QUOTE(kyuen7 @ Mar 28 2014, 03:48 PM) Some details on the movie (7th episode). I wish Hollywood would make a Gundam movie like transformers. I think it'll be a hit and imagine all the revenue they will get from the merchandises.. Done already. It was an epic failure. No more pleaseTo me TF also considered as failure especially after the 3rd movie |

QUOTE(kyuen7 @ Mar 28 2014, 03:48 PM) Some details on the movie (7th episode). I wish Hollywood would make a Gundam movie like transformers. I think it'll be a hit and imagine all the revenue they will get from the merchandises.. Gundam doesnt translate well into movies (well the same can be said of all type of series in general). U cant compress long running series into 2-3 hour format and expect it to be good, especially when the said series hinges upon various characters each with various motive all set within an intricate plot of warfare, politics, betrayal, etc. The premise it too long and too complex, requiring tons of hours to set up the background of the world to even begin to make sense. Sure there r movies out there that has such premises but not all at once and each scope is not as wide.Let me give u an example, Saving Private Ryan is set in WW2, the movie is great because it focuses about a particular scenario/battlefield and straight forward plot with a relatively small set of characters. Its doenst need to set up the world because its set in the real world, everybody knows of WW2 so no explanation needed and could straight jump into the middle of the war without confusing the audience. Within that 2-3 hour movie timeframe much of the plot will be resolved and we get a satisfying ending. It doesnt tell the entire war itself from the invasion of Poland to Battle of Berlin because its too long and too complex involving too many individuals, too many battlefields in between, trying to fit that in 2-3 hours will turn it a convoluted mess of stinking dog poo. Even Unicorn rely upon viewers familiarity with OYW, Zeta, ZZ, and CCA to establish the world and make sense of the plot, and even then its 7 hours long when its all said and done. Oh and merchandising? Take transformers as an example, transformers rely upon existing fanbase to be successful. T2 and T3 is horrendous but it makes money because of the name. As a movie on its own, remove the name transformers and how well do u think the merchandise will sell? Gundam in America has close to 0 presence, mayb 90s and early 00s teens would know of gundam wing but thats it. I bet 70% of them dont even know gundam has multiple universes other then wing that are unrelated to one another. So how are u gonna merchandise something that has close to no existing fanbase? You have to 1st make a good movie to ease ppl into the franchise. How are u gonna make a good Gundam movie? U cant for the reason above unless u mangled it to such an extend that it turn into ur typical action CGI fest without intricate plot and characters that is a signature of Gundam show. Remove that and u have a show with Gundam in name but its essence will be butchered beyond recognition. No Gundam fans will ever want that. TLDR, no it cant be done nor will u want it to be done. No one, not even Martin Scorsese can make such movie and turn out good. No thanks. Sure there r movies out there that has such premises but not all at once and each scope is not as wide. You have a point. Merchandising , Star Wars did not have an existing fanbase . Few series into one, well I'm thinking lord of the rings which had 3 thick books and what about Harry potter. Star Trek ...actually now that I think of it, many series were turned to movies. Star Trek is not that bad right? Point is, it doesn't necessarily have to be one movie. It doesn't really need to follow the exact plot like the marvel and dc movies. Hollywood has bigger budgets for cgi hence you get to see these things we build in action other than an anime. I guess I'm not a purist and I can understand why... Like having a nirvana song on hitz fm... Deemed uncool and mainstream. But me , yeah I'd like to see some talent of a director to take up this challenge. Of course Martin Scorsese won't do it... He is just not that type of director. Just my opinion... Nothing moreLet me give u an example, Saving Private Ryan is set in WW2, the movie is great because it focuses about a particular scenario/battlefield and straight forward plot with a relatively small set of characters. To me holywood should just focus on their own franchise. They just can't seem to make a good product from anime/cartoon related series (take DC for example, batman was good because of the storyline you can play with but superman & green lantern you just can't because of the background story). I guess there are things that should just be left alone
Anyway this is getting off topic. Better discussed it in the anime thread Back to gunpla people!! |
