box..

Hence now I always get service interuption like when watching the astro channel half way it will hang and then go bck to the menu which u need to press the channel to view again.. and sometimes when u press to enter the channel its jz the loading screen and nothing more..

I needed to know if this is the hardware or the tv network prob.. I used the same box run youtube and it works perfectly fine..
and is there any way tht can solve this cuz I dun wanna waste my rm550 jz like tht.. prvsly was using hypptv..

you shud hv asked this question before u buy the box!
becos all good apks can be pre-installed by seller, with continuous updates and support.
but if u can't get that from yr seller, it is difficult.
specifically about chinese stuff, tvb n other hk/canto stuff is hard to get unless u subscribe/pay for iptv.
mandarin and english stuff, plenty.

a last tip - try to check if any of yr friends or neighbors are using androids.
u can copy their apks and try them. some may not work on diff brands/models but the generic apks will.

astro is astro, do you know what u paid for is legal or not?
if illegal pirate iptv, no one can help you other than the person u paid.

legitimate apps like hypptv everywhere, astro-on-the-go, kodi/xbmc, youtube, etc. - lots of people can comment/help.

@RM150 a mth, sounds like VIP 5Mbps. So YouTube 720p should stream buffer free. As for your RM550 box with a RM300 per year subscription. Seems like you bought one of the numerous android boxes up for sale that come with pre-installed "funny" IPTV package. At that price point, you are definitely not being serviced by Astro Malaysia (unless its Astro On-The-Go) but other questionable providers, exactly what you paid for. Which is, service as is and when possible. So chalk it up to experience and configure your box to the best of its abilities and your requirements. See AVFAN's post as well.

can u guys recommend me normal player that can play mkv files .. want to watch downloaded movies but all in mkv format .. as long can play mkv files etc and of course can support thumb drive .. android or other apps is optional .. budget around 150 .. ayam poor now

you will not get a decent android box for that price.

but possibly can get a low end media player - one that does playback only (mkv included), no dwnlding, no or very basic connection to internet.

visit the it stores - u will see a variety of all kinds of players.

i bought one low end china made one 2 yrs ago for rm150 or so, worked fine. still working today.

but these brands n models, they come n go, so u need to check the latest at the stores.

but there is one brand i advise u to stay away from - KWORLD. this one is bad in my exp.

Since you only want to play mkv, at that price, just buy a 2nd hand media player will do (3 yr old model also can).

hi, not sure if this has been brought up before,

i'm using a amlogic s805 chipset android box. I found that the video stutters when playing those high resolution RMVB files. anyone can recommend good player or android box that can handle high res rmvb files
